@1goldstar100 ALWEG monorail company offered to build Los Angeles a monorail system for FREE in 1963 and LA said "No thanks, we prefer diesel spewing buses on overcrowded streets."
How much does a Monorail costs to expand it? you would think that WDW would have expand it to the other parks by now (disney Studios, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, and the Water Parks)
@21Laser - I would have classified the Wuppertal as an underhung railway system rather than a true monorail. It actually has rails either side of the coach hangers.
The Disney World and Las Vegas trains are Bombardier, most of the other monorails shown were made by Hitachi. Not sure about the Australian and New Jersey systems.
Most monorails, including all the examples shown in the video, roll on tires. You should check out the Technical page at the monorail society web site. ( Link is in the video description )
the regular Monorail has a Wheels that stabilize it, the Maglev can be a flat madnetic railway or a Monorail tracks with Magnets that stablelize instead of wheels like the other Monorail, for example Shanghi China has a Maglev works like a monorail accept it runs on Magnets so Shanghi has the world fastest Monorail in th world.
@melbourneopera The difference between a maglev and a traditional monorail is that a traditional monorail still uses wheels and tires to guide and move the train, where as a maglev uses a magnetic levitation system and a linear induction motor system to move and guide the train.
Uhhh.... no. Only from The airport to downtown Seattle. In 2016 it'll reach the UW. But it won't reach Tacoma for a long time. Say 40 years from now it might.
There was a fire on one train. The guests go through the roof hatch and move to safety. They were assisted down by fire and security personnel. It has only happened once in all the years of monorail operation that, today, it is more a safety excercise than a real time emergency.
Monorail operations are fabulous and one of the safest modes of transport today.
I used to work in Monorail operations at WDW. I would love to see more monorails. They are so much more beautiful than the alternative mass transit systems and brining a station anywhere in the urban environment will be a catalyst for amazing development. Too bad this mentality of requiring demand BEFORE building a project is the political ideology that many have. Transportation is the exact opposite. People appreciate it once they see how good it is.
@krozareq I always wanted to be a Disney Monorail operator!!! So funny such a brilliant idea is used in an amusement park!! Brilliant post too, I Totally agree with you!
Bittersweet memories... I remember the ETC before the SMP...
Who'd a thought that all that grassroots effort supporting monorail---vanished---in thin air. And to think, the recall vote prior to that was overturned ~2:1.
@ToeMas123 : i notices America is really lagging in public transport. Australia & other countrys have been placing public transport in front of personal transport
Most of the footage was provided by the Monorail Society to the SMP. But sense I wasn't involved with the production of this video, I can't say for sure.
i think they should build the monorail in Los Angeles to re leave traffic!

Dear All,
I have some questions about psychology:
(1) Why do we love space architecture?
(2) Why do we like to travel by space-age transportation system?
(3) Will travelling be more exciting if future vehicles are floating in the air? and Why?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

What is the difference of monorail and maglev? look like they all use the same idea from Magnetism..

monorail is simply a train that runs on one rail rather than two.
the maglev is the train that floats above the track using magnetism.

and maglev dont have a motor itself

They just opened a light rail line from downtown south to Tukwila, ultimately going to the airport by the end of this year.
An extension to the University of Washington will be complete by 2016 and ultimately it will from Everett all the way to Tacoma.
