I never attended an old latin mass before. I want to be able to understand what they say in Latin before I attend one, even though its exactly the same in english. Latin mass is beautiful and Gregorian Chants make it all the better
@Graffkulture11899 Tridentine Latin Mass is not translated the same as the English Novus Ordo Mass at all... just get a missal with the Latin/English translation. All the Sacrements were change in form and matter as well.
I love seeing so many young people drawn to the old Latin Mass. The "new" Mass is in a sense, our gift to ourselves. The old Mass is God's gift to us.
Was the audio not going together with the video? o_0 Because the Priest is not in the correct position when offering Jesus to the congregation and saying, "Lord, I am not worthy that Thou should enter under my roof..." in Latin of course. To me this seemed like a more "liberal" Latin Mass, if that makes any sense.
The Priest does not Face God, on the Altar literally the entire Mass. Their are some Parts of the Tridentine that have the Priest face the People. Like the Dominus Vobiscum or the Homily.
dacatholicbandorgan, the Priest faces Jesus the whole time during the Liturgy of the Eucharist except when he turns to us and says, "Dominus Vobiscum" and of course after the "Ite Misa Est" for the blessing.
In my comment I referred to the time when the Priest says the "Ecce Agnus Dei" to the people right before Holy Communion. He is also facing the congregation while saying those words. The audio was just off on the video, that's all.
You need to stop quoting apologetics and look at reality. Christ never created a Mass. There were many christian churches in the first & second century all with different forms of worship & beliefs. Mathew 16 was interpreted differently by the Council of Nicea which governed the church after Constantine. Today's papacy is an invention of Gregory the Great. Tabernacles, statuary, & vestments did not exist in the early house church. Nor did transubstantiation. Read books on archeology.
If you belive that what it says in scirpture is the important then why are you denying the fact? All of this was instituted by God, and scripture proves that.
You need to be careful about "tradition". The papacy was built on a number of forged documents eg. The Donation of Constantine, The False Decretals etc.The same church fathers who twisted fact : "edited" history also. Read "Misquoting Scripture" by Bart Erhman. Today's Bible had: many early texts thrown out, passages corrupted , and stories added after the fact. It was rewritten many times by many people. What Jesus message was is sketchy. We all need to be skeptical.
Now I am convinced that you are trashing your own church beacuase the protestant bible came from the catholic bible (minus 5 books, thanks to Luther).
God is not owned by the Catholic Church, the Orthodox, Lutherans or any other denomination. Nor is one church any better than the other. God is ineffible..meaning beyond human understanding. Let's not try to package the Infinite in tradition, dogma, scripture, hierarchy or any other man made device. God is a living being not an idol controlled by men. Spirituality is a journey of discovery. Celebrate life's mystery, enjoy fellowship & have a one on one relationship with your maker..
13mns, you don't know what you are talking about. Christ founded "A CHURCH" not "THE CHURCHES" . One faith, one baptism, one fold & one shepherd. Christ pray to God the Father that all his follower may be "ONE".
God is not owned by any church. But God certainly established the Catholic Church as HIS Church. So you could say that God owns the Catholic Church! :)
Quote: (Nor did he institute) "Vestments, candles, statuary etc".
Fact: God (the father) did institute Vestments (of a sort), the use of an Altar, and Tabernacle and incense.
Quote: "Thease are all man made historic accidents".
True: If you argue that, then you are also saying that the Protestants are not better seeming as how they where not only founed by men (like Luther, Calvan and others) but they even suppress and deny biblical and historical truths like you just did.
Fact: God (the son) instituted Mass in the first place. The Latin Mass is a mix of old liturgies (starting from the one Christ first said) and a few new Ideas (lead by the Holy Spirit)
Quote: "Nor did he institute the Papacy".
Fact: Matthew 16 "You are Peter, the rock unto which I will build my church".
Quote: "Nor did he institute the Rosary".
Fact: No he did not. His blessed mother did, to St. Dominic.
The people should have the option(s) of choosing what type of worship they want to praise God with. What works for one does not work for another. We need to respect eachother...the conservatives have an agenda of dogmatism and monarchy that is scary. What counts is a meaningful relationship with God nod honoring Tradition.
Liturgy means THE WORK OF THE PEOPLE. As such it is modern man trying to have a meaningful relationship to his maker. God does not dictate the way, manner, time or place this can occur. God never instituted the Latin Mass, nor did he institute the papacy, nor did he institute the rosary, vestments, candles, statuary etc we see in traditional churches. These are all man made historic accidents. As such they can and should be changed to fit society.
