Why even compare this thing to an F-22? They're different roles. The J-10 is an inexpensive multirole fighter similar to the F-16. You can't compare it to a dedicated air superiority fighter like the F-22 or SU-37, the latter being a tech demonstrator and not a production fighter. So yes, the J-10 would lose to an F-22, but it was never intended to take down F-22s. The J-20 would be more comparable to the F-22, but so far we have so little info on it.
China's strategy is and has always been throwing vast numbers into the fight in order to "win by over-run". The J-10 backs that up. Build 'em cheap and fast.

The origin of this plane is Israeli project Lavi fro 80s which Israelis did not managed financially into production. Later they sold this technology to China.

@showbutdonttell J-10 is a Lavi fighter developed in Israel with the United States. We know exactly what the figures are and how old it is. The Lavi was based on the F-16 chassis and tech from the 80's. Sorry no amount of propaganda can cover that up.

well, I was going to say that the J10 is much bigger than the F16 which in turn is bigger than the Lavi. comparing the two, the J10 is much longer and needed an LERX on the delta and has a movable intake. Also, the J10's main inspiration was drawn from the J9, a previous attempt to make an interceptor that lost out to the J8II. and yes, the powerplant was initially the AL31F from Russia, but it now uses a slightly better, Chinese made WS10.

It was a direct copy of the International CFM56, but China couldnt match the metallurgy required to produce the engine in volume. It is not being used in the J-10, its still under development. I noticed that this WS-10A doesnt use as much fuel as single GE F-414 used on the supper hornet at the same speed. The J-10(was known as the Lavi) is an Israeli made aircraft. Originally, it had many high-tech(and expensive) systems. Because of the high price, Israel sold the J-10 to the chinese while reducing it's high-tech system so it'll be cheap to manufacture.

My friends' father was a designer involving in developing this fighter, the program started since 1986, mainly led by Chinese designers and engineers, but Israeli engineers had offered consultancy. Many engineers for this fighters in 1980s had finally worked for Boeing and Lockheed now, a bit loss to the designing institute.
Is better than the Su-27, according to China, so it can obviously better than F-18. But in some years USA will have F-22 and F-35 much better than J-10.

Could to be incorporating a PESA radar, stronger airframe and the Saturn AL-31FN M1 turbofan engine with 3D thrust vector control .
1. Wrong, 3D TVC is the LAST Thing you want to use when a missile is coming at you. Any TVC would be a suicide maneuver.
When you engage TVC, your aircraft turns in direction, without shifting in momentum, thus, increasing drag, dramatically, slowing your aircraft down, making it a quite slow, large target.
2. The F-4 example was an analogy. J-10 is a 4th generation aircraft, but 4.5th? Doubtful.
4.5 is the J10B, but it will be overmatched by new Chinese and Russian designes in a few years. I had no doubt that China will become a great military and technological power by 2020, they are developing a lot of new designes, and the military budget of China is growing and growing
trust me, military development and advancements is a Very large morale raiser. Economy on the other hand, while still important, it doesn't create nearly a large of an impact.
Mainly because military is associated with power amongst most people.
China has announced double-digit increases in military spending nearly every year for more than a decade, they have a lot of money to at least make good aircrafts.

@showbutdonttell J-10 is a Lavi fighter developed in Israel with the United States. We know exactly what the figures are and how old it is. The Lavi was based on the F-16 chassis and tech from the 80's. Sorry no amount of propaganda can cover that up.

The Chinese however, sought to obtain the technologies from Israel but pressure by the US prevented the design exchange. This forced the PRC to develop a vast majority of the components for the J-10 while still taking some, but little technologies from Israel and Russia such as the main shape and powerplant. Propaganda doesn't need to cover up false details

Every educated aircraft engineer knows that the J-10 is the Lavi fighter. It is the same Aircraft, only utilizing different flight systems/engine. The Lavi's backbone is also the F-16, and Israel did co develop it with the United States. These are simple, widely accepted facts. I don't know where you get your information from, but it is simply false.

well, I was going to say that the J10 is much bigger than the F16 which in turn is bigger than the Lavi. comparing the two, the J10 is much longer and needed an LERX on the delta and has a movable intake. Also, the J10's main inspiration was drawn from the J9, a previous attempt to make an interceptor that lost out to the J8II. and yes, the powerplant was initially the AL31F from Russia, but it now uses a slightly better, Chinese made WS10.

It was a direct copy of the International CFM56, but China couldnt match the metallurgy required to produce the engine in volume. It is not being used in the J-10, its still under development. I would strongly recommend doing some more research into the J-10's origins. China is making strides in other arena's, but J-10 is not one.

i work on the engine of F18-E Super Hornet. But this Ws-10A is definitely more superior. I noticed that this WS-10A doesnt use as much fuel as single GE F-414 used on the supper hornet at the same speed. GE-F414 engines need daily servicing and maintenance, but this one doesnt. as a matter of fact, most F-414 engine related components are heavy weight, and that limits its maneuver abilities. However, with 2 engines, The Super Hornets are quite Faster then the J10s.

I have also looked at Avionics and radars performance of this J10s. im sure it can down any F-16, and legacy Hornets( F-18 A,B,C), but it will be downed by the F-22s Raptor and maybe F-18-E super Hornet (more superior over speed but lack of maneuvering). F-35s are built for one sole purpose of showcasing, and i downplay it.

The J-10(was known as the Lavi) is an Israeli made aircraft. Originally, it had many high-tech(and expensive) systems. Because of the high price, Israel sold the J-10 to the chinese while reducing it's high-tech system so it'll be cheap to manufacture.

My friends' father was a designer involving in developing this fighter, the program started since 1986, mainly led by Chinese designers and engineers, but Israeli engineers had offered consultancy. Many engineers for this fighters in 1980s had finally worked for Boeing and Lockheed now, a bit loss to the designing institute.

2. Those countries who have been buying Chinese jets, for the most part, continue to buy old J-7s, not even its "replacement", the JF-17 has been successful. Only a handfull of countries want it.

A new J-10 variant have appeared. They show the prototype of a J-10 modified with a divertor-less supersonic intake,an infra-red search and track sensor, modified (extended) vertical stabiliser and ventral fins, new under-wing hardpoints and a modified nose that could indicate a new type of radar. Could to be incorporating a PESA radar, stronger airframe and the Saturn AL-31FN M1 turbofan engine with 3D thrust vector control .

PESA radar is a nice label, but without specifications, it is pointless.
3D TVC isn't useful in most combat situations, it is nothing but a trinket, used to sell the products.
It is essentially like the F-4, and upgraded F-4E.
Customers are the greatest indicator for performance of a product.

1. Wrong, 3D TVC is the LAST Thing you want to use when a missile is coming at you. Any TVC would be a suicide maneuver.
When you engage TVC, your aircraft turns in direction, without shifting in momentum, thus, increasing drag, dramatically, slowing your aircraft down, making it a quite slow, large target.
2. The F-4 example was an analogy. J-10 is a 4th generation aircraft, but 4.5th? Doubtful.
