  • Anyone have any ideas how to reinstall the guard at the back, I took i toff to change the handle and teh spring won't go back, can't remove the metal rod?

  • I have a Victa, the other day I was turning the fuel tap off after use and the tap actually came out of it's mounting, the whole yellow (red on the commando) tap part.

It goes back in and feels quite secure but now i'm a bit worried about using it due to the hazard of fuel spilling while it's running.

Is the tap part supposed to come out when pulled?

  • @richandiben the whole tap and fuel filter will screw in and out of the tank. the "handle" of the tap shouldnt come out they are pretty cheap to replace if you are worried about it.

  • Thank you again Geoff 390. It accelerates/works like a new one after following your advice the first time. You are providing excellent advice, OVER 9000 HITS ON YOUR VIDEO! good on you mate. Do you know if anyone has the Victa 2 stroke workshop manual on cd or as a pdf file? It seems to me that all 160cc Victas are the same with different paint jobs and names for different shops but basically they haven't changed much in the last 15 years. Nothing like seeing you demonstrate how to do it.

  • @bigkev2257 thanks, i have the repair books from ebay. Most librarys also have the repair manuals.

  • Thank you Geoff 390. I have a Victa 160cc, 2 stroke Corvette, cost me $170 to have it repaired last time, floored me when I got the bill, this time I followed your video. Great mate it worked for me. However I cannot turn the mower off, I turn fuel off and let it run out of fuel in the carby to stop it. Kill switch on this model is two brass poles, is there a special way they connect to the carby? when I turn it "off" the motor increases revs.

  • @bigkev2257 WHOA 170, all they would have dont is clean the dam thing! there isnt a special way but one does have to do straight in and the other across, replace both the rubber pieces and you should be good, when you put them in the carby have the throttle on 1/2.

  • How do you get the cover of - I can't find a spanner that fits

  • @jonblaz1 the orange cover is only held on by 3 phillips screws, no spanner required.

  • Comment removed

  • @geoff390 Mine's a corvette and no phillips screws

  • @jonblaz1 ummmm iv never needed any special tools to remove cowls. do you have both metric and imperial 1/4inch drive sockets?? there should be one that fits.

  • Thank you for making this video. I found it very helpful. Cheers :)

  • thanks very much man, i just fixed my mower looking at your vid..

    cheers

  • that thing is called a boot

  • i have the sema engine, but i cant get the flywheel off, the blade plate has rusted off. i got the nut un-done, but now theres a big steel spacer that wont come off, does it screw off . or so i need to use the puller and some elbow grease? its rusty as hell

  • I think the space you talk of is on a tapered shaft so you will need a wheel puller, elbow grease, wd-40 and possibly even a blow torch to heat it up.

  • AHHHHH NOOO, i was wantingt to use this engine for a minibike

  • @geoff390

Don't use a blow torch on a flywheel

99 out of 100 times you will not have a problem. Especialy with iron you risk causing cracks from uneven thermal expansion..

  • @northerbrewer Dont quite know where in this video i said to use it but anyway.

sometimes to get the bottom nut off it helps to heat it up, it ruins the nut because the nylon melts but there pretty easy to get spares.

  • Thanks Geoff!

2 days before watching this I tried to fix my Victa Vantage with no success. I half assed tried to clean the carby but after seeing this I realised that I needed to do it properly - so I did. Your pointer about the arrows being on the parts to show how they fit in the right way excellent. Turns out I had the primer bit on upside down lol. Thanks again ;-)

  • Nice work - I've never got the patience to make these instructional videos, but I like to bring back old blue 1970s Rover mowers back from the dead. Often they've been discarded due to simple easy-to-fix problem.

Couple of things, I think the Victa carby mount could be best described as a "bayonet" mount, similar to a lightglobe. Also the diaphragm on the back of the carby I think either regulates engine speed under load (lifts the revs a bit when

  • cutting tall grass) or prevents the engine from over-revving (low vacuum). A governer of sorts.

I'm on winter break at he moment (its cold here in Melb) but will get into more Rovers over he summer.

  • Thanks. I also think its like a govenor. I think you are correct in saying its best decribed as a bayonet fitting.

  • Interesting Geoff. I'd like to see the next part :)

  • The second part was uploading at the same time as this one. It uploaded i got the embed code but that wsa last night.

    Well ill upload it today.
