i'll have found an old price list that came with my Sony TC-800B portable reel to reel, that this unit costs 473.68 US dollars in 1973 (710 Dutch guilders)!!!
don;t know what the exchange course was back in 1973
what the price was in 1969 i don't know, but i'll bett it was higher
i wonder iff there is a way to find out in what year my deck is produced
Nice deck! yesterday i bought A Sony TC-125 in leather case, with microphone in leather case, leather belt, manua, sony boxes (stil in plasic packaging!)l and leather sony briefcase on a fleamarket.
it seems that it haven't been used ever, the leather even smells new! and that's amazing for a machine from 1969!
the only thing missing is the battery compartment lid :-(
and i think i have to replace the belts for rew and ff.
Is that sound coming from the internal speaker???? That's awesome!!! I have an old Concord F-400 stereo portable cassette deck from around 1970 with much bigger speakers and it does not sound nearly as nice as your Sony.
As far as the speed issues go, it sounds like an adjustment issue rather than a belt problem as the speed seems steady, just very slightly off. It's actually so slight, if you had not of mentioned it, I wouldn't have noticed and I am familiar with those songs. Nice deck!
I have the exact same model with speaker, carrying strap, power cord and case. I used to rock this thing back in the day still works needs spool head on play side
This model was actually in production in the late 60's. My older brother had one in high school. You could almost say it was Sony's first walkman. He used to walk home from school with it and a big pair of headphones, This unit would rock when connected to a larger amp and speakers. That was in 1969.
its from 1973 i just came across one with all the books, microphone and speakers. in a brief case looking thing. i happened on your video researching it
I have a unit very simillar to this one, it may even be the same model. I have the notebook computer style carrying case, the stereo speakers, and even the user's guide. I think the unit may still work, but it may need a bit of TLC to get it in top notch condition. The VU meter on my unit does not work, and never has since my uncle gave it to me in early 2003.
Nice powerful machine! I've seen this model on E-Bay (never won though) and sometimes they come in a suitcase with two small 'outboard' speakers. Always wondered how this sounded. Thanks for the video.
Yes, folks, Sony have created, perhaps the world's first EVER Hi-Fi mini-tapedeck! :D
In other words, if you hadn't mentioned it, they'd've never noticed the playback speed variation; they'd've been too busy groovin' along to the vibes spewed forth by those two speakers. XD
of course i mean a TC-124 :-)
