  • weres the brain

  • @rspeed641 They don't have a brain. They have a central nerve ring with nerves extending (from the nerve ring) down the length of each arm (ray).

  • Poor Patrick D;

  • 0:08 This is called a ----- seacum?

  • @GildedQuest It's called the Cecum. xD

  • Thank you for posting this video, It helped me with my marine bio class. Dissections are not my fav thing to do. this really helped me as it is very pricey to get these through home school programs!

  • im going to kill patrick tomorow

  • There're called sea star, there are not fish.

  • i have actually conducted this unprofessionally on the beach with a dead starfish

all the scientific names are so confusing.

  • If you chop a live one's legs will 2 new ones grow?

  • was it hard to cut through

  • Sad... why kill stuff for fun?

  • Engineering students don't understand any of these

  • @Mohibor I'm a biomedical engineer and I understand.

  • I killed a starfish on my vacation for stupid reason (cause my GF told me to do it) and the starfish haunted me in my dreams.

  • @alehuj lol

  • i kept part of the starfish that i dissected in high school ;(

  • I only got to dissect a fetal pig when i was in middle school =.=

  • R.I.P patrick... ;(

  • POOR STAR

  • wtf,u all dissect from pig to cows..now starfish??

i wonder wats spongebob feels when his buddy is getting cut opened...

  • ahh... our deuterostome cousins

  • I am dissecting a starfish tomorrow!!! Looks cool!!!

  • I am in the middle of dissecting a starfish, it's very interesting and watching this video is a accurate depiction of my dissection except I did a complete saggittial cross section of the starfish.

  • GROSS!!!

  • i did this in eighth grade, it was awesome.

  • i actually like this video...i was playing with like five starfishs yesterday...was awesome until my grandmother told me to put them bak in the water because she said that some of them were poisonous. i got really paranoid after that lol bt they are really interesting creatures. i had all of them stuck to my arm lol FUN

  • ive disected pigs heart

  • ive disected pigs eye, was very boring...lol....most of the eye was made up of water...jst like disecting water? lol

  • ;] nice

  • I've done fetal pigs, frogs, and the most boring one of all, a worm.

  • @Dunoj

    Hey, I disected Owl barf.

  • Owl pellets don't really count in my opinion but I did those to except it was done in elementary school

  • @Dunoj

Haha, I disected a worm when I was in 6th grade, I really don't get the point. I also disected a squid in 6th grade too. My fingers smelt like it for weeks.

Last year I disected a frog :D Our teacher got a stick and poked it's eye out. Then he gave it to me and told me to be careful when I did it. Apparently "juices" can fly out if your not careful.

  • Cool.

  • why yaw killing it i hate yaw

  • y u calling him a fag? u should call the class or the school a fag

  • Comment removed

  • i fucking threw up

  • OH NO U KILLED PATRICK U BASTARD!!!!!!

  • Nice.

In my biology class, we only did dissections on various cow parts like eyes, liver and heart. I would have loved to do something more exotic, like this.

  • thanks for educating me

  • looks like someone shit in the starfish

  • I found them the day after I wrote that lol, it was a male.

  • i would have never guessed thats what a starfish's insides would have looked like. Thats pretty cool. In my anatomy class we dissected cats. Next door was dissecting baby pigs.

  • Well I dissected white mice. T_T not as gross as I imagined..

  • we did this in my oceanology class... it's actually gross lOL

  • I did the first half today... I couldn't find the gonads...

  • Did that today, smelled awful.

  • So that's why Spongebob shows are all reruns, these days...

  • Patrick!!!!... lmao... i'm dissecting a starfish tomorrow... it looks mad cool... XD

  • poor starfish.... put it back in the sea... :(

  • without educating ourselves, how the hell are we to protect and help them?? please do not be ignorant.

  • i wanna see u eat that shit

  • P-P-PATRICK?!?!

  • In other news

Patrick has been murdered and used for a bio class :'(

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOT PATRICK

  • you killed patrick :(

  • Thanks bio 2 test tomorrow lol

  • Sea Star....not star fish, i am just getting technical. Nice video.

  • i had to dissect a pig it was sad

    =(

  • me 2, a fetal big that was collected after its mother was slautred.

  • you killed patrick :(

  • HAHAHAHAs

  • hahaha i rmb dissecting a frog. me and friends had a blast poking him everywhere. and then we sort of crucified him to the bulletin board before we got dismissed. was a hell of a laugh and stink when we came back a week later

  • i do this tomorrow, and im in 6th grade

  • you killed patrick

  • lol...NOO NOT PATRICK!!!!

  • thanx dude i needed this to compleat a school assignment. i had to disect one of these and the internal anatomy isn't as interesting as a pig or cat thats for sure. but thank you :)

  • omg thats nufin in my biology class we had to dissect a sheep heart :( YOK

  • That looks like it smelled really bad. I dont know why, but that was the first thing that popped into my head as i was watching this.

