  • I thought this originated with WJAC channel 6 of Johnstown, Pennsylvania (originally channel 13), since my parents can attest to seeing this since when they first got a TV. WJAC might have been one of the few stations it was distributed to.

  • This was produced for television by UPA in 1954, and supervised by the same director responsible for "Gerald McBoing Boing" three years before, Robert Cannon.

  • This is PRICELESS! I'm sure that anybody who was a kid in the 60s and 70s will agree!

  • please excuse me when i say this, but frosty scares the crap outta me in this video. he looks scary in black and white!

  • This short is a classic. Years ago, my family got a DVD that included "Suzy Snowflake" and "Hardrock, Coco, and Joe," but not "Frosty." I wonder why.

  • Good day

Nice to get to watch the Original!

    I like the song..

I have heard of it only but never saw before

  • They showed this Hardrock Coco and Joe and Suzy Snowflake every year till Frazier Thomas died in 85. I was one of the last kids to see these. Quite special times!! WGN is weird like that with oh gee dont show the Bozo Circus/Show Ray Raynor or Garfield Goose I'd love to know my guess (and its only a guess) is because then we'd (the public) would have to go to where the display is at the Museum of Broadcasting!

  • Thank you for a great memory!

  • @bdwbvca You're Welcome

  • This is my all time favorite version of Frosty the Snowman.

  • Oh I love this cartoon of Frosty! I grew up in the early 60's but in Northern California so I never had the delight of seeing this until just now. It's too bad it's so short but it's adorable. I just came upon this by accident. Thanks for posting this for those of us who were lucky enough to have seen it as children and for the rest of us who are seeing this for the first time!

  • Notice, no instruments. Great!

  • I met the foley artist for this video at a cocktail party last year and he kept gargling his manhattan at everyone for laughs. I believe he passed away shortly thereafter.

  • @KrisForges Sounds like a kool guy to have known. God bless him.

  • The Rankin-Bass Frosty is better...

  • WOW, what great memories this brings out.

WGN was a GREAT station back in those days.

  • Yes brings back memories when life was better Ray Raynor awesome kids today don't know TV except a place you play video games! I Remember they sold Christmas calendar on Ray Raynor that was so cool!

  • what nice memories this brings back, saw this and suzy snowflake the other morning on WJAC TV news. I miss the good old days.

  • Table of Contents

  • This was often played as a between show filler by WSPD TV in Toledo when I wa a kid in the 50's. It alternated with Susie Snowflake.

  • This is a great memory from when WGN was a real superstation. Thanks for uploading. Take it easy.

  • They still show this on our local news network along with Suzy Snowflake and Hardrock, Coco, and Joe. Even now, at least when I come home from college for Christmas break, my mom and I drop everything just to watch them. I may only be 20, but even I can recognize how wonderful these shorts are.

  • Ray Raynor first thing in the morning on a B&W TV was the best. Feel bad for kids stuck with the crap they pump out these days.

  • @webattorney. Man I'm 14 and I'm obsessed with everything classic. I wish I could've lived when this was in it's hayday. I try to tell my friends about these and they're like "Thats so gay, dude".

  • @Moviewhiz1 Don't worry about them , you are what is called "PRECOCIOUS". Intelligence way above your natural years! Any one who says gay is immature to use that word in that context. YOU RULE young man! BE KOOL!

  • @ghostlooker. Have a Merry Christmas, brother. Be safe and spend time with those who love you and vice-versa.

  • thanks for the info! will try to find the library and order FROSTY!!!!!!! love that song!!!!!

  • This is my absolutely favorite version of this song. The wonderful close harmony singing style of the 40's with the jazzy chords delights me every time! About 10 years ago Channel 9 was broadcasting it (obviously one of the delicate film originals) when it caught on fire in the projector. Quite alarming--it looked like the TV was on fire! I haven't seen it on Channel 9 since. Glad you have it here. Thanks very much for posting!

