@SovjetPhoenix - the West already modernised the TU144. However, I Russia does make some excellent aircraft not available elsewhere like the AN225 transport plane and the Mil 26 transport helicopter. These are bigger than anything else for the purpose they serve. But, Russia has never ever been good at making anything compact. Russia has good and bad just like anywhere else and has some good stuff. USA and UK have good stuff too.

@SovjetPhoenix - Forgot to mention TU160 - yes it's an excellent aircraft and biggest combat warplane ever built. USA were to build a plane same size, same capability but went stealth instead which is better, but not so big. UK and useless France do not need such a large plane and simply cannot justify the enormous costs. UK has an excellent defence force even though many think it hasn't; they won't tell you all their secrets as it's a threat to national security for others to know.

It's big and can carry enough Nukes to send a lot of enemys straight to hell. UK, France, Germany...all these Countrys don't need Military Stuff like Stealth Bombers or Warbirds like TU-160. EU is peacefull and prefer to stay in defence position just like Russia do. We don't want war and EU don't want war. We just upgrade our defence.

Dude, F-35 is as related to the YAK as a Computer with a watch.

F-35 took ONE principle from YAK, but that is it.

The rest of the airframe is derived from the YF-22 concept.

Its about 50% F-22, 20% F-16, 5% Yak, and 25% Future Tech.

You do realise Lockmart just took some flight data about the Yak for the F-35 right?

It also isn't a major part, as it is only for the B version, AND it is a very tiny portion of that airplane. The avionics, and stealth is what makes F-35 great, not the ability to perform STOVL.

Futhermore, F-35's Lift system is Completely different from that of the Yak-141, as the Yak uses several engines to acheive VTOL flight, while the F-35 uses one.

@cr9527 Dont compare the avionics ..that aircraft is from the 70's..several engines??it uses a fan driven by a single engine just like the f35..that allowed the whole design to be lighter..one design had to satisfy all 3 forces one of the reasons Boeing lost cos they had to place the engine in the middle leading to a huge intake nozzle making it heavier the other reason was they had to please the Brits cos Bae systems was with lockheed
