  • even better, this laptop is going for $539 on newegg

  • lenovo got this on sale for under $700

  • This was great! Thanks!

  • I'm looking at getting a T420, but now that I viewed this video, to me it seems like as if the Lenovo Edge Build Quality seems a lot more solid compared to the T420. Am I wrong? I'd love to get the Thinkpad series, but I don't want to experience any stuck keys, flex in the keyboard, flex on the hand rest, creaky plastic.. Can you help? I'd like to know your opinion.

  • @Meyanoos Build quality wise, T series is definitely better in all aspects. Should any issue arise with keyboard, it's much easier to deal with on a T series laptop than an Edge. Also as they are all polycarbonate plastic, you will see a bit of flex in either model but nothing that is a show stopper. Having said all that, the T series did get weaker compared to those from yester years... However, I still do like the T series laptops the most out of all business PC laptops.

  • Soon i will buy one, good for work and gaming, and its cheap! YAY!

  • Nice review

  • What is the difference between this and the edge e425?

  • 4:27...

  • I have ordered this today after your review... thanks

  • If Lenovo bothered to push these laptops half as hard as Apple pushed Macbooks, this would be the standard laptop for college and whatnot. It's just a brilliant laptop overall.

    WINNING!

  • Thanks for the review. Does it have cooling slots on the bottom (so that I need to place it on a laptop board instead of on my lap so the cooling slots don't obstruct)? How do you feel about its thickness? I've gotten a bit spoiled by thinner profile 15.6" laptops where none of the ports are stacked, but here it looks like the SD slot stacks over another port, i.e. the body is thicker. But maybe the payback is a cooler bottom panel?

  • ok, this guy is 10000000000% korean

  • @starkid20 LOL!!! And you think that based on which? Just curious. Thanks for checking out the vid!!! :)

  • @TechGearGuy I think by the way you say "generation" :D And the "qhhhhhhuuuuite" pronounciation :P

  • @starkid20 Or John Malkovich doing a Thinkpad Edge 420 review, with a hint of french accent!

  • I have Core i5 2410M

  • Didn't know Christopher Walken did laptop reviews

  • I prefer the design of the previous Thinkpad Edge series. I like the grey 'belt' they had.

  • Can it play 1080p videos without lagging?

  • @triniface101 not a problem for this laptop.

  • How did I get here from watching kim kardashian's sex tape?

  • one of the best review i've ever seen

  • qhuite!

  • Just got one for $450 on the Lenovo website, triffic

  • Be honest... You presentation was very good. I had this Laptop also. The most important thing I needed to tell you. There had two editions of ThinkPad Edge E420.The different is the graphic. The edition which you said I thought was the HD graphic. But there had a edition which contained Amd Readon HD 6630M mobility graphic. Thx a lot for your information.

  • so how do you change the battery if needs to be change due to after 3 years of charging? are we to sent the laptop to lenovo company or we are to go land field to junk it due to battery issue?

  • Thanks for such a detailed review!

  • Wish it had the gloss screen!

  • man thats one thick laptop

  • Anybody tried using the 9-cell battery option(25++ series)?

  • I just bought this last week. I get slightly more than 4 hours of battery life with the LCD put at brightness '2' and bluetooth turned off, while leaving WiFi on and keeping the rest of power settings in "Maximum Battery Life" mode.

  • Wi-fi goodness!

  • I just bought my and I am really happy with it. I was about to get a MaC and then my friends finally convinced me to get a thinkpad instead. Awesome laptop. I truly recommend this to anyone.

  • 3832 not 3822

  • Didn't qhhhhhhhhuuittee have that feel of the Thinkpad keyboard.

    Funniest quite ever.

  • @peterpanmannnn Ha, was just looking if someone mad a comment about that, lol.

  • Is this a Customized Build directly from Lenovo? or is it prebuilt?

If prebuilt, what is the full model number?

  • i just got one Thinkpad edge e420. The capacity and its price is reasonable but it is a bit heavy. On the real downside is the keyboad:

    1. Keyboard: it look nice and clean, but there is 1.1: No "Alt + F4" to close application, 1.2: No "F2" to rename the file and to start some new games. 1.3: It's totally crazy that they omit "Right Click Key" and replace with "PrtSc" key. How often we use print screen.? We use "Right Click Key" very often while using "Arrow Key"

  • @vavuthy then use the right click of the mousepad...

  • 4:27

  • Does anyone know what the diff between the 14" core i5 Thinkpad Edge 0578-a99 and the 14" Thinkpad Edge e420 core i5 is? The Thinkpad Edge 0578-a99 costs $50 less. Why?? The specs look identical to me.

  • @bobowha 0578-a99 uses previous generation processor compared to e420. This also affects integrated graphics card.

  • Isn't this the E420s?

  • @TheLeafhopper No, the s version has a slot DVD drive for one thing.

  • @TheLeafhopper nope.. it's E420 without 's'

  • In the video, the screen of the computer looks a little bit flicker-y. Is that how it actually is, or is it just the camera?

  • @chilidog8745 that flickering would be the camera matching the screen refresh.

  • Solid review, I'm a mac guy, selling my old macbook pro and getting one of these... I like that its under $600 and holds 8gb + does sandy bridge + chiclet style keys... perfect for cheap. :D This review sealed it. You're the man.

  • @djruinerdotcom i did the exact same thing ! macbook gone for buying this ! :D I think we did a perfect choice :D

  • Very helpful review~ Just got this laptop for college!

  • It's actually 4gb.

    Good review though!

  • Good

  • help: should i get VibrantView or Anti-Glare? I'd being using it for school

  • @theycallmenavid If you want to use it outside at all, I would highly recommend the Anti-Glare. However, if you will be using this as an entertainment laptop heavily, I would go with the VibrantView.

  • @552Industries okay well i dont think id ever be outside really, definitely indoors, so i chose the vibrantview when i bought it, thanks for the response buddy! :)

  • thx for review

  • are there any caps lock/num lock, hard drive, etc. light indicators?

  • you should have gotten the e520

  • How noisy is the E420 and how "hot" does it run?

I have a fine Acer laptop but it rages like an inferno, runs hot and makes a lot of fan noise. Would like a quieter, cooler laptop...

  • Great review. However, I was only aware of the black and red lid colors. Yours appears to be silver. Is that just the lighting or did you really buy it in silver?

  • Can you tell me how you would tell that your laptop is fully charged without turning it on? Cause theres only 1 green light but thats on as soon as you plug in your ac adapter... ;(

  • can you tell me what are the differences between e420 and e420s?

  • could you please tell me how are the keyboard and touchpad connected? I mean if this is PS2 like in old thinkpad models or USB connection.

  • thanks for the review! wish the e420s wasn't so much more than this.

  • great i want to buy one

  • Could you give more details about the battery life?

I know you mentioned over 3 hours, but i was wondering on what setting, or usage scenario. I'd appreciate any info, thanks :).

  • @iosuntasta just hair over 3 hours with LCD brightness cranked all the way, WiFi going, standard use in Office 2010, chrome browser with multiple tabs open - some with Flash, no heavy CPU pushing, no optical drive used.

  • Looks cheap.

  • Can you tell me if there's an option to turn off the touchpad? I prefer the trackpoint, and it would be very annoying to constantly rub against the touchpad when using the laptop.

  • @Rundfunk90 there is a function key combination on all Thinkpads. on this laptop it looks like it is f10