  • i dissected a cane toad and i thought that was bad but this is much more worse!!

  • poor starfish :(

  • repulusive but thats my opinions i no u people will say dont look at it then but still

  • Whaaaat?

  • i need this and i'm in 9th grade honors bio

  • Yay for biology!

  • @lakerfan2293 ouch, when i was little i always thought that high school would be like it is on Disney channel, and it was all dissections and beakers. But then I hit 9th grade and got into honors bio as well....

  • My kids did this in school, and cats, pigs, and frogs. Eeek!! If I remember right, my daughter said the starfish was the worst. Thanks for posting, I think!

  • :*( poor starfish

  • wow! that was actually sooo helpfull for studying for my grade ten lab exam (although its a grade 11 courswe)

the "oral spines" u mentioned but werent sure of the name were actually calcareous spines, i think, and yeah, you didnt mention the Aristotle's lantern in the mouth, but otherwise very helpful!!! THANKS!

  • Never knew about that little facet of starfish anatomy, but then again we were not required to know it. We really had a lot of data compressed into a semester.

  • OMG so scary....do u kill it on purpose!!! or just found it on the ground or something else....please reply!!!

  • I think they are normally killed, but they are killed nicely, the ones I used were "poisened" i think it would be completely painless for the animal, and the education one gets is really worth while, trust me I'm a vegetarian, and once I saw the big picture, Im now all for dissection. Although it still kinda grosses me out sometimes. :P

  • i wish the starfish already dead!!!

  • we had to do this about a week ago, and my cuts weren't anywhere that neat. needless to say, i slightly failed that part of the exam because of all teh terms. the teach can't even pronounce some of the words! haha!

  • Where is the Brain?! Do Starfish have brains?

    Very cool vid!

  • No starfish do not have brains.

  • thats sosad, but still i wanna do that to....:(

  • Meh, its life, it happens. One has to learn somehow, right?

  • yups

  • They were already dead, how is that cruel? Besides, how are we to learn anatomy without decent specimens?

  • get over it

  • I no it may seem cruel but by learning about specimens like these if there was ever a disease causing the starfish to die for example they could use this knowledge to save them, or for other animals that are more related to the human body they can get an idea on how to help save human lives.

  • wtf!!!!

  • very educational. i liked it lol. I should use this for MY biology class cuz im dissecting starfish also

  • I had to disect Owl Puke and pull out the bone sof animals and the stench //shivers v.v Dood I'm jealous.

  • I had to disect Owl Puke and pull out the bone sof animals and the stench //shivers v.v Dood I'm jealous.

  • we do this at my school (6 grade) and the worst theing is when there fresh and u pop the stomach :P

  • creationism!

  • aww poor starfish

  • starfish navigation system!

  • did you make this video or is it from another website? if it is can you tell me the website

  • I made this video.

  • ooh. starfish guts. this video got me hungry for some odd reason. dont get me wrong tho, i love sea creatures. hahaha:)

  • hehehe.

  • this is all proof of creationism!

  • Despite all of my biology instruction, I am still a Catholic, so I believe in creationism but everything evolved with evolution. They work hand in hand, I believe. :)

  • this is all proof of creationism!

  • Look up the definition of "creationism". The one and only thing creationists have in common is that they deny evolution. As for god, I could say a lot but I won't.

  • im a creationist, but this isnt really proof... but it certainly is amazing isnt it, that as we both believe, such simple creatures are made so complexly by our creator :)

  • do starfish even have brains?

  • nope, they don't have brains but it does have a well developed nervous system with thoudands of nerve cells that allows a starfish to do all the tasks it needs to do: search for food, feed, find a sexual partner, and even learn. it also doesn't have a heart since it's small enough not to need one.

  • I hope they die to i love starfish!!!!

  • Well, if that doesn't scream bleeding heart liberal.

Dissections of animals have led many scientists to better serve mankind. Think of that the next time you get a vaccine, ingest antibiotics or wish bodily harm on someone you don't know.

  • it doesn't regenerate after that does it o_o

  • HAHA good one. No, these guys came in a big jar filled with preservative with a bunch of other sea stars from the Carolina Biological Supply Company.

  • this stuff is nasty!!!

  • I guess you could look at it like that.

  • Thanks - Doin bio via homeschooling and this vid helped put it into perspective for me.

  • I have more if you need it. Thank you for your comment!

  • you guys re terrible at dissecting you obviously lack any skll that might be required for a semi-intelligent retard to dissect a fucking starfish. yo are jokes and i hope you die.

  • At least they tried - I dont see you puttin out any opposing vids.

  • haha that wasn't me, jsut a pal on my account...our starfish didn't even come when we tried the dissection ^.^
