true story: i was looking at a website yesterday that had coloured rectangular links down the left hand side. somehow this gave me a flashback of a musical toy i had had as a kid. i spent an hour flicking through old photos until i found one where it is lying next to me. lucking mine had stickers on the front. "magical musical thing" at the speaker end, and the mattel logo at the other.
It is the "Musical Magical Thing". I just found mine while cleaning out the attic. Put a 9volt in and it sounds alot better than yours, maybe you need to get the speaker replaced. I still have the book as well.
Rub it back and forth on your head to get a bunch of notes heard in synthesizer exercise.
