My girlfriend flew on the Airbus just over a week after this crash from Brasil, I don't think could have. I used the Airbus in January to brasil, but I am never at ease for the whole journey.I hope they find the black box and that it solves some of the speculations and theories.

And the Its spelled BOEING not Boing, and Every airplane in the world uses Pitot tubes to measure airspeed, so a Boeing would have crashed as well. Airbus is safer than Boeing because it has computer systems to prevent pilot errors. So learn your damn facts before you talk shit about other countries that are better than you.

@Idaho278 The computer controlled fly by wire is an important safety feature which prevents most pilot errors, this crash was not caused by computer malfunction, but pitot tubes blockage by ice during thunderstorm. When pitot gets blocked by ice, it doesn't work. The pilot don't know how fast they're flying. Too fast it'll crash, too slow and it'll stall and also crash. It has nothing to do with the computer system or the manufacturer of the plane, a Boeing would have crashed as well.
@JundaComputersGmbH I think the only Boeing with fly-by-wire is the B777, and maybe now the B787 as well. How do they know it was icing? And if it was, why wasnt the pitot heat turned on, or was just to cold still maybe? Still, no Airbus for me, sorry.

The computer fly by wire is like Airbag in a car, without it a person can die in a crash, but it can also kill small children if deployed in a crash. Same with fly by wire, it can cause accident rarely but it prevents accidents almost most of the times. Most of you Americans seems to hate everything made by another country, without considering that it is better to have the fly by wire than not to have it.
@JundaComputersGmbH Countries have nothing to do with it. For years I thought Airbus was an American company. I dont know about you, but I dont trust computers at all. Electric everything is always failing, if they had a back-up, or second computer, maybe even emergency hydraulics, then it wouldnt bother me so much.

You can fly Airbus manually just like any hydraulic plane, pilots of AF447 just didnt react quickly enough or properly and because of that airspeed dropped and plane stalled, and it seems that they didnt handle stall like it should be done. Raising pitch when stalling is just making situation worse, in stall you need to lower the noce. Computers cant take over plane in emergencies, they just prevent pilot from overbanking and stalling it when speed data working.
@JundaComputersGmbH The pitot tubes feed airspeed information to the flight computers/auto pilot. I have a feeling that if the a/c was less computerised, in this case the pilots may have saved the day.

A Boeing without computer fly by wire can also crash with pitot tube blocked, look at Birgen Air 757 and Air Peru 757 crash, Birgen air had a wasp made a nest in the pitot tube, blocking it, while the Air Peru had a piece of tape covering it during cleaning and the worker forgot to remove the tape afterwards. Both 757 crashed in 1996 with everyone onboard killed, I wish scientists would invent a safer, more reliable way to measure airspeed instead of pitot
@JundaComputersGmbH I assumed wrongly that the computer had control of the a/c and it crashed because of the pitot tubes. The computer was not in control, and yes there could be a better arrangement instead of the pitot tubes, or a backup. I was thinking of the early airbus crash wwhere the computer would not increase power or something because of a glitch.
@mariamole011 So pilot can easily descend plane whenever they want just by disconnecting autopilot, and when something fails it does just the opposite, computer doesnt take control but it gives control to the pilot, they had full manual control.
By the way hydraulics planes are history, both Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 use fly by wire just like Airbus, thats why Boeing 777 has very good safety record.

I don't know if the distance is true, but it is in fact true that once a plane flying over the ocean leaves radar distance it is off until it crosses the ocean and gets picked up on radar across the ocean.. SCARY THOUGHT
But back to the investigations. A plane was flying right behind the AF 447 plane, about 30 minutes behind it and actually saw lights in the ocean. So I suppose that the pilors were not warned by the brazillian towers about the extreme weather conditions that was ahead, so they flew right into the storm, causing electric failure, loosing control, and falling down (all very fast and quick) about 2-4 minutes total. That's what I think happened.

It seems two different philosophies between Boeing and Airbus. One uses the pilot to fly the airplane and the computer to assist the pilot, the other vice versa. I like the first one. The recovered flight attendant seats are backed up against the wall showing it was not been used at the time of the crash. If any crewmember was seating there the seat and seatbelt would be ripped apart from the wall. So, the crew was working in the cabin. If there was turbulence, it was not enough to send them to their seats, what would otherwise be mandatory. So, breaking apart from turbulence as the main cause is off. But I so a very strange picture of a vertical stabilizer all by itself!

