  • Uma das mais lindas cancoes de Don McCalin...tem alma. A letra e mesmo bonita...poetica...romantica. Nothing is as wondrful as the simple life of the country.....

  • lindissima, maravilhosa cançao...

  • I think most men want a simple life, someone to love,a country girl to share our life, work the land, away from hustle and bustle, total bliss!

  • This was my Nan & Grandad's song, they both passed from cancer in 2006. Reminds me of them all the time! <3

  • the feel good song...very nice

  • I brought an album years ago and it was a 'speeded up' version of this and I was mighty upset as it was crap - even Mike Read (I think..) said the same on his show soms time afterwards BUT would love a version of this..

  • Is the original version with no remixes? Hope someone can help.

  • @GeneralLee72 Yes

  • @bbbbbbbbrrrrrrrriiii Thanks so much. I appreciate it.

  • @GeneralLee72 Your welcome.

  • Beautiful Song!!!!!

  • This is not the original, the original was the faster version. From the album Tapestry (not Carol Kings) it was the flip side of vincent.

  • great

  • I did find a country girl, it was the best move in my life. It will be twenty years in another month that we will be married. She has been a God send. I Love you Judy

  • @ILoveChicagoPizza

    Congrats!

  • Beautiful

  • WoW....Fast vergessen, wieder erinnert....einfach gut......:)

    Save me...c`mon......

  • dit is niet het orgineel ..dit is de latere slow versie ..toch bedank voor deze upload ..

  • One day you will be 54 like me defender.....and a youngster will tell you he is 16 now.

  • This is not the original....this came out much later than the late 71 early 72 version....the original is up tempo and better....

  • @centralparocker

Great video ....BUT......you are right. The version on the Single is FAR superior and up tempo.

  • @centralparocker No way..this version is the best! I love how the violin and guitar in the background!

  • @MrYoumitube --------This is weak compared to the original....

  • After 38 years coming back to this song....and appreciating it now more then ever. (listened to this when i was 16)

  • @titan57nl Like this coment but Lucky for me I am 16 ;)

  • Aye clearly nostalgia aint what it used to be???? Sunlight in the Morning try West Kilbride post St Andrews night storm and a late wine fuelled chinwag with yer crazy polymath Mum.....aye and there are Castles in the air....Law Hill Castle

  • but how can words express.

the feel of SUNLIGHT in the morning in the HILLS.

  • Don Reaches into your soul forever leaving his mark on you. One of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.

  • linda musica, linda linda linda linda... fantastica.... maravilhosa... obra prima

  • Another song from me to you ,Melissa, Love you baby 244242

  • Popped up in my mind today...kept on singing it...now i have found it.

  • Hard not to reflect back listenning to this beautiful song. Mine goes back to the days where mothers were homebodies, and their husband, children and home were their priority. No thongs, just cottontails, an apron when cooking, a smile and warm hug when you came home from work. Few worries, enough money to pay the bills, family discussions. This electronic commercial media has murdered family life and I now am part of it. Sad as it may be I grieve the past and fear the future.

  • @Blackduck46 I'm with you on everything you said. I, too, remember a gentler time. Us children running in and out of all our friends houses, mom's making peanut butter sandwiches for all the neighborhood kids - shoestring potato chips, too!. Everyone was like family. Wish I could go back.

  • I love this song. It is definitely pure inspiration. "how can words express the feel of sunlight in the morning..."

  • Don McLean's big his was "American Pie," but this is the song of his that means the most to me. BEAUTIFUL

  • When I first heard this it fit so right toward my goal of moving wife and family out of New York City, my hometown. Though I'll never get NYC completely out of my life, I enjoy the peace that I've found in the hills of Pennsylvania.

  • This song reflects a less hectic and calmer time in our lives.. Don Mclean is a true reflection of all that is good in the world. A haunting song of timeless magic and beauty, magnificent posting. Thank you.

  • this song is a good place to be... where ever you are

  • Excellent quality here. It really does Don justice. Thanks for posting this great song

  • for, I cannot be part of their cocktail generation...

  • This is one of the reasons why country music is so beautiful...

  • @SuperWintry this is NOT 'country' music

  • I love it!

  • MUITO BOM,,,LINDO

  • Comment removed

  • The original is the best version without a doubt.

