i would give my life to have been able to just tell elliott how much he has helped us all through. thank you elliott "im never gonna know you now but im gonna love you anyhow"
Thank you, Elwin, for uploading one of the most (if not the most) revealing interviews of Elliott I've seen. There was something so touching about him. He was so unaffected and so unguarded. That shy, nervous smile just kills me.
I was there that year and I saw him play. It's the most fond memory I have of ever seeing anyone play at a concert/festival. I became an instant fan of his music and have been ever since. RIP Elliott
i have to say, elliott wasn't very good looking....imo....although im glad. He was a beautiful person, which leaves a better legacy than looks. I am so mad and sad he is gone...but at least he left us with tons of music! ~
I was there...17 years old.. best memory ever; him playing in a crowded Higher Ground tent and me thinking: who is this great guy? I never stopped loving his music. Thank you for this!
@36stylesofdanger, you need to listen carefully to his interviews. At first listen, it seems like his ideas are choppy and aren't making sense. At second listen, you will clearly see that he makes perfect sense and also valid points. Some people aren't the best public speakers, regardless if they're an addict or not. I suck at public speaking and find myself at a loss for words, but if I have time to sit down and think about what I want to say, I can express my words easily through writing.
@36stylesofdanger Your right. People shouldn't think of him as a god. He was just a person. He just happened to be someone who inspired the minds of hundreds of thousands, and quite possibly saved many young lives. I happen to know of someone who got through a lot more than just high school. But in all of that, Elliott couldn't get by his own past. There is a lot more to someones addiction then someone sees. I know what you mean, but try giving us your views without beating us with it
Great musician and amazing songwriter... I am so glad that I went to see him when a friend asked at his concert at the University of Utah before he died... He sounded great live and his songs were living works so much better then the superficial crap on most of the radio.
i am fortunate enough to see Elliott perform, once in 1999 (solo) and 2000 (band). i was right in front of him during his solo set, close enough to shake his hand. i was very much in awe of his performance and at the end, he looked down and waved good-bye at me. because i was standing so close, i can say he's a very good looking man.
whoa. ugly?!? that is a very strong word. i think elliott smith is goddamn hot! and the fact that he was the way he was, just so talented, humble and sweet makes him even that much more hotter. so...ugly? no way. absolutely not. he is totally hot.
"You can pretend you're bunch of people", it's kind of sad how he says that, though I'm doing that all the time haha. This is the first time I watch his interview though I've adored his music for a very long time. I think he tells all the most important things in his songs, and anyway someone said once that the only time he was really his own and relaxed was when he played music, but I don't know, how could I know, I just try to find out what kind of person he was.
actually this wasnt long after the oscars, so it was a valid question and for people who were watching, who hadn't heard of him before understood then that he accomplished alot already
He seems so fucking humble and shy. Easy to forget when you're listening to him talk that he was the best writer of songs ever in the opinion of many.
It's really great too hear him talk; Full stop. ;P
Seriously, I love his interviews. The way he talks, kind of reminds me of the way I talk. Accept I'm british and have a deeper voice. He really makes me laugh though. XD
Hope there's a heaven and he's there. I really do. Even though I don't believe in that shit, I really hope so. =)

More talent in his little toe than most people have in their whole body.
My university guitar instructor couldn't even play most of his tunes. It made me smile.
