  • This is one hell of a futuristic rock performance... Wakeman was cool in his mystical, cape-wielding way, after all he played way different stuff to fit with YES' songs. Emerson is just an explosion of energy and insanity. I gotta admit I was impressed by his energy on this performance.

  • i kept waiting Blackmore's solo...

  • fat cat in ecstasy

  • Well, K.E. knows enough to quote the greats in his solos.....Bach, Brubeck....and he knows what sells!

  • 2:15 its begging for mercy

  • Insane?! This is only a spetacle... and just great!

  • Talk about the complete opposite from Tony Banks

  • When did Chuck Norris start playing the keyboards?

  • I didn't know Will Ferrell was this good on a keyboard.

  • @stagaz90 More like John C. Reilly

  • ¯\(°_o)/¯ Hey at least he didn't set it on fire

  • 4:18

    can't... handle... awesomeness...

  • Well, he's no Jordan Rudess. But christ, he's good.

  • keith emerson is definetly the greatest key board artist in the world. i feel blessed to grow up in his musical carrier and enjoy his music.

  • this dude has very likely broke a few hammonds. He's sick though :)

  • take 6?

  • Best on keyboards. Not just my opinion.

  • @WontReadReply I don't think it's opinion. I think it's FACT

  • What a clot.

  • freak :) GOOOD!

  • If only he'd go a step further and shit over the keyboard he could be the g.g allin of the Hammond organ.

  • @mugwamp4 Lool.

Thats what I was thinking, man.

Him and GG should have done a few gigs.

    lol

  • To be honost, you do not need to be a super player, at playing what he does. It is a showman nonetheless if you like to see a lunatic play.

Makes one wonder, what would happen if we would give a nice hammond to a lunatic on the looney bin rofl

    Way to go keith !

  • rick wakeman seriously mops the floor with emerson. so does jordan rudess.

  • hook him up with chals manson in jail

  • Психопат какой-то

  • i wonder who took his hat

  • My dad almost ruined a Hammond trying all the things Keith does, but 40 years later, it STILL PLAYS! I'm a guitar player, but I want to learn some piano stuff as well, and this stuff would be epic to just jam on... I like Greg Lake's acoustic songs as well, Lucky Man will make its way into our set soon, but nobody will ever sing it like Greg... and Carl Palmer is an amazing drummer, few others can mix his speed and/or his technique... Welcome Back My Friends, To The Show That Never Ends!!!

  • what's the date & location of this show... ne1 know?

  • ....Keith Emerson is now, without a doubt, the most incredible, be it, innovative, yet slightly insane keyboardist I have ever heard or seen. If he can do a solo while looking like he's completely lost his mind & look cool doing it, that's a real showman. I'm a fusion/progressive bassist & I can get lost in my solos, but DAMN!!! This is the best. :)

  • i wonder what goes through the minds of carl and greg during these solos

  • Emerson gives the term "organ grinder" a new meaning

  • He's the Hendricks of the keyboard!

  • The Hendricks of the keyboard!

  • What he's done to that organ... I wanna do it to someone's mother one day.

  • @FtKiVeR stab and stand on them?

  • 1.45 - 1.56 anybody feel the bees?

  • rondo

  • Before doing music in bands, he worked in a furniture factory...he was thrown out after two hours.

  • In one sense pathetic....but also fascinating.

  • Yeah, Keith Emerson is my keyboard hero. We have a lot in common, except, he can play better than me. I think he is stronger, too.

  • i lk elp.. but wtf hes acting lk a douche...

  • I was there! Amazing concert! Watch for Keith getting his cap taken off his head!

  • I showed this to a 15 year old friend of the family who is learning keyboards and thought boring cold play is all that there is. I said this is how it was done back in the day! His eyes popped clear out of his head and he was speechless! Long live Emerson..and Wakeman too, of course!!!

  • 0.43 sounds like final fantasy 7 music

  • @Bojangulz87 It's "Blue Rondo A La Turk" in 4/4 :)

  • Dire que j'ai vu ça gamin... Sûrement en ai je gardé quelques séquelles.... yek yek...