  • don mclean is a lyrical genius that is why there isnt more of the same elsewhere,my fav lyric comes from him "beams of blue come flickrin through my window pane like gypsy moths that dance around the candle flame"its from the song empty chairs.classic

  • Ouch... big ouch... really hitting home right now...

  • Great song. Why can't more music today be written and produced with quality and meaning such as this one?

  • I'm love McLean and this video are wonderfull

  • This is song you can play over and over and never get tired of it. Pretty music and great words. Thanks for posting.

  • Absolute classic. It still sounds beautiful

  • This song was first a single in 1971 prior to his breakthrough success with "American Pie" but it failed to chart except for a very minor placing on the Billboard Easy Listening chart. In 1972 the song was the flip side to "Vincent." But it took this new version to finally get the song onto Billboard's Hot 100 as an A-side, and it spent a couple of weeks in the Top 40 in late 1981 and early 1982.

  • I was only 4 yrs old when this was released but I vividly remember this on the radio while in the car with my Mom. Like Glen Campbell's "Gentle on my mind", "Castles" transports me back to the quiet, simple, and safe little village we lived in in the late 60's, early 70's. Thank you for posting this song!

  • Ah this is a fabulous song - it takes me back to my secondary school days. Fantastic song, fantastic artist.

  • i love this song!!! since my hi-school days.. i love to sing and enjoy playing the intro...Don tnx for this song..

  • this is an perrfect souldeeper song...

if you listen this in right moments, man ...this is one miracle and one pray!

tks Don, you are the man!

  • But how can words express the feel of sunlight in the morning,

In the hills, away from city strife.

Hills of forest green where the mountains touch the sky,

A dream come true, I’ll live there till I die.

  • Esses 4 que não gostaram devem ser pagodeiros.

  • LET'S ALL GO BACK TO THE 80'S

    WHAT A SONG !!

  • My Most Fav Song; As It was the Song I sang to my first G.F Connie S. a life time ago. Went back to our Reunion sang it again to her to get my heart back. I'sm still single. This is Timeless!!

  • @ravenswolf57 man I know what you saying. I haven't seen her at all. I would like to, so I to can get my heart back.

I was her first bf and she was my gf first. Thinking of you michelle K from palm springs CA.

  • I never get tired of hearing this song.....This is just one of the many songs by him i think shows what a true voice he has...not excluding crying.

  • My favorite Don McLean song. I even remember this 45 was warped and skipped in the beginning, but it didn't stop me from listening to it constantly.

  • I love the video you set to this song. It really makes it stand out!

  • I would love to find a good country woman, not these phoney california girls....

  • Don McLean was a protege of Pete Seeger, one of America's most cherished folk singes. Don was a solid journeyman folk singer who hung out on the uppermHudson river on an old riverboat. Castles in the Air came before the song that made his career, American Pie. Don McClean with his album Tapestry in which Castles is a selection was an outstanding player in the folkie era.

  • y love this song...

  • great song, erm dunno bout video lol

  • priceless!

  • GREAT FUCKIN VIDEO & SONG...Takes me Back to Places, That I LOVE & HATE in Equal Measures.......

  • Don McLean a truly gifted American. Pure inspiration. This is true music, real meaning, not artificial like the rubbish churning out today in some psuedo talent reality show.

  • @federalagentretired That he was

  • @federalagentretired i could not agree more,

  • They knew how to make music back then, didn't they?

  • Great Lyrics! thanks for The Singer Songwriter 70s !

  • I feel sad listening to this slow version. I prefer the fast original from '70 posted by vbvbvb088. Don sounds so young and carefree there, in the show at a school and in the song itself.

  • shnazzy tune, makes me think of all my sisters music and what she used to get me to listen to that wasn't about killing murdering or bling bling, ya know?

  • Should mention that this is NOT the original. Not sure when Don re-recorded it, but this is a newer version. The original is the first track on his first album, Tapestry (1970).

  • @mstrultan This, I believe, is the single version that cracked the Billboard top 40 in late 1981 (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

  • I have loved this song for so long (in its many variations)

    Thanks for posting

  • Love this song although it is extremely sad in my opinion..the photography is beautiful.

