I took the h1n1 shot. As the result I became anaphylaxis now. Now I can't have fish, shrimp or aspirns. I never sued anyone before, but if I could, I would. I read the insert on the internet about the h1n1 shot and anaphylaxis is one of the many side effects it caused. I really miss Long John Silvers. I had several episodes of anaphylaxis shock before I figured it out. Now I have to have an epi pen everywhere I go. This is bull, and the pens cost me $180.00 each.
@NICKMELONMAN Yeah it's bad. I'm allergic to almost all of the food that tastes good. Eggs (that includes: cakes, brownies, ice cream, cookies, pancakes, mayo) Peanuts (that includes: most chocolate bars) Almost all the good tasty food has eggs and peanuts in them. The only good thing about being allergic to a lot of food though is that it keeps me in shape LOL.
benadryl needs time to start working, PS: it has little to no effect against anaphylaxis, since its an antihistamine which needs time to work, plus its not a major vasoconstrictor of arteries.
@rosiejuly3 - Also regarding exercise symptoms - check to see if your blood is low in iron and get your blood TSH (thyroid) checked for hypothyroidism! Having a low thyroid, can in itself make you more sensitive to allergens and reactions!
@OlymPigs2010 I just saw this comment. I've been checked multiple times for all things thyroid due to my mother having hypothyroid and thyroid cancer. I'm not sure if I've been checked for low iron or not, but I've recently been diagnosed with hereditary angioedema. It is something to think about though, so thanks :)
@rosiejuly3 - Lots of people who have hypothyroidism are misdiagnosed because the only test the main stream medical community uses for diagnosis is the TSA test which is a mechanical reading of TSA in the blood and doesn't take into account the patient's symptoms at all! On about dot com theres a very good hypothyroid section. Also many people get hypothyroid in the beginning from anemia, which means low iron and many of these anemias are caused by malabsorption of vitamin B12 by the body!
Anaphylactic shock is so scary, I have been dealing with it my whole life and only two years ago was I diagnosed with Systemic Mastocytosis...in other words, almost everything makes me go into shock including the slightest bit of stress! And there are many other horrible symptoms!
Anyone who has many allergic triggers should ask about Mastocytosis, took doctors over 3 decades to catch on with me and I nearly died too many times to count!!
When I take aspirin, which I do not anymore, the insides of my mouth, cheeks, tongue, lips and throat swell, and it becomes really hard to swallow. Once a co-worker insisted that I take a Tylenol, and it happened again, although mildly. I was at the head of a conference table, and I noticed people staring. Can you tell me if this is the same thing?
When I've taken penicillan, my chest feels painful and deflated and constricted. It reminds me of times I had severe asthma when I was young.
@Irondo11 if you live in california ask your doctor for medical cannabis
and buy a vaporizer
if you have an emergency reaction, inhale the vapors from the cannabis, which doenst have thc so you dont get high (just the good effects of it) and it will dialate your bronchial tubes
I had anaphyalaxis to allergy shots two times. I had to be given 10 shots of epinepherine, 1 benedryl, 2 steroid shots the first time and the 2nd 6 epinepherine shots 1 benedryl 1 steroid and zyrtec. Breathing treatment was given as well. Did anyone have something this bad or worse???????????? I am allergic to more than 12 things!
my friend who's a nurse said all these instances of allergies to nuts did not use to exist back then. Something is causing all these allergies! WE gotta find out what.
Every time I've had anaphylaxis it was from eating something offered to me, now I don't eat anything unless I know for sure there aren't any nuts. I didn't even know epipens existed until now, I guess I've been lucky.
well you can get twinject , which have two doses ( but there has been a massive recall on them). It doesnt save your life, it prolongs it for about 10 minutes while you go to the hospital.
Shellfish in seafood Alfredo at Olive Garden when I was in the military was what set off my first and only attack. I was never allergic to shellfish before that point. I hadn't had shrimp since I was five before the attack. Now I avoid all seafood like the plague.
Short for epipen. Anyone has anaphylaxis must carry at least one at all times. In my case I don't have allergies, but still get anaphylaxis. Mine is a problem with a my bone marrow releasing abnormal mast cells in the system which than can cause your histamines to react like you are anaphylaxis. Unfortunetly, I like with daily possibilities of another attack. I suffer with symptoms everyday, because this is what my immune is doing 24/7
I had an anaphlatic reactions to pistachios and it only took 10 min for EVEYTHING to happen. It was so qiuck that I would not grasp what was going on untill I woke up in the hospital. It was really scary and I too have to carry an epi-pen and I can never eat pistachios, cashews and mango again!
i have had 2 anaphlatic reactions. i have developed allergies to penicillin and cephalosporins. the first was after surgery, i was in the hospital, so it was treated quickly. last night i took penicillin for a sinus infection, i told my doc about the cephalosporin allergy, but he prescribed it. i took one, and 2 hours later, my husband was rushing me to the e.r. . now i get to carry an epi pen with me. fun.
I just had my first anaphylactic attack this past Sunday and it was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. I had no idea I was allergic to clams, but that is what did it. I keep my pen close by now.
Yeah, I made it through that one, but had 5 more attacks in the month following, not clams and not allergies. They now call it Idiopathic Anaphylaxis. I'll be seeing a specialist soon. Thanks
Well I'm severely allergic to sunflower seeds, even the oil makes me have breathing difficulties. Now every company wants to make stuff with sunflower oil so I am screwed beyond compare.
this happened to me last night. It was terrifying, i thought i was going to die.

Can you ask the doctor why Benadryl didn't work to stop my reaction from getting worse?
The paramedic tried to say it won't stop what's already happened, but it won't get worse.
Then it got worse and I wanna know why.
Some Paramedics think they know everything. How can you deny what's right in front of you.

@middimar Thats why theres epinephrine

This reaction happened to me even though I took a Benadryl to 'stop the reaction.'
My friend told me Benadryl would put the reaction in check, that it wouldn't worsen, and it worsened anyway.
By the time the ambulance arrived I was barely passing air and they eventually stuck a needle in my neck.
I have epinephrine and can't afford a new stick, but they refuse to give me one.
I guess I have to drop dead first before they'll believe I need it.

DAN5675able 7 months ago
@Irondo11 MAY be. I'm allergic to aspirin and all the same stuff happens to me, along w/ a raging fever and passing out.
When I woke up I was in the Emergency Room, and the ER Resident told me I was allergic to aspirin and never take it anymore.
He told me he was a Resident, whatever that is. I've never figured out the difference between Residents 1 to 4 vs. Interns.
