why isnt anyone thinking of the biggest energy ressource on the planet: the geothermal energy? There are around 10 Zetawatts/year (around the 10,000 fold of the worlds energy demand) just below our feet. And the powerplants are small, can be build in small towns and big cities and do not disturb the natural habitats like those huge energy farms. And you dont have to fight fouling!
Believe it or not, I had this idea a few years ago. I even drawn it on a piece of paper. now they are developing it. I could be rich if i had patented. never mind
Please excuse me for the question but i'm not from this place...hum: where does the energy comes from? Are they pumps who pump the water inside a turbine, or inside the cylinders we have a magnetic field that changes with the motion of the waves and generates electricity?
Ceto run by Carnegie Wave Energy (CWE.asx) is in the mid-stage of a commercial scale demonstration facility. Should be finished in the middle of 2011. Very interested to see the data it will produce.
@pieiscool12353 - Wheres your idea? I don't see him/her claiming anything about oil spillage or for that matter anything about solar. All I see is an idea that can help generate power. There are many ways to fuck a dog (as my grandma use to say) so just because "you" may not like the idea at least it's an idea that "can" logically work. Again, there are other ways this can be done at sea, this is just an idea and most importantly effort towards the solution. So wheres your idea?
@pieiscool12353 what does hydroelectrics and desalinazation have to do with solar energy? I can see how this would alleviate the need to drill for oil which would limit oil spills. Where were you going with this comment?
My project is based on known technology and it can supply our needs for power! Check it out! Sorry about the long video name: ocean power, wave power, wind turbines, sun power, (ocean power, the blue power (3rd edition))
Something that small isnt even visible from space, it doesnt have any negative effects on ocean currents... however the weather patterns changes from burning fuel does.
Yes it will effect currents. It slows the movement of water. The proof of concencpt should work though. The question is will it cause a signifigant erosin problem.
I have read up on this and I would love to see some commentary to go with this video.
It is a less obtrusive method of generating power than a lot of other options. The great thing is that it doesn't generate electricity directly but instead pumps high pressure water to shore which can then be used to generate hydro electricity.
That means that it is much simpler than other systems since it is basically just a pump.
This also eliminates the problem of transmitting power from off shore.
They are doing this in WA its brilliant. As the floats move they pump water through a pipe on the bottom that joins all the floats together. The water is pumped onshore, where it is used to provide power All the work and actual electricity generation etc is done onshore not out in the ocean where it is expensive. Also because it is below the surface and there are no turbines it is not ahazard to small boats, swimmers The vid aint so good in explaining this concept can anyone find a better one?
How is that "fucking with the ocean"? Your not introducing anything new to the habitat that will harm it in any way... Should we just keep burning gasoline to "fuck" with the atmosphere?
Looks like a disaster waiting to happen when a hurricane comes along or any high seismic activity.

@pieiscool12353 - Easy to sit on our asses and criticize someone who's "actually trying" to do something.
Wheres your idea?

@pieiscool12353 This is an alternative to oil spills in the ocean.

The"CETO Wave Power" video explains it better

The advantages look to out weigh wind power which is mostly a sham. The ocean power is continuous and the buoyant spheres are out of sight.
