@firefightercharles some companies use a passport system as PAR. they have a velcro passport on their helmet and switch them in and out for alternate shifts or for PAR, but there are other reasons for having them

theres a map with alphabetical listings of streets in most fire trucks

you will get the address over the radio transmission/text message. there will also be a printout when a call comes through. most fire departments have a gps program on their trucks. not mapquest but a specialized program that has hydrants plotted in, and of course, addresses

They had to travel between 3-4 miles to get there. There were probably at least 3 engines that were closer.

i would not skip a structure fire for emt class. i think being on that type of run is a good enough excuse

same here, I joined the fire dept and then took emt class just to help out and i skipped emt class to fight fire, as we were told, you're a firefighter first lol

didn't quite sound like a Q to me. But if it was it was sticking real bad. Once in a while the brake will stick on a couple of ours and it won't coast nice. Ruins a good run when that happens.
