@zainadlr it is an art+fashion+design+literary movement - there's a youtube video entitled "Steampunk in Oxford' that has some good stuff by way of an introduction to it..
@zainadlr Steampunk started as a science fiction genre that asks the question, what if the Age of Information came 100 years ago to coincide with the Victorian and Age of Discovery. That is why they emphasize goggles and period ware. What if pirates rode in airships, etc...
@sevendeadly69 I'd imagine a steampunk belly dance belt (leather+rivets+brass) would be required for steampunk events where costume adds to the performance.
I did something similar with a belt I picked up at the Salvation Army (I loooove $2 belts!!) and had great fun adding bits and pieces to it. Nice to know creative minds find similar grooves ;p
i found a tiny gypsy clothing and accessories store in downtown washington dc where i purchased a gypsy coin belt for $40........before i got home, it fell apart :*(
but this tutorial really helped me to make my own custom belt that wont fall apart!!! thanks so much!!!
Yes - sometimes those old metal belts do that. I've had a lot of the falling apart stuff! But at least you can use them for parts - although after spending $40, it seems like it should at least stay in one piece.
@OnlyAPoetNeedApply I have paid $90 for a coin belt and had it fall apart the first time i wore it. This has happened with a couple of expensive belts. I have also made my own belts and they have stayed together a lot better. I just bought a couple of belts that were the same design and colour; I am a plus size dancer so your usual belts dont fit me. I need one and a half to make one belt and the rest of the belt can be used to make a matching bra; using the detailing.
how do you make the top?

Thanks for posting this! I've been contemplating making a belt like this for a while now, but the video reminded and motivated me!

Good! It's such an easy way to do it - super urban, too. It'd be fun to do it with just lots of keys...

Yeah, no kidding! Making a 'designer' belt accessible (as long as you're the designer)...
