Detox was due in 2002 as a "hip-hop musical" type of concept.

I was a Dre fan, too, way before the other two were even singing. This album will probably suck even more. So why push the release date, and let people forget about you? Probably because he's only got 5-6 songs done, which will already be outdated when this poppes out. Sorry to spoil your hopes for good songs.

Make beats and hits but no actual depth to his records. If you dont know the difference between emcees and rappers, go look it up or learn from KRS-One. No it's not. Constantly pushing something back is bad marketing if the target market you're trying to get to begins to resent you and the product you're selling. There's anticipation then there's irritation. I can tell you now that Dr.Dre would've had more success releasing Detox 4 years ago than he would have today. He'll still sell an assload though.

We're talking about it because Detox itself is still around. But people DO know it and the song he put out ended up getting horrible criticisms. Under Pressure sounds unbelievably bad, so now there's reason to believe he's pushing it back even further since no one liked his first single.