  • ahhh the memories of growing up in johnstown pa and watching this suzy snowflake and hardrock coco and joe on wjactv!!!!!!

  • wish i could find some of the old garfield goose tapes--they were awesome!!!

  • @moon444 I just saw on the wgn channel that some library in chigago remastered some of those old shows on dvd for sale -check it out online!!!

  • @northernlitez1 what i heard they remastered it becous becouse all 3 became so warn out to the point where they couldn't be shown. but i am verry happy that they remastered the 3 becous there part of tv history.

  • I used to watch this quite regular on WGN-TV channel 9 with Ray Rayner and friends along with Frazier Thomas. I was from Winnetka, Ilinois.

Sometimes I would stay home and watch T.V. all day.

  • I did the same thing TOMCATSFRONTIER01, I would close the curtains , and sit on the couch and watch t.v. all day, until my Grandma comes in the frontroom and catches me !! HAHA!! I miss her, and those days !!!!

  • ChicagoKidsTV forever !!!!

  • I live in Western Maryland, but we have gotten WGN for many years on cable. I remember Bozo, Harry Carry, and Family Classics with Frazier Thomas.

One of the people that wrote Frosty is from about 2 miles from here.

    Cheers!!

  • Grew up in Ottawa, Illinois and remember all these cartoons in the mid to late 60s on Garfield Goose with Frazier Thomas before going to school. I miss them and Family Classics with the same host.

  • OMG, I was very young when i saw these......I watched these at my home in Highland Ind.... Hmmmm?

Thanks for the blast from the past!

  • Yeah, all of those guys, plus the late 60's & 70's BOZO !!! Loved him !!

  • Thanks BadNews88, I watch this, Suzysnowflake, and Hardrock,Coco, and Joe everyday and dream that I was back in my Grandma's living room on Prairie ave. in the 60's & 70's !!! I can hear Frasier Thomas, and Ray Rayner talking now, just like I was there !!!

  • This was my mom's childhood!

  • bigfinewomen i know what you meant. i took no offense. just adding some pgh. trivia. nollaig shona Dhiut! which in irish means happy Christmas to you. and a happy new year to you and yours. drohegda

  • And a nollaig shona Dhiut to you too, Drohegda!!! I'm not irish...however, I can return the same greeting to you!!!

**doing my Frosty the Snowman dance here in Western PA**

  • Not as scary as the other historic B+W Xmas cartoons.

  • ancient pagan ceremony at 23

  • Cute.

  • it was exactly as it was on TV but in Black and White

  • Frosty..........the original PedoBEAR!! LOL

  • Note to ksol1460, 4687878, & HiddenScholar:

    Happy Christmas to ALL!

  • @BadNews88 Amen, BadNews88.

  • yep I remember the times WJAC would play this and suzy snowflake!

  • Nice version of Frosty the Snowman!

Of course in the original story when the song was thought up, Frosty didn't like go to the North Pole, he melted away. The point about him being back someday is he'll be back when the snow falls and when the children build him again.

  • this really is jamming!! If they had show this on Stations out of Pittsburgh, I know me and myf riends would have tried to imitate those kids dancing around!!!

  • what about WQED television station. first public broadcasting station and the home of the show Mr. Rodgers neighborhood.

  • Oh my goodness...WQED was great!!! However, none of the local affiliates in Pittsburgh carried this or any other Christmas shows like tihs one. I just viewed "Suzy Snowflake" and was thrilled.

  • @bigfinewoman

the Pittsburgh stations didn't play these, but WJAC-TV (Channel 6) Johnstown always did. I grew up on Suzy Snowflake, Hardrock, Coco and Joe; and this Frosty during the Christmas season.

  • I Love this video as a Kid in the 1960s, this song was so Jazzy. I Love Chicago, IL. Merry Xmas.

