cheetahs don't run their fastest before 100 meters, after a few seconds they hit a higher gear and really start flying.

It would be more realistic to have them run 300 or 400 meters, though they could only do it once or twice a day

For idiots assuming these are pets. Zoos do this for captive Cheetahs so they're not bored out of their minds and keep the Cheetahs' skills honed. It also helps support Cheetahs in the wild by having things like fundraisers as well as raising awareness like the video said. If you notice the people in the video handling the Cheetahs are zoo keepers and probably the Cheetah's usual handler. I've witnessed an event like this. Some Cheetahs can't be released back into the wild for certain reasons.

The ones that were less risk-averse were the ones that became more accustomed to humans and gradually turned into the pye dog (sp?) mongrel, which was later used to make the myriad breeds we see today.

Better for the species to go on and survive in captivity where they are at least well taken care of, then for them to go completely extinct out in the wild - which is the case for many big cats. No, captivity isn't better than being raised and surviving in their natural habitats - but a lot of the habitats these large animals live in are disappearing thanks to things like deforestation. Also, some animals live longer in captivity than they would in the wild, almost twice as long in fact!