Icing of the Pitot tube (leading to over speed and breakup, although the Pilot has a deice (heat) switch for the pitot), catastrophic decompression, cargo door blowing up (leading to disintegration), terrorism (bomb), etc. We just cant let ´´the authorities`` give us the run around. They can try it hard, but we can make it harder.
And lets not forget the possibility of the vertical stabilizer been ripped off from the airplane ´´a la`` flight 587 (Airbus300) from American Airlines. It is another possibility! If the airplane lost its vertical stabilizer, the G forces in the cockpit issuing from this event would be tremendous. The airplane would loose control and break apart immediately. It is possible for a pilot to control an aircraft without the rudder but not without the whole assembly, rudder and vertical fin.
That is not a bad idea for transoceanic flights. For sure the problems related to recovering ´´black boxes`` are becoming ridiculous. At least floating, any satellite could pickup its signals and position.
Why don't they make the "black boxes" able to float?? Put the black box in a breakaway container that floats. Just seems like the logical thing to do. ...But I'm sure "they" would rather spend millions of dollars looking for one on the bottom of the ocean.

I'm french, and i saw on a news paper the reason why they aren't using satelites. They said the bottom of the ocean in those areas are very rough, and level images wouldn't reveal nothing. They wouldn't be able to recognise the shape of an aircraft there. And by the way, that would not help with anything, I think, the impact with the water at that speed did certainly ripped the plane appart (see the tail they found a couple of days ago).

Same with fly by wire, it can cause accident rarely but it prevents accidents almost most of the times. Most of you Americans seems to hate everything made by another country, without considering that it is better to have the fly by wire than not to have it.

Electric everything is always failing, if they had a back-up, or second computer, maybe even emergency hydraulics, then it wouldnt bother me so much.

but the computer didnt help, an all hidraulic type airplane woud not crash since all was need to do is to descent the aiplane to lower altitudes.

You can fly Airbus manually just like any hydraulic plane, pilots of AF447 just didnt react quickly enough or properly and because of that airspeed dropped and plane stalled, and it seems that they didnt handle stall like it should be done. Raising pitch when stalling is just making situation worse, in stall you need to lower the noce. Computers cant take over plane in emergencies, they just prevent pilot from overbanking and stalling it when speed data working.

@JundaComputersGmbH The pitot tubes feed airspeed information to the flight computers/auto pilot. I have a feeling that if the a/c was less computerised, in this case the pilots may have saved the day.

A Boeing without computer fly by wire can also crash with pitot tube blocked, look at Birgen Air 757 and Air Peru 757 crash, Birgen air had a wasp made a nest in the pitot tube, blocking it, while the Air Peru had a piece of tape covering it during cleaning and the worker forgot to remove the tape afterwards. Both 757 crashed in 1996 with everyone onboard killed, I wish scientists would invent a safer, more reliable way to measure airspeed instead of pitot

@JundaComputersGmbH I assumed wrongly that the computer had control of the a/c and it crashed because of the pitot tubes. The computer was not in control, and yes there could be a better arrangement instead of the pitot tubes, or a backup. I was thinking of the early airbus crash wwhere the computer would not increase power or something because of a glitch.

maybe the computer were fucked up, since they can take over the airplane in emergencies.
it would be easy to deal with this problem if the system were hydraulic like the boeing, . maybe boing is beeter airplane.

@mariamole011 So pilot can easily descend plane whenever they want just by disconnecting autopilot, and when something fails it does just the opposite, computer doesnt take control but it gives control to the pilot, they had full manual control.
By the way hydraulics planes are history, both Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 use fly by wire just like Airbus, thats why Boeing 777 has very good safety record.

many thanks for your proffessional opinion. Yes all modern airliners (JAA) have to have a AWR, the fact that they made a bad decision by electing to fly through the cell would have been pilot error. In my opinion all french pilots i have met are arrogant and think they know best. They refused to take lufthansa's advice and ultimately paid the price.

I don't know if the distance is true, but it is in fact true that once a plane flying over the ocean leaves radar distance it is off until it crosses the ocean and gets picked up on radar across the ocean.. SCARY THOUGHT

But back to the investigations. A plane was flying right behind the AF 447 plane, about 30 minutes behind it and actually saw lights in the ocean. So I suppose that the pilors were not warned by the brazillian towers about the extreme weather conditions that was ahead, so they flew right into the storm, causing electric failure, loosing control, and falling down (all very fast and quick) about 2-4 minutes total. That's what I think happened.

It seems two different philosophies between Boeing and Airbus. One uses the pilot to fly the airplane and the computer to assist the pilot, the other vice versa. I like the first one. I like to be driving a car and when I touch the brakes the cruise control disengages instead of keep speeding because it thinks I dont know what Im doing.

