Who here still remembers "The Professor" Ron Caron, former Blues owner, & his gestures & waving his arms from up in the press box, that stuff was hilarious! LOL
Funny how, in both '86 & '93, the years the Habs won the Cup, the Leafs & Blues met in the Norris Division Final, both series went 7 games, both times the team with home ice won Game 7( the Blues, in '86, the Leafs in '93 ). In fact, if you go back to both the '86 & '93 playoffs, there were a lot of similarities...
If the Wings beat the leafs here they go on to win the cup!!!!!!! You can pencil that in. They would have beat the Blues, beat the kings and taken the Habs in a good six game series.
This was the playoffs where the Blues swept the Blackhawks in 4 straight in the 1st round in a shocking upset & Cujo was one of the hottest goalies in the playoffs...Cujo & Potvin both played solid through most of the series, but by the end Cujo tired, the Blues couldn't buy a goal vs Felix, & the Leafs plastered the Blues 6-0 in Game 7 at Maple Leaf Gardens to win the last ever Norris Division Title in the playoffs:-)
Kings and Wings series were great. Blues series was alright, more interesting from a goalie perspective. Even defensive hockey wasn't boring back then. This is just before the trap turned hockey into soccer on ice. What dramatics. It was hard to hate the Leafs then, since they'd been hard luck for so long plus the national media didn't obsess with them as much for that reason and also because they'd been so bad for so long. Once Ballard was in his grave, the franchise turned around for sure.