  • @bluegin24 I agree. Which is probably the reason I wanted to find it so bad. I love beautiful sad songs.... but at the same time, which makes me feel good too! :)

Never in my life, heard of this song & a few others I've found.... thanks for youtube and that new radio station that plays a lot of oldies music, I would have never know. This- before my time, but I do appreciate this kind of music than the crappy shit that's out nowadays!!

  • @alottaUtube You are absolutely correct about the music (?) out there now. I gotta say though, this isn't before my time....it's sort of my prime time. If you like beautiful sad songs, listening to a lot of oldies should make you very happy! The 60's and 70's were a great time for a wide variety of songs. YouTube is wonderful!

  • Love this song although it is extremely sad in my opinion..

  • Don Mclean is not a song writer, he is a poet who sets his poems to music.

  • this man was, is , a gifted soul

  • I love this song, it reminds me of someone I will never stop loving even though i am about to be married to someone else. shhhh

  • love lost

  • great song, great artist

  • I love this song, but not this slow version. I think the real original is the fast version. Don sounds so young and carefree in that one. And it looked like he was the one on the motorcycle in the end.

  • cancion favorita de mi ninez

  • one of my favorite country singer i love all the songs of don mclean mabuhay ka!

  • Don McLean is still alive and would probably appreciate it if people would buy his recordings. The guy deserves to be a billionaire.

  • Beautiful video and beautiful song - Thank you for posting.

  • don mclean, one of the greats that dosent get enough credit. and i love you so is the most beautiful love song ever. empty chair might be one of the saddest.

  • "Seventh Sense"[Sétimo Sentido] - this soap opera had this song included. [Brazil, 1982]

  • me encanta don maclean su musica mas sus videos

  • ... one of my all-time favs ... love it !

  • B I E U TY FULL

  • This doesn't sound like it's played at the correct speed.

  • 1 person has music appreciation.

  • 1 person has no music appreciation

  • 1 person has no music appriciation

  • I'm 52 now. Gone through tons of music.Mega tons. Yet here I am.

  • 1 person is still living in a castle in the sky.

  • One of the most beautifully written songs ever, brilliant. Thank you Don Mclean for this wonderful song,a classic. Thanks for the post

  • Wonderful

  • Beautiful job! This is my favorite song, too.

  • O M G, I've been hearing this song for weeks & didn't know the name of the song..... finally search it last weekend with names like "i love the country life".... "City boy" etc... & none were this song. So, last night at work, I heard it again on the new radio station 93.1FM, & I heard him say twice "Castle Walls". Wrote it down in case i forget. Type it on YouTube, & clicking a man by the name of Don McLean.... & here it is, baby! yeaaaaaah :D

  • @alottaUtube :) WOW...

  • @kyojaewon Yesssssss, true story! :P

  • @alottaUtube It's great when that happens. I love this song so much, reminds me of my dad who i only see about once a year.

  • @alottaUtube Glad you found it. There are several tha tI can't find my self.

  • @alottaUtube Next time, try to google part of the lyrics between " " and the word "lyrics". You'll find things a lot faster ;D

  • @alottaUtube Pardon me everyone im on an epic quest for an amazing song gtfo of my way! >:O.... kind of what i imagined from your story

  • @alottaUtube hehe, it happened to me too, but it was about Vincent (Starry Starry Night).. I watched an episode of Simpsons and at some point of the action that song came in and I heard "starry starry night", I remembered those words, searched them in youtube and BAM!! the great Don McLean rised in front and I just got sooo happy.. now I searched for some other songs since I started to like McLean so much and bumped into this BEAUTIFUL song..

    simply beautiful..

  • @Fazioli91 I hope you discover his other beautiful songs, like Winter Has Me in its Grip, Oh My What a Shame, The Pride Parade, The Grave, General Store, The More You Pay, and so many others that I discovered only recently when I watched the YouTube Mix for Don McLean, all 92 videos.

  • @emofolkie thanks :D

  • @alottaUtube - very smart :o)

  • Like this song. Can relate. Great pics too!

  • Awesome song. Great job with the video.

This is real music, no techno junk, no artificial voices or synthesizers.

  • Takes me back to 1972 and parting from my first love, actually she chucked me, but I pretended that this was the way it had gone. Ah sweet memories.

    Thanks for the song.

  • For I cannot be part of the cocktail generation:

Partners waltz, devoid of all romance.