  • AMAZING!!!! i' m sorry for 21 people that miss the like button....ELP RULEZ

  • херня!!!!!!!

  • The demise of prog.

  • The man had no horse, so he ride the Hammond... Great scene and great performer!

  • like watching hendrix playin guitar on his teeth

  • Looks like he's cracking up. I wonder if it's only spectacle.

  • Emerson was always better than wakeman! Wakeman was cool but ELP had balls yes was just lets drop acid and see if we can play this shit lol. Love em both but ELP is the way for me

  • @himester666 they both are great keyboardist, but their way of playing music are not the same. It's not some thing that should be compared

  • @napalmpotter I concur about that but Emerson has always seemed more technical... He even did a complete Solo Piano album(not easy) Im studying classical performance in college but have been playing in bars and clubs doing jazz and rock and really just everything session and wakeman stuff and can just play with a listen or too but emerson is usually some serious time.... but yes both great.... Props to Emerson tho for NOT wearing a cape ;)

  • Cocaine's really bad for you.

  • @ontherush77 In the words of the late Rick James; "Cocaine's a hell of a drug".lol

  • Man, It's like Rick Wakeman is his left hand and Jordan Rudess is his right... then you increase the speed by tenfold!... and then you include the stabbing of a mini-hammond!

  • blUE rONDO

  • The most amazing keyboard solo ever documented :P

  • eso es musica??¿?

si lo fuera talves seria la de un circo psicotico o algo asi

  • @kimeraSCrEMOtional Vete a comer mierda con sangre

  • RONDOOOOO

  • I wonder if he got his hat back?

  • omg i feel sorry for that poor hammond organ :( didnt make it any less cool tho , but then i cringe whenever someone smashes a strat too.

  • This guy must be such a cunt.

  • haha i love how he spraypainted the wall. so much is goin gon this performance

    metal clothes

    gymnastic athleticism

    hip hop-ish grafitti (lol)

and of course PROG MUSIC :D

  • hammond enemy #1

    wanted dead or alive

  • Lets ride a Hammond

  • to all the haters: watch the video by Keith Emerson titled Improvisation (live at california jam). HES REALLY GOOD.

  • This guy is a piece of shit compared to Jordan Rudess. How could people list him as the #1 keyboardist!??!?!!?

  • @brandoncharleschew

As he was THE pioneer in playing and composing prog rock on keyboards. He was the far better jazz improviser and is the far better composer. Rudess is a very good one of course, but an epigone.

You should not forget: this is not the Emerson of about 30 years ago. His right hand is badly handicapped. So please be fair.

  • Lordy,thanks for this vid!

  • What a geek!

  • I LOVE this stuff!! LOL I bet Lauren Hammond would have flipped his hair if he could hear what Keith could do with his invention!!

  • Rick Wakeman to me was a master pianist this guy is silly comedy stand up.

  • jacket is badass!

  • emmerson is a one to the best pianist ever..

  • Awesome. Seen them live once and after the show i went to the stage too see his monster moog up close. Offcourse Keith just ended the show destroying the hammond. Could see the wood was repaired many times. Soo funny, beacuse

the outside was covered with plasters. If im right it was during the 1992 world tour.

  • Whoa, Daddy! That's some angst!!!!!

  • Somebody get this man some nookie! :-) *****+

  • he plays blue rondo a la turk from dave brubeck in his solo

  • go Keith fuck yea!!!!

  • silly white man..

  • A bit like space trucking ain't it...

  • now that is called keyboard wanking!

  • what...a...f*cking...douche!

  • i was very lucky, saw ELP several times, saw the flying piano too,i was stoned to the bone every time. good memories

  • Love how bored Keith's left hands seems. And by his "left hand," I mean Greg Lake.

  • he acts just like a typical finnish crack-head heavymetallist (on a trip) but

    plays way better :D

  • which year is that?

  • Best you'll ever see right here

  • Keith, você é o melhor do mundo.

    Eu amo sua musica.