I have four, serious, heart-felt questions every Catholic holding some heretical view about the Tridentine Mass being the "only true" Mass should ask themselves::
1) What language did Jesus speak? (Hint: Aramaic, Not Latin)
2) What language was the Bible ORIGINALLY written in? (Hint: Greek, Not Latin)
3) Why did Latin become the language of the Church in the first place? (Hint: Romans were good administrators)
4) Which is more important: Mass or God? (Hint: God)
For people that don't know, Saint Francis of Assisi (a very small village in Italy) is the Saint Patron of the Country: the Saint that spent the best of his life in Poverty, far from Palaces and Wells...
Typical reactionary propaganda: Showing how the Tridentine mass is more respectful! Showing people driving 40 miles to see it! Explaining how the Latin is actually understood through available misals! And interviewing young people born long after Vatican II who appreciate the mass. This is all standard conservative lies to make people think the Tridentine mass is better than the Novus Ordo clown-masses where we can chew gum, talk on cell phones and sing "Anything Goes" from our hymnals.
Do these Cardinals and the Pope believe that Yahweh speaks Latin only? If any ONE language should be used, it would have to be ancient Hebrew.
But Yahweh created all languages, so he understands them all.
Or maybe they are praying to the ancient god of the Romans, Janus, or maybe Jupiter, or Saturn, who was the horned one with goats feet Pan who we call Satan
no they are not praying to a pagan God. We Catholics believe that there is something sacred about Latin. First of all its beautiful when sung (without instruments) and it was used by the Church for almost two milennia. Yes Hebrew would be cool but latin is just as theologically correct.
*ahem*... no we don't. The councils have never taught, nor has a Pope ever taught, nor did JESUS teach, that there is any sacredness in a language.
I enjoy Tridentine Masses; there is nothing more or less sacred about Latin than there is about English, or Hebrew, or Aramaic, or Spanish, or ANY language.
im sorry but this is going against tradition when u say mass in any other language..the cannon law forbade the translation but yet it was changed in Vatican 2 y?
duh, of course God knows all languages. This is an issue regarding mankind. Latin was the main language of the world at the time of Christ and the apostles (much like English is considered so today). It is the common bond and thus, language in Church matters and worship.
Also, since Latin is a dead language, there is no confusion or ambiguity as to what a word or phrase can mean. In stark comparison an "alive" language like English, has changing words and contexts each year or generation.
If you study all the scriptures, Yahweh told his people to not eat human flesh, or drink any blood. It is an abomination He says. The practice of communion came from the Mithras religion. Which was one of the traditions of Ancient Babylon, and of the Romans before Christ. Get it??? Mystery Babylon the Great. I know in my heart that communion was added to the words of Yahshua, he was a Jew, and would not say those things, "this is my body, this is my blood".
Would God change his mind about eating human flesh? Or drinking blood? Over and over in the Bible Yahweh calls those things an abomination....
Clearly those things were added, to bring in the Mithras belivers into the RCC. Just like they adopted the Fish Hats of the Chaldeans of Babylon, they brought in Mother of Heaven worship as well.
Christ IS the NEW covenant, not a perpetuation of the old covenant--which did included animal sarifice, avoidance of "unclean" animal meats, etc. You seem to have more the enfatuation of proving fault in Christian tradition.
If "Mother of Heaven" worship refers to VENERATION of Mary, you're again poisoned.
Since you love to stand on the Bible, you'd be happy to learn that respect and veneration of the Mother of God is as a mediatrix for the salvation of mankind. Look at the role of Bathsheba.
The new covenant or as Jesus called new wine; is salvation through Jesus, he put an end to animal sacrifice, and became the lamb. There is no salvation through any other. Not Mary, or ingesting anything except the word to know who is our salvation and King.
"respect" to the Novus Ordo? It's an abomination with circus music, "feel-good" parties and concerts, immodest dress, disrepectfulness to the Eucharist and Blessed Sacrament. Just off the top of my head!!
Then the whole Church is a lie, the Bible is a lie, and Jesus is a lie.
What was the first thing the Apostles did when the Church kicked off on Pentecost? Learned other languages, went out and preached in them, and said Mass with them! That was THE Pope, St. PETER.
"Respect" to the Popes? "Respect" to Jesus who set His church on the Rock of the first pope, St. Peter? "Respect" to the Magisterium? "Respect" to Vatican II, which allowed the changes to begin? "Respect" to the Bishops (including the Popes) who let them continue? "Respect" to Jesus himself, who did not ever say a Mass in Latin, or "Respect" to St. Peter, our first pope, who also never said a Mass in Latin?
Then why are idols of Buddha and Hindu ceremonies permitted in dioceses in the name of "eccumentalism"? Respect? RESPECT? The Novus Ordo was made from a council of Protestants making changes to Catholicism, not the P'ts coming back into the fold.
Not even Protestants would allow Hindu worship in house devoted to The Trinune (only) God.

I think it is wonderful that the Roman Catholic Church is reviving the Latin Mass.
I also noticed that the Priest in Latin Mass services also faces the altar instead of the congregation.
God bless my Roman Catholic friends.
