I LOVED that bakery that was on the upper mall level... they had the biggest cookies ever! I believe it was called Newman's Old World Bakery and it was in the JCPenney area.
do you have any more videos of the mall? you know I'v tried looking for any pictures or anything that I could find on thew omni. I wanted to show my daughter the famous carousel and to my surprise there is nothing out there. Just short reviews and no pictures. I love the omni! It was a weekly thing. I first had to go to the toy dept. @ JC penny even if it was just to look around and then a couple of rounds on the carousel and if I got lucky the arcade too. Man that was the best. Pls post more
Who ever recorded this and still has the tapes please post more of them in here and especially if you took videos of the mall in general.I am interested in seeing it.
I have been exploring around to see what ever happened to the O.M.N.I. it just soo happens that the previous hotel that was there I think it was a raddison decided to tear it all up and just leave a big hollow wharehouse in the space of the mall and they covered up the glass on the elevators so you couldent see anything.Stupid idea.
@DjSonicMiami Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. The last time I went in that mall was 1998; the shops were closed up, the Wyndham was in the area, and my brother and I rode a double-floored carousel for the last time in that mall. My family used to go out there all the time and it was great. The only thing that remains is the hotel, the offices, and a bridge connecting to the Metromover station across the street.
To me the O.M.N.I. was special.I remember the glass elevators that took you fom the mall up to the O.M.N.I. Hotel.I used to love to ride in those elevators and see the carousel and the view.I remember eating pizza in the Cossolies pizzeria I think it was.I also remember the Indian stores with all the incence and stuff.I think there was a nightclub there too and one in the O.M.N.I. HOTEL.wasent it called SCARAMOOCH or something like that?I wish I can find more videos of the O.M.N.I..
I remember going to alot of malls when I was a kid back in the early 80s(the Mall at 163rd st. -Westland Mall-Midway Mall-then Aventura Mall) but the O.M.N.I had a special magic about it.Maybe Im just imagining thins or crazy.
This is a very pleasant suprise.I have alot of fond memories of going with my family on the weekends to the legendary O.M.N.I. I remember the Jordan Marsh on one end the J.C. Penny on the other there was a movie theater I believe.I have pictures of me in the carusel when I was like 7 years old.
Was this in the Omni mall in Miami, Fl?? This video is unbelievable! All those crazy styles and the general 80s design of the stores. I love these kinds of videos, they really take me back...
