3 turns of polyester thin tent sewing thread wound around the space between the zoom ring and body did it fo me no more creep and it stll zooms smooth and being polyester it is self lubricating
might be a stupid question but does this happen when the camera is in hand or just when you let go or place it on a tripod? Because if your holding it then surely it cant turn and creep?
I really have very very bad experience with this lens and so regreat to buy this lens also... cos my this lens totally i have been send it back to the Nikon Factory to repair for 3 times.... but to day it still many problem with it... ...
Nice lens but they all do this they need to make the lens lock on each mm 50mm - 70mm - 135mm and so on but they just have techs with no real minds to get it right... I thought of that years ago now watch they copy the idea but I don't care great video.
I returned this and got a second and then a third. The third has no lens creep. I suspect it will loosen up and start to creep like the one in the video.
I wonder what they meant in the press release when they stated the following:
"The AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200MM F/3.5-5.6G ED VR II incorporates an all new zoom mechanism to prevent what is sometimes referred to as zoom creep (the lens moves under its own weight when tilted). A new zoom lock switch keeps the lens compact when being carried as well. "
Maybe I have a bad copy. Nikon tech support said it will creep.
@marcfogel I believe the new 18-200's zoom lock function is only to keep it locked in it's smallest position (18mm) when walking with the lens. At all other focal lengths I think it will still creep as the original. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Rubber band trick always works. Lens creep unless it is a model with lock, will happen sooner or later on heavy optic lenses like this one.

I fixed mine be placing an O-ring around the lens at the point were the lens rotates to create a bit of drag , work perfectly

It cost almost $50 to put in a lense lock on each zoom range, and they didnt add it to save cost.

you can fix that by dropping it on a sandy beach.