  • Frosty, Hardrock, Coco and Joe, and Susy Snowflake were available on DVD at Amazon. I bought my sister a copy two years ago and she loved it. It was a time machine to our christmas's in the 60's

  • just in case anyone is wondering, it realy starts a 0:18

  • The originals are always the best. Brings back Christmas memories from the 60's.

  • that really grooves - those singers were really talented

  • Memories of Garfield Goose, WGN-TV, and Chicago.

  • WJAC Channel 6 in Johnstown, PA always played Frosty, Suzy Snowflake, & Hardrock, Coco, & Joe during December every year.

  • I remember that so well. I lived in Elk County, PA and I LOVED them!

  • wow....i couldn't get WJAC in western PA until we got Cable....I loved WJAC's logo...Serving Millions from Atop the Alleghenies!!

  • It just wouldn't be Christmas without these old videos.

  • I remember watching these on a snowy morning waiting for the closed school report to come in.

  • 2:25

  • @bubblegum1998 LOL!

  • i konw

  • That's back in the days when WGN was awesome! Great Days.

  • I could never forget this cartoon when I was a little boy watching Garfield Goose during Christmas time. Wow! This brings back sweet memories.

  • We're in Chicago having a good time! We're all watching Channel 9!

Thank you for putting these up. HOLY COW, I miss Harry!!!

  • Somedays I wish I could go back to when I was a kid watching old Ray Raynor & Garfield Goose with Frazier Thomas!!!! I miss those days in Chicago!! " SLIM"

  • Me too.

  • @4687878 Have any ideas on how I can get to see old "Garfield Goose" episodes? I tried Youtube, but I could find any to watch. I am 54 years old and I still remember many episodes. My favorite was when Romburg Rabbit snuck behind Frazier Thomas as Frazier was reading a riddle. He would then quietly whisper the answer to Garfield Goose. "Garfield Goose" was my favorite show. I'd get a real blast watching it again.

  • @Tony63909 I hope someday they put Garfield Goose, Ray Rayner, and the old Bozo's Circus back on the air, or at least sell the dvd's of all of them in their entirety !!! I don't remember that specific one, because I was a little younger (1961), but I loved the sound of that flapping beak !!!!!

  • @4687878 If you ever hear that the old episodes are on the market, please let me know. "Bozos Circus" was also great. You might not remember him because you are younger, but my favorite Bozo was Bob Bell. He was something special with kids. I work for the CTA and love kids. To this day I don't ask them ,"How old are you?". I always ask."How many fingers old are you?" That was the kind of influence Ned Locke, the Ring Master, had on me.

  • @Tony63909 To me the only Bozo was Bob Bell, and I was born in 1961.

Mr. Ned was very cool, and I watched Bozo everyday, but WGN doesn't want to release those old shows to the public for, some reason !!

  • @Tony63909 I so agree with you... in going thru my video tapes,I found a WGN Special with Ray Rayner, Garfield Goose and Friends... Bozo and Ring Master Ned, Frazier Thomas and Family Classics and of course these 3 B/W cartoons that are so firmly embedded in my head... never to be forgotten... I am glad someone else has the same fond memories...

  • @Tony63909 Bob Bell ROCKED! I loved how the clowns were real mellow and not frantic..just regular Chicago guys who just happened to be clowns...Bob had a lot of jobs around WGN, as I remember..a real Man For All Seasons! Thank you for sharing your memories and so glad you are there for the kids on the CTA!<3

  • @sallythewerewolf I was deeply moved by your post.Kids are the world to me. I love them soooo much. If you ever need a ride on CTA, stop by the Damen/Milwaukee Blue line train station and say hello. GOD BLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Tony63909 I sure will! Two of my kids are autistic and people who are gentle and patient mean SO much! You are a true Santa Claus, Tony, and I love to think of all the wonderful memories you're giving lots and lots of kids (and their often-frazzled parents!:)) I'll look you up next time I'm in my home city of Chicago! xxx

  • southside of Chicago; born in 1961 & loved this every Christmas!! thankyou!!
