Father Barron , I am not Catholic (I believe that I Jesus died on the Cross for us and that grace and salvation is obtainable through Jesus Christ) but your series of videos have been an inspiration and made a positive difference. Have a good week onwards. Greetings from South Africa
How about one of the many canonized saints or at least someone who isn't a heretic. I admit his early work was excellent but later fell in the errors of the modern world.
Greatest Spiritual writer though??? I think Fulton Sheen's Life of Christ has more to offer in depth than what Merton published.
Yes I think Merton Sold out for relativism and a pluralistic position that is irreconcilable with the Catholic faith ... so if you wanna make that analogy then yes his his last few albums flopped :P
Lol, whatever works for you man. I can't imagine reducing spirituality to such terms . Then again I don't even like the idea of rooting for one religious sports team, I'd rather study them all. So I guess you could call me a pluralist, sorry if that disappoints you.
Thank you Father for all your suggestions. Today is the Feast of the Epiphany and I listened to you and it makes me think of our goal in life, to make it to heaven. If we do what you suggest hopefully we all will be in heaven together. Thank you and God bless you for all you words of wisdom.
My resolution this year was to "give up resolutions" but this makes sense and it's easy and I'm going to do it! Resolutions have always been about me and these three simple challenges have given me the desire to change that! Three simple things......thank you!
Father Barron, can you make a video about why we need different Christian denominations. I'm just confused why we need them because why should Christianity be divided? Just like why should there be different political parties? It doesn't make since to me because it just divides everyone apart. (please respond)
Why does God make black & white people, why does God make people who speak different languages.
*God does this to keep us in Humility. When you have a different religious or political view, do you give into anger? do you assume to be right in your view? We are UNITED in that which comes from within "humility" not from the things of this world, such as politics or dotrine.
This is hard to understand you will need to ask God for help."who can truly understand God"
- Catholic with a capital "C" refers to Roman Catholics.
- catholic with a small "c" refers to universal.
If you haven't received the church's sacraments, and don't subscribe to the "C"atholic creed, you can't call yourself a "C"atholic because you don't have membership to the club :)
"you can't call yourself a "C"atholic because you don't have membership to the club :)"
If you are a baptized Christian, you are a member of the club, so to speak. This is why those entering the Catholic Church are not required to be "re-baptized". The spiritual truth demonstrated by our baptism brings all Christians into the catholic church.
Our sad divisions of creed lessen our corporate communion, but we *are* united in the death of the Lord.
I was just pointing out the difference in the gramma when typing "Catholic" as opposed to "catholic". There is a difference and when it's used in the wrong context it has a different implication.
I didn't intend to widen the gap :) but there can only be one truth right, and our journey is to discover that
Thank you. To empty ourselves of ourselves is, in a nutshell, what you advise. Let me not waste time, but pray in the time I have. Let me not need to be right, but humble myself and reconcile. Let me not go about my seemingly important agenda, but seek out the afflicted whom Christ has placed and will continue to place in my path. I imagine that Christ deliberately places the afflicted in my path. They cry out. He lovingly winks at me and, like the morning alarm clock, says, "Time for work."

So his early albums were tight, but then he sold out? This is the way that you discuss your faith? :-) You speak like a disillusioned record critic.
