Either make the enemies do double damage, or make a Hard Mode in the game where they do. You should also have some enemies in there that are more dangerous than the existing ones-- not as in more damage, but for example enemies that fire at you, take multiple hits, or dodge attacks and stuff. (Make these enemies less common.)

This is looking like a wonderful game. :)
