The comments of "fruitofspirit" reminded me of "With A Song in My Heart," the life story of Jane Froman; yes, I agree she could make just about any music she did sound wonderful! I have always loved the song, "Goin' Home!" Thank you for presenting Jane to us. Liz
Even as a long-time admirer of Jane Froman, and lover of her music, I find this to be truly incomparable, unforgettable!(after viewing and listening many, many times!)
The actress who sang "Goin' Home" in "The Snake Pit," was Jan Clayton, who was Julie Jordan in "Carousel" and later became famous as the mother of Lassie's owner in the T.V. series. Jan also starred as Magnolia in the London revival of "Show Boat" and Oscar Hammerstein Jr. wrote for her a new song, "Lucky To Be Me."
this song reminds that the mutual radio network's coverage of president kennedy's assination news coverage. it brings back memories and makes cry. great performance!!!!!****ROGHARM
Che bellissima musica ! I have always loved this piece which is actually the famous 'Largo' from Dvorak's 9th Symphony. And Miss Froman does indeed have a wonderful contralto voice.Bravo Jane !
In the mid-1960s I flew for a week with John Burn, Miss Froman's second husband. They were divorced by then, but he told many lovely stories of her and their years together. I don't know the reason for their divorce, but it certainly wasn't unfriendly on his part.
I saw "With a Song in My Heart" the day after it opened it New York. Froman and Burn had been to the opening on a Wednesday, I saw it on Thursday with my girl friend - later my wife for 53 years! - and on that same day Burn
Beautiful voice and inspirational woman. Just stayed up way too late watching "With A Song In My Heart". What a wonderful tribute to this talented woman.
I first heard this in the old movie the Snake Pit, one of my all time favorite's. I love the way the girl in the movie sang it. I think sometimes when we first hear a song and like it no one else's version quite sounds right. I think the one in the movie was a little faster. If anyone has the movie please post the song. When I die this is the song I want played. I think of my parents and I know their waiting there.
This is also an impressive version of the song. I first heard it on an oldie film flashback on TV by Deanna Durbin. Thanks for letting us know where this masterpiece originated.
the melody of this song is an old Scottish tune brought to the US by the Scots-irish immigrants, adapted by American slaves into a spiritual, picked up by Dvorak while living here, put into his New World Symphony. Full circle!

I meant to say that Dvorak's symphony #9 was largely based on Negro spirituals. Not the other way around. Going home is the main theme of this glorious symphony of the new world. Negro was a politically correct term in those days.
I'm Belgian and stumbled upon this clip. I never heard of Ms. Froman before but will certainly do some research on her. Such a wonderfully rich voice and what a beautiful appearance!
Circasurvive: Paul wouldn't mind being referred to as Negro since that was the term used in those days. So in the context tenderness used it, I would agree it is appropriate. Of course currently, African-American or Black is O.K. Me! I prefer Black!
Thanks for uploading this video. Truly beautiful. The best version available.

Most beautiful presentation of "Goin' Home" I have ever seen and heard. Beautiful lady, beautiful voice.

This lady had a lovely voice. I fear that she too was underrated in her own time.
there's great quality if not quantity in that voice.

Lawrence Tibbett is the best on this song. Robeson and Jane Froman are very close runners up. What a fantastic song this is.

Reminds me of Lisa Stansbury!
She has "Black" Articulations, without a Black voice, like Mariah Carey has!
GOIN HOME articulates PAUL ROBESON
and NEGRO SPIRITUALS. and vice versa..

It was also the background track on a documentary about the Titanic. Very moving, in that context.

Yes I have heard this by Mr. Robeson! He, like Jane Froman, was such a brave person with lots of adversity in his life.
