Trying to describe the seizures to the vet was hard so we videoed these. It turns out he has Canine Epileptoid Cramping Syndrome (CECS) aka Spike's Disease. We "had" a bag of high protein treats,we used to let our 18 mounth old give them to the dogs. well, he gave Zeus a LOT that afternoon and that is what triggered the CECS. No more high protein treats (we NEVER have given him table scraps which is also a trigger for dogs with CECS) and he has been sympton free ever since
Do not turn on lights when they have seizures when you have seizures your mind doesnt want to shut down so that way you use reverse psychology on it and shut them off or dim them so it has to fight to keep it up... Its like when you hold your breath and u pass out... Ur body finds a way to keep you alive... And if it thinks your gonna die by shutting the lights off it works faster and the seizures also get calmed down faster with the darkness
my lab dog did seizures made me freak out cry thought something wrong never see before then he walk close to me ..15 min later back normal ...he stay with me make him feel safe ..i did hear him growling ..just once after that stop .
thanks for posting this. my golden hs had 2 or 3 the past few years and we think she just ate something bad. also i heard that your not supposed to pet the dog when its seized cuz it could bite you because they loose control and instincts take over
My Jack Russell also has seizures like this. She doesn't have them often and it's usually when she has a full stomach../she always vomits, and then that's the end of the seizure. She's 12...she looks so scared when it happens. So hard to see it happening to them...poor little things.
my jack russel has these types of seizures... is it really a seizure, or did the dog eat something when we are not looking, or what? I notice that she gets that way when something "dramatic" happens; ie. that we do not let her back in the house right after shes done her business.
the dog just had a seizurer and please seizures are only suppose to last 1-2 minutes long and if his seizures last that long and hes 6 years old he might have a brain tumor so it would be a good idea to go to the vet and get an anti-cumbalsent
you are not supposed to touch the animal when it is seizing. it can trigger another seizure and also make it last a lot longer. so he did everything right. do NOT touch the animal when seizing, even though it is hard ♠
I have a 4 year old golden retriever that is 130 lbs and has worse seizures than I have seen on here and I have to touch him. I have to hold him down or he would injure himself from all the thrashing around. I also have to pry his mouth open and put a rolled up towel in hisback teeth so I can reach in and get his tongue out from the back of his throat so he can breeth. It is so horrifying to see him go thru this. My dog would die if I didnt help him. It is all I can do to get his mouth open.
ditto....my dog thrashes around very badly smashing his head into the concrete and i have to hold him also or he will smash his skull in. i cant even put anything under him coz he gets up and throws himself into things. ive not seen siezures on here half as bad as my zed gets them. poor bugger!
yeah zed had another seizure this morning, but they are not as bad nor as frequent now that hes on the phenobarbatol....but i still had to hold him down so that he didnt go running about thrashing into things. he only has them after long periods of sleep (like early in the morning). i think this is strange !!!
@AllieAmore at the time though the vet may not have told them not to touch it and i know it may trigger another one but as i said they may not have known...

What test did you have done to find this out? My Golden has the worst seizure I have ever seen from all these videos and lasts around 5 minutes. I have him on Phinabarbtol and it seams to be working.
@MillerMonteSS wow, i think thats what my dog might have. first she would start whimpering, then she will crawl in my lap. i would support her neck (to prevent her from hurting herself) and rub her back. then she would start violently seizing . after about 10 minutes. she would go over to her bed, vomit, then she would lay down for a period of time, then she would be as good as new. i think this is from us giving her lots of treats at one time. cus i remember giving her 3 cookies today.
Thats sad and all.. but I wouldnt exactly call that a siezure... isnt a siezure when your shaking.. violently.. your whole body? I Hope he gets better soon I'm so sorry for your doggie! :( hes a cutie.

Guess it's better for the dog to leave him/her alone instead of walking in front of him/her and put the light(s) on. At least comfort him/her.
