Sacramento, Ca. This one, or family has been across the street from my house doin' this since i moved in 6 & 1/2 years ago!! I hardly even notice anymore. It's practically ALL DAY.
Sounds like you all that can't sleep need to get a "white noise" machine or just a regular old box fan will do. Put it on high and you won't hear this beautiful creature at night. I have one in my front yard right now in a Magnolia tree. The scent of the tree and his songs are Heavenly tonight here in Massachusetts.
Ha! This is our state bird (Mississippi). I have some Holly plants outside of my bedroom window and they nest in there every year. They can get pretty lively at times during the night. lol. I bought a box fan to drown it out and I actually sleep better.
you pussys if a bird doesnt let you sleep ...well move to onother place you have already taken their habitant and now you complain about a beatifull sound that some of uss wish to have in our yard ...
Love the songs, but hate the chase they give you if you are near their babies! Watch your heads, they peck!!! Missed some harvesting in the garden due to a low nest in our hedges!
How to kill a mockingbird? I'm too terrible a shot to catch something so small with my .22...
Do they fear fire? Maybe if I set all the trees on fire they will leave. There are a lot of trees though, so I may have to set the entire forest behind the house on fire.
I live in north California and these fucking birds chirp all night in front of my building, start at midnight and DO NOT let up until 9AM. Their songs suck too, it's just four repeating notes OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I have work to go to stupid bird, aren't you aware of circadian rhythms!?
I think I saw one of these this afternoon! He was perched at the top of our pine tree, just singing his little heart out. It was strange because I've never seen a mockingbird outside of the marshes before.
I threw a shoe at the one outside my window last night. Very enjoyable during the daylight. Not so much fun for three hours straight at night. Especially the car alarm noises he makes!
@herbiethelk It sounds familiar to me, LOKL! When I hear them singing in the middle of the night they make me smile and think they are horny! Ah, ha ha ha ha!
Should we suppose they sing for finding a mate or they may sing for any other reason?
We had three in a bush that hatched a few days ago. One of them can't fly...the mother bird keeps bringing it food. I doubt if this bird can survive like this.
Enjoy God's gracious creature who can sing over 30 songs. He is divine! What would you rather have 1000s of swooping pigeons who create a reeking mess in your yard. Get real people, the bird is innocent, but some of your thoughts of disliking it aren't. I also like the Bushtit and Cedar Waxwing.
There're a couple of pairs of Mockingbirds nesting in my yard this spring! I love to hear them, even sing late at night. I just shot some footage of Cedar Waxwings, I'll have the vid posted soon.
Mockingbirds are bastards lol! They are always swooping at us and the cats near my work usually when they got babies...but 3 different times in two years babies have fallen out of the nest and can fly just a lil...I caught them and called the animal people and they took them...I knew the cats would kill em if I didn't...Hopefully it will be remembered on judgement day...
(wildstar 1 & nodlon20) Mocking birds range north to the southern tip of Maine. So they are in Mass. Probably not a lot like there is down here in Albany, Ga. They like areas that are open, not a forest. They have been know to have 25 to 30 different songs in their repertory. Mocking birds are my favorite song bird.
This is a beautiful sounding bird. Its also the Texas State bird too. I remember as a kid raiseing a mockingbird. We had it as a pet for like 4 years before it got sick and died. They are also talk if you have time to teach them. But be careful in Texas its really illegal to keep them as a pet.
Wow! I had no idea they could mimic the human language.
How cool. We have lots of them here too. I have some better video coming soon of the mockingbirds. Same in Mississippi, illegal to have them as pets, think you need a permit here to keep one.
Thank you so much for the mockingbird song!! I live in Massachusetts right now, but I told my husband I'm ready to go back to Georgia. They don't have mockingbrds up here! Is there any way you could get the song of a Whippoorwill??

I'd have nightmares about this bird.. but it would have to let me sleep first! ><