    Tudo de melhor para você.

    From Brasil.

  • That's pretty Spinal Tap.

  • Emerson es mi favo Beatle.

  • Bach for dessert but Brubeck's Rondo for starters

  • Ya gotta love the effect of bashing around the spring reverb !

  • but 4:53 makes me want to cry and my heart hurt.

  • he is a fckin psycho :) true organ-rapist :)

  • este charly garica se queda corto

  • Keith emerson is the man ..

  • Emerson was truly the Hendrix of keyboards both in experimentation and virtuosity. Which brings me to the thought of "What if we could have seen a show of the fantasy supergroup Emerson Hendrix and Moon" ? Now that would have been a show!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In Emerson's autobiography, "Pictures of an Exhibitionist", he reprints a letter of appreciation sent to him by the president of the Hammond Organ company. It is a good read.

  • oh my god. This man is a nut, but a nut with an incredible amount of musical talent.

  • If I had worked at the hammond factory, I'd have showed up on this clown's doorstep with a cricket bat.

  • No shit

  • Know for sure the ´hammond factoy´was very pleased with Emerson putting their equipment in the centre of progrock.

  • That's like saying Abraham Lincoln was pleased with John Wilkes Booth putting him in the spotlight. Hammond was doing just fine before Keith Emerson. I've built guitars for a living, and I know how I'd feel watching some assclown smash up, for no better reason than to impress a bunch of morons who are impressed by smashing things, an instrument that my colleagues and I had put hundreds of hours into making perfect and beautiful.

  • Respect, but without tormenting the innstrument, Keith would not have accomplished this astonishing, nearly perfect and realy beautiful music. H brings the hammond to life in a way perhaps Obama did Lincoln again? Xuse me I'm Dutch

  • You're such a 'beutiful moron' (I love you, 'sophisticates', Booth up my arrrrse). It's not the same as Hendrix and co. smashing a guitar for NO reason AFTER the concert. If you don't get that, go back to... "whatever your normal is". Just stay away from prog rock, you definitely dont belong here.

  • It was for Salguine. Ditto to juulbrie.

  • @Salguine ...and he would have shoved it up your arse... hopefully...!!

  • @noddyspuncture Not likely. He doesn't seem the type to abuse things that hit back.

  • Quelle merde

  • omfg...i never knew it was possible to play the keyboard with stage prescence...he is A GOD people

  • I remember many early shows wih ELP and that same Hammond solo. Emerson is still my hero.

  • This is Keith Emerson alone that plays a suite of old musics, from Nice to EL&P to Bach.

But he is old (sixtyfive, to be more exact), and his music and scenes on the stage are even older. He made almost the same "clowneries" in Picture at An Exibition (1971). I didn't like it at that time, imagine now!

  • this was the nice no? not elp

  • Wow, he must be tripping. MY EARS ARE FREAKING OUT

  • I love Keith Emerson's solos!! He's just amazing!!

  • I believe it is an "L"......L 100

  • Death of an organ...that B3 didn't stand a chance!

First time I've ever heard Toccata and Fugue played upside down by a man literally being crushed by the instrument.

  • Not a B3. It's a Hammond M or L model. Quite a bit smaller than a B. Still very heavy though.

  • Also the last.... lol

  • there`s a boring way of play, and there`s the Emerson`s way.

    5/5

sorry if my english is incorrect.

    bye from América del Sur

  • i love how the other members of the band are just sitting there with their thumbs up their asses...

  • Could you imagine being in the front in that audience? Having Keith Emerson doing all that crazy shit RIGHT THERE! God, they need to go back on tour.

  • LOL

  • Keith was a punk rock pianist, and more!

  • Funny. I agree with you, but most punk rockers absolutely hate the man and burn his effigy in concert.

  • Comment removed

  • Emerson is god.

  • great performance! every time I hear it i fell into some kind of trance :D

  • fall* :)

  • mad mad mad mad...

  • Emeroson is a VERY MAD man! HAHAHAHHA :) ELP RULES!!!

  • When Keith was growing up, his mother had to keep him away from the furniture.

