What Obama REALLY needs to do is understand the guirella war tactics that they use over there. Imagine US forces knowing the lands inside and out. TaIiban won't stand a chance.

Secondly, more importantly, Public's support here is vital. Public sees US as invaders and their own govt. as puppets who do nothing for their well being. For that reason they don't have motivation to fight TaIiban.

On a side note - Pak's army disrespects it's own constitution - they need to be straightened.

The problem with your assessment is that the US has indigenous fighters on their side (remember the Northern Alliance?) who know the terrain just as well as the Taliban and who kick the Taliban's ass with the help of US air power when the US first entered the country.

Secondly, the same was said about Iraq but the US made alliances with keys militias and thus got public support. Let's also remember that Al-Qaeda are also foreigners to Afghanistan and they can use that, as they did in Iraq.

Obama is trying to fix Bushs mess, Bush should have stayed in Afghanistan but he invaded Iraq while lying about WMDs. It was a smart move by Obama because hes sending in the troops to train Afghan forces for the time being while in 18 months the troops will be leaving so its good to know that a timetable was reached.

President Obama clearly stated throughout his campaign the need to direct effort and resources to finishing the job in afganistan with repect to al qeada and taliban, as pakistan and afganistan are the nexus of their operations.

I'm surprised that a member of the military doesn't have a basic grasp strategy (though it could not be disclosed for obvious reasons) + the strength of numbers increases the speed and efficiency of closer on the war.

Including approaches that deal with the heart of the problem that is a unified effort domestically and abroad to clearly define the difference between islam and the exploitation of islam because of poor education of moslems with respect to the fundamental principles of islam.
