yeah, but i think sumo wrestlers are healthy. n i don't know any 300lb+ that can bench press their own weight, to push ups, or even run a few miles a day. hell, i've seen a sumo wrestler with a six pack, n he was ripped. my dad is overweight, n he's cholesterol is @ 50, his immune system is good, blood pressure is normal. i believe if one chooses to be overweight, there is a way to do it n keep healthy, then the other way is unhealthy. my grandma was overweight n she passed away at teh age of 90
This is a bit Orwellian... as in the book 1984. I'll leave with a quote: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it on to our children in the blood stream. It must be fought for and protected and handed on for them to do the same. Or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and grandchildren what is used to be like in the United States when men were free.” - Ronald Reagan
Another aspect of this is it absolutely hurts business - what does a company (a private & separate entity in US) have to do with it's employees and their eating habits? Companies have nothing to do with the private lives of it's employees. The more I re-watch and analyze this is just plain ridiculous and is a sham for the govt to score some more cash. So if 10 companies face the same fate of NEC that's almost $200MM for the govt lol. Looks like a good biz opp to me. Big govt ain't good.
@eslut3 I just wanted to clarify more on the "Pizza is a vegetable" you say japan's government is up for some quick cash. Michele Obama(First lady?) has been trying to improve what students eat at school. Frozen Pizza was one of those food at lunch, Now the companies who make these were annoyed that their food would be taken off the menu thus losing biz, so what does the congress do? declare the Pizza is a vegetable because it has tomato(a fruit) sauce in it. Private influencing government.
@Sazad93 No clarification needed. Our govt isn't saying pizza is a vege. & Taking pizza off grade school menus does not equal the billions of dollars japan will benefit from lol. Nice try, but very far reach. In fact, they didnt say pizza was a vegetable, they stated that it had enough tomato based ingredients to qualify it as eatable for young kids in schools. Congress NEVER declared pizza as a vegetable. You need to realize that your country is spinning things incorrectly.
@eslut3 CNN and american news networks are the one with the title "America declare bla bla" ANyway the point is not that it says pizza is or is not a vegtable, but the point how much manuvering your congress is making in order to please the private companies, which in reality means your government is being controlled by the private companies at some extent. hell a private companies prints your money (Just because they stick federal on the bank doesn't make it governmental)
$19,000,000 in fines for NEC!?? So what happens if some of it's employees dont lose weight, fired? Don't get that raise or bonus? They will have to recoup costs. They now play exercise music twice a day!?!? hahahhah - I hope they all enjoy being treated like abunch of hamsters lolol
its not truly illegal, the companies will just have to pay more in order to obtain the health privileges, If you think about it well enough its no different in the USA where if you are over weight you are less likely to obtain health insurance or you will have to pay more. At-least here under government control with actual interest in health of the employees rather than making profit
@Sazad93 Whats not illegal? There is a fine if you are fat. That makes it illegal. US companies don't pay more if you are overweight. You get insurance period. Never have I been asked to take a fat test when I receive insurance thru a company. So that def makes it different than the US. Our govt has better stuff to think about than if people are fat. Thats the job of the individual not the govt. IMO its a way in which govt can squeeze more money from the people and spin it as som'n positive.
@eslut3 They do ask you for "Any previous or on-going medical conditions" And seeing how overweight people are much more likely to be at risk of automatically many more illnesses and determining insurance based on it (Unless something changed recently that how to was). ya your government is deciding that Pizza is a vegetable :P. Japans spends 1/4 of what Usa spends on health with 4.5 years higher life expectancy than the Usa. thats why the USA needs this IMO.
@Sazad93 No, I was never asked anything about the status of my health when I received medical plans from my country. They simply asked the type I wanted which was HMO or PPO. So you are incorrect again. The CDC states that obese / overweight spend $~1500 more than non-obese people in health care cost. Not that much. this includes diabetes needs and strips which are very expensive. And 4.5 years? Who cares. Still doesnt mean I need to be FORCED to be skinny by a govt who shouldnt have concern
Absolutely f***cked up. Govt should NOT tell me whether or not I'm fat, when Im' fat and waht to do about me being fat.
We are a FREE society. more and more Americans are losing this notion and supporting things like what the video poster suggested. Is this ok for America!? Ya, it's ok just as much as if it's ok to tell you exactly how to raise your child.
@eslut3 you strike me as an ignorant, irrational type of person. Of course the government can tell you that you are overweight. When excessive amounts of people rank as being overweight (which can be identified by the use of the well reasoned Body Mass Index) it's the government's responsibility to save the people from themselves. This is part of the reason why a governing body is elected; to help the people who cannot help themselves, through lack of WILL-POWER or otherwise.