The recovered flight attendant seats are backed up against the wall showing it was not been used at the time of the crash. If any crewmember was seating there the seat and seatbelt would be ripped apart from the wall. So, the crew was working in the cabin. If there was turbulence, it was not enough to send them to their seats, what would otherwise be mandatory. So, breaking apart from turbulence as the main cause is off. But I so a very strange picture of a vertical stabilizer all by itself!

The WTC towers were built to implode, instead of topple over, in case of catastrophic failure.
Have you ever seen downtown Manhattan? The buildings are practically on top of each other. That is why the WTC was designed to do the least possible damage to the surrounding buildings, as possible.
Jets, laden with jet fuel, exploded inside of the towers, soaking the steel beams with jet fuel. Fires were intense & tons of building weight were above the crash zone, which crushed the weakened beams.

There are so many ifs and buts about the black box. GPS wouldnt work at such a big depth.... the only way they could do it is by the "pinger", I just hope they find it before the 30 days is up. The families deserve to know the reason why they lost their loved ones:( Air France certainly has a lot of explaining to do. R.I.P :(((((

jamesfallon23 We are open for different possibilities since we dont know what happen. For me, any occurrence that reasonably fits the event is a good possibility. Icing of the Pitot tube (leading to over speed and breakup, although the Pilot has a deice (heat) switch for the pitot), catastrophic decompression, cargo door blowing up (leading to disintegration), terrorism (bomb), etc. We just cant let ´´the authorities`` give us the run around. They can try it hard, but we can make it harder.

And lets not forget the possibility of the vertical stabilizer been ripped off from the airplane ´´a la`` flight 587 (Airbus300) from American Airlines. It is another possibility! If the airplane lost its vertical stabilizer, the G forces in the cockpit issuing from this event would be tremendous. The airplane would loose control and break apart immediately. It is possible for a pilot to control an aircraft without the rudder but not without the whole assembly, rudder and vertical fin.

That is not a bad idea for transoceanic flights. For sure the problems related to recovering ´´black boxes`` are becoming ridiculous. At least floating, any satellite could pickup its signals and position.

Why don't they make the "black boxes" able to float?? Put the black box in a breakaway container that floats. Just seems like the logical thing to do. ...But I'm sure "they" would rather spend millions of dollars looking for one on the bottom of the ocean.

if you make a black box that can float on water it could go anywhere and would be like looking for a needle in a haystack, at least when it goes straight to the bottom of the ocean they will have a rough idea where it is

I'd say the airspeed indictor caused the whole mess....the plane overspeed and stressed the whole airframe in turbulent weather to devastation... but who knows.RIP

It was terrorism, Air France is trying to cover it up the best it can. We dont' know this and we dont know that?? I mean, let get real here. An explosion and they know that's what caused the crash. They failed to protect its passengers.

What you know? The pilot never tried to contact anyone for whatever so critical was happening in the airplane. That means,... it was not happening anything unusual until the aircraft started to send, all by itself, messages of distress. Assumable, the aircraft had quickly crossed the boundaries of a regular flight to a doomed flight. I heard on the news that some twenty some days earlier Air France got a bomb treat in Argentina. So, whats the fuss about terrorism talk?

As buscas realizadas pela FAB tem programação para continuar até 19/06, até lá, caso for encontrados mais corpos será prorrogada até 25/06, porém não serão encerradas enquanto houver possibilidade de se encontrar destroços e corpos, porém a FAB deixou claro que a possibilidade de se encontrar todos os corpos é praticamente impossível.

The finding of the rudder as been one of the airplane´s first big chunk to be found floating on the ocean apply to my comment here about two days ago. Isnt it time for people to refuse to board planes with clear unsafe records?

I'm french, and i saw on a news paper the reason why they aren't using satelites. They said the bottom of the ocean in those areas are very rough, and level images wouldn't reveal nothing. They wouldn't be able to recognise the shape of an aircraft there. And by the way, that would not help with anything, I think, the impact with the water at that speed did certainly ripped the plane appart (see the tail they found a couple of days ago).

I jumped for joy at news of the crash air france flight 447. I love watching the plane sink to its watery grave. I enjoy hearing the passengers screaming for help. The sound of drowning passengers gasping for air is music to my ear. The bottom of atlantic ocean is a awesome place to sleep on. The moment the jet broke up in midair must have been a kodak moment. I'm disappointed that the death toll is so low. A bunch of bodies floating on the atlantic ocean would've been an awesome sight.

Christians believe that it was God who brought down Air France flight 447 in order to punish the passengers for something that did.
According to Christians, it does not matter that there were young children, elderly and even one baby on board since they believe that God had very good reasons for killing them anyhow.
It does not matter to Christians that a mother and her son died while the father was waiting for them to arrive in Paris along with their daughter.