  • it's amazing that that organ is still functioning after years of abuse and stabbing

  • LOL stabbing. Literally. Keith the pirate keyboardist.

  • He's actually gone through several. One is on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame museum, donated after it ceased to function.

  • Quick nurse, the screens!

Actually isn't that musical instrument abuse? Maybe someone should call a social worker....

  • WOW! Emerson's MAD!!! :P

  • RONDO rules and so does EMO

  • good music, but the image of this video... not so great

  • Why the Graffiti?.. I mean.. did he forget their name? I love them but not this 90's"new wave" style.. btw respect for the greatest :)

  • The best one rock keyboardist in the world! Nothing more and nothing less! Jon Lord was a good musician, but not a real totally keyboards player like Keith: Keith Emerson was a great piano player and composer too. (sorry for my english, I'm italian and I'm tired and don't wanna write with dictionary auxilium...). Keith was a "GENIUS"! Some other too. Not Lord, not Wakeman! What about me? Yes!!! :-)

  • hes plays blue rondo a la turk by dave brubeck

  • my god! it was the flight of the bumble bee at 1:46!!!

  • What a terrible drums' sound! Palmer seems to have a metal bass drum tuning in this vid

    Still great through the years

  • wow

  • Hell. Yes.

  • scratch that....just saw Rolly Polly Lake.....

  • This is from a NICE show.....right??

  • What tour was this from?

  • they did this on the Black Moon Tour 1992. I was there in Houston, TX!!

  • This is from the Royal Albert Hall concert in 1996.

  • ...let me know the next time Jon "one handed wonder" Lord or Rick "may I have a turn, Mr. Howe" Wakeman lead a band as Keith Emerson did...

  • LOL - totally agree!!!

  • eternalcolonel,

I dont' think you have to diss Jon Lord to still respect Keith Emerson! I happen to like them both.

Might I add that what Jon Lord did required wicked monophonic work where a strong lefthand wasn't necessary. He wasn't playing Bach many times, and he had Glover on bass and Blackmore to comp chords to back him. Bach counterpoint on organ is not always the object of good rock and roll keyboard.

  • From what I've seen, Wakeman seems to be a cleaner player, and I just happen to like what he plays more. There's no denying Keith's abilities, however. Claudio Simonetti is still the best, I can't believe you guys always leave him out.

  • how can he be so hyped over a piano

  • I don't see a piano

  • i swaer at the beggining theres a key board

  • It was on a rotating riser so everything is behind that "brick" wall.

  • Keith is probably the best Keyboardist of all time, if not a close second to Jon Lord or Wakeman (take ur pick), but I reckon that Jon Lord is probably the King of the Hammond Organ, the sound that he can still get out of it at his age is Amazing.

    MY top 3:

    1.)Jon Lord

    2.)Keith Emerson

    3.)Rick Wakeman

  • my top 3

    1.) emerson

    2..) emerson & Lake

    3...)emerson, lake & palmer

    4.....it´s the same

  • 1, Rick Wakeman

    2, Rick Wakeman

    3, Rick Wakeman

    4, Rick Wakeman

    5, Keith Emerson

  • In the rock realm, no one could touch Keith Emerson. Rick Wakeman is of course excellent, but having seen both in concert more than once, Keith is easily the more exciting player. Also, Tony Banks of Genesis should be ranked right up there with Jon Lord and the others.

  • i would say that is your opinion, mine is ofcourse Rick Wakeman, and i like Keith Emersons music and Tony Banks music very much aswell, but my opinion is that i think Rick Wakeman gives a little extra touch to his music. I have all his albums, and there is NOT a song that i dont like.

you maybe right in what you say =), but to me it isnt.

    Regards

  • all of those keyboardists rock, but just to throw another into the mix, have any of you heard of Jordan Rudess?

  • Jordan Rudess is very good indeed, i do listen to him often.

My list is long, with Wakeman always on top. The concert in May with him, will be marvellous!

  • And Chic Corea?

  • And Larrry Ferrari?