@quietcat161 Funny, I have the same thoughts about your idiocy. The role of govt is absolutely NOT to protect the people from themselves. It's to protect them from each other. You're ignorant thinking is what promotes socialism and communism and fascist regimes. Its this type of thinking that forces women in parts of the world to cover up completely to "save" them from lustful eyes of men lol. Being fat is a choice 90% of the time. You are suggesting the govt take the roll of Jenny Craig lol.
@eslut3 So according to your trail of though, Drugs should be legal. Suicide should also be legal (not that it matters much). There is a difference between positive interference and negative interference. And its funny that you should mention "freedom" in one post and then judge other communities "Woment in parts of ..." in another. maybe they chose to wear those cloths, just as "being fat is choice in 90% of the time".
@Sazad93 It's not *my* trail of thought. Its what the founding fathers of the US envisioned. The govt is NOT to act as the parent of its citizens. Suicide isn't enforcable. Negative vs positive interference isnt the quesiton. And if it was, whos to say what is in fact positive? Thats a relative thing. Freedom and judgement aren't mutually exclusive. If someone wants to be free and be fat doesn't mean they aren't judged.
@Sazad93 I didn't judge anyone. I used an example of how govt control results in a loss of freedom. Women who are forced to wear som'n they dont want to or if a person is forced to take a fat test is a loss of freedom & violation of personal rights. The fact that you think women opt to wear a Burka shows youre not aware. Americans don't subscribe to govt control. I'm a diabetic & watch the quantity & type of my intake. It's not hard & Im not or have ever been overweight.
@eslut3 Well you said being Fat was "by choice 90% of cases" and so I said maybe wearing the extra layers of cloths was by choice in 90% as well. you never lived in such a country? just because your government tell you something doesn't mean its true. Give me an accurate survey that says 90% of fat people want to be so, and I will give you an accurate survey that 90% of women like to wear extra layers of cloths.
@Sazad93 Yes, it's a choice in the US. We have healthy food everywhere. Different states have higher overweight rates than others, etc. CDC published a study that stated obesity has trippled in last 10 yrs. This IS indicative that its a choice. Other nations that force their women to wear Burkas ADMITTEDLY is not a question - it's fact. Dont need to live there especially since may of my friends are from these places. Youll find ur accurate study on the CDC website - eating healthy is a choice.
@eslut3 eating healthy is a choice, eating bad is usually uncontrollable at a certain point and no longer a choice (such as drugs). you might have self control others don't. Anyway this is pointless, While I understand your point of view (Freedom) I do look at things from a health point of view as a med student. (as for the clothing in certain countries thing I was trying to do a if this is true then this is also true kinda a thing but I guess my English isn't as good as I though :S )
@Sazad93 I haven't been to McDonalds or Dominos, etc... in about three months. If you go everyday - it's a choice. If you eat fried twinkies it's a choice. Private companies shouldnt' be forced to pay when you can easily stop jamming cupcakes and double cheese burgers down your throat. That's the bottom line. Japan's govt is simply capitalizing on this *choice* and gaining monetarily from it.
@eslut3 More important- if I choose to be fat & jam all sorts of tasty treats into my mouth, I nor anyone else (especially my workplace) should be fined. Everyone knows the negative repercussions of obesity. Noone needs to be "saved" as you put it. Education has done its part in this matter - Americans & Japanese and the other citizens of the world know: eat more, get fatter & die quicker. Yet, they still make a choice. Usually I see skinny people running and fat people eating... why is that?

wow. ~ with the title of the video it seems horrible. but after watching the video it seems not so bad. also I agree with other who say that it doesn’t say it’s illegal, just fines~ but I would feel bad for those who are having a hard time with weight. It’s not easy to loose weight I think... =(
First, please show where you originally got this video from (I assume it's /watch?v=L1hqHo6lyUU). Secondly, it would be helpful that you show when this was implemented--in 2008. Thirdly, you could have at least created a more educated title and description: it is NOT illegal, it has repercussions but it is NOT illegal. More importantly it's for people OVER 40 years old.
If you were going to rip a video and repost it on your own account, at least be better than the previous poster and create a more educated criticism instead of repeating exactly what that previous poster said.
Japanese overweight people are what America calls normal or skinny. America's perception of healthy weight is terribly distorted nowadays, with countless fat people rationalizing their terrible diets and weight. In this case, America would do well to learn from the Japanese, medically and financially.
@AlexNiedt We need to learn from the Japanese financially? lol. Do you not know the state of the various economies across the world? If you did then you'd realize we probably shouldn't learn from them in that aspect. In fact, looks like they are having the same problems we are - hence them instilling this fat test. lol
@eslut3 "Financially" meaning they won't reach the current US state of obesity costing insane amounts of money. How are they having the same problem as we? Clearly the Japanese aren't nearly as fat as Americans. They're calling 33 inch waist fat, which is considered normal in America. Yes, the Japanese may be smaller overall, but obviously they're not that far removed.