The music plays and everyone must dance.

I’m bowing out. I need a second chance.,,, la lala la hmm

  • @shinytan Yeh great singer/songwriter.A Master

  • I love how Don rendered this song. Like the tempo. Thanks for posting.

  • his voice owes something to joan baez - effortless phrasing, perfect anglo/new england diction/marvellous pitch and tone. so perfect it sounds easy.

  • Brilliant

  • wow!! brings back memories of love and peace

  • I absolutely love this. I love all kinds of music and I appreciate all the old artist like John Denver and the guy who sang Big Iron.(Forget his name lol.) But I can truly say this is an awesome song!!!

  • @CrisisCore55 Marty Robbins sang Big Iron.

  • my fav don mclean song, anyone agree?

  • @onisac50 S'gotta be Starry Starry Night fo' life, man.

  • @onisac50 oh a love it 2 but must addmit a like starry night more :)

  • @onisac50 fantastic song, first heard in 1972 , a much underrated singer/songwriter.

  • @onisac50

    vincent

  • @onisac50 Oh yes. He's got lots of really strong songs, but this might be the best, go-to song.

  • @onisac50 Absolutely! Really gives his full range opportunity to shine! If American Pie was a bit too long and Vincent too dark, this song is perfect, peaceful and beautiful.

  • Reminds me of our childhood trips down to Cornwall for the summer....thanks for the post x x

  • Real music at its best. Whatever happened to those days?

  • Boas lembranças essa música me devolve... Realmente uma belíssima nostalgia!

  • for sure this is a favorite song of mine. I am 44 yrs old. This is definetly a classic

  • best song <3333333333

  • Hi kyojaewon, I quite agree with your comment at the top of the page about this song being a favourite since childhood. I'm 37 and have loved this song since well before I really knew what it meant. Now, it somewhat describes who I am... :-)

  • This Song Just brings back memories....Of every song in the world, this is my fav.

I get cold chills as soon as the music starts still to this day:)This is a perfect example of why Don Mclean is considered and original.

  • Not the original....

  • Woke up this morning with this song in my head. Aces,

  • if you like the way he sings it, then you need to hear (keith Harkin ) of celtic thunder sing it. besides being a great singer, he's a hunk.

  • No wonder someone was inspired to write "Killing Me Softly" after seeing and hearing Don Mclean perform. If ever there was a pefect song, this would be it.

  • My all time favourite Don McLean song.

  • What a brilliant man Don McClean is

  • what a great video, beautiful pictures and thank you for uploading this song :D

  • @apx24

    Agreed...Such wonderful memories....

  • que voz, que canção coisa linda, quebrou meu coração.

    valeu. marcio jpa rj

  • no dislikes,nuff said

  • I sing this to my wife all the time.

  • One of the world's greatest ever songwriters and performers for sure. If he was not born to hold a guitar and sing then Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers weren't meant to boogie. Great song.

  • Awesome song! Thanks for posting! Agreed, this song hasn't truly been given the credit it merits!

  • I had to move from N.Y.C.to the Shenandoa Mountains in Va. when I was 21 & fell in love. My boyfriend back in Queens demanded I come back. This song changed my life because it was exactly how I felt. I made him move there instead & it was the biggest mistake of my life. He was such a jerk but thank you Don Mclean for the inspiration.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • FABULOS SONG

  • First heard this as the b side to Vincent, when first released in UK. Fabulous song, Thanks for posting. or maybe it was b side of American Pie short version

  • First heard this as the b side to Vincent, when first released in UK. Fabulous song, Thanks for posting.

  • Don mclean one of my favorite artist castle in the air so a great song.

  • One of my all time favorite song. And Don Mclean sings it beautifully.

  • don mclean is one of the greatest lyricists of all time.

  • i LOVE the beggining of the song(and the rest too)!!!!!

  • I wish my friends were into this kind of music. I hate listening to "Katy Perry this" and "Lady Gaga that" or "Lil' Wayne or whoever all those rappers are whatever" all the time. I mean, come on boys, there is real music out there.

  • @superduperplad They'll get there. There's a place for the fluffy stuff, and there's some real depth there too. Hard to hear sometimes because there's so much formula, but don't dismiss it all. But this is immense, no question.

  • @superduperplad Haha you would be a cool friend
