Whatchoo talkin' bout? I love Carls' voice on this song. And am very thankful that Mike Love was not doing his childish pantomime thing on this video.
Dennis struggled on the high parts, but it's ok. This is a great video, both songs have a story, Mike Love looks interesting, Carl looks 17, and well, just look at the nutty set. Interesting visually, even if it's not the greatest piece of BB audio.
Too bad the designated lead singer of the group, Mike, was the worst singer of the 5 (6)!! Of course he's not doing much of anything on these videos...
Thanks for posting this beautiful pristine voice of Carl's singing a wonderfully crafted song by a wonderful person and band. It's so pure, please never remove it.
This video is great so many ways. The best part about it, is that we get to see Mike's importance to the group. Even better, is that you know he is really insecure about people looking at him and noticing that he's not doing anything.
@TinyMontgomery204 ...Hey Tiny, you must be forgetting who co-wrote many of the Beach Boys hits. Maybe he's not your favorite band member, but have the class to recognize his contribution to the group.
Come on guys...that's Carl singing and he's doing a great job. Wonderful song by a legendary band who all us boomers sorely miss. Summers aren't the same without the Beach Boys...
@paleblue498 might be brians replacement Bruce Johnston singing the first song and looks like Dennis the second. I'm pretty sure that Carl in the back in blue playing guitar
takes brass ones to sing live on tv with no retakes, esp. when the mike douglas show (the show on the video) sound mixer was notorious for purposely screwing up rock artist songs, like he did this time. the times i heard dennis speak at a concert, his voice was thrashed. he tried singing you're so beautiful to brian when he came back on the road in the 70's at a day on the green in oakland. it was like he yelled for a week straight w/out a rest. but this song shows he really had a nice voice!

@jramos037 this is Carl Wilson singing....great voice, but tooooo many cigarettes over the years finally turned that beautiful voice. He was truly a gentleman also...Brian was not on the road at that time, Bruce Johnston played bass instead. Yes, that's Denny (Dennis) on the 2nd song, he could sing also....peace......

I saw a post stating that Brian Wilson alone, and the new group that he created shouldn't be called the Beach Boys. I don't know how many songs Brian composed after their deaths, but I think that he kept he kept the name in their honour, as a true tribute to them because they were the original Beach Boys
Why the other guys voices can't be heard? That TV show could check the sound before!! Anyway, Beach Boys are Beach Boys! Go on Carl! You did it great!!
weird. and thus did the beach boys give charles manson his first taste of nationwide exposure. good thing they didn't have much time for interviews: "well mike, this next one was written by a friend of ours named chuck. he's a little out there..." how long before the murders was this broadcast?
According to Manson's own words, he was pissed that he didn't even get a writer's credit for the song. I'd be pissed, too: It's called plagiarism. I've heard both the BB's version and Manson's. They didn't change it so much that, if it went to court regarding the outright theft of the song, the BB's would without doubt, lose. I'm no fan of Manson; just reporting facts.
And why have you chosen to give credence to the claims of a killer? When the guy murdered people his moral flame extinguished leaving him with zero credibility.
What Manson said is not my opinion, it's his. This story I first learned in 1977, and is well-known among "serious" BB fans. The facts are readily available. More than one version of THIS song by the BB's [well, Dennis & the BB's] version & Manson's original DEMO are on YouTube as I type this. If Manson tells the truth, it doesn't become a lie because he's a murderer. Dennis didn't credit Manson and it appears he was lucky that he lived as long as he did. R.I.P. :(
@Helen25243 What could you possibly have bad against Carl? The fact he was super talented? The fact he had the heart of an angel and the voice to match? :-D

I am a huge Beach Boys fan but this sucks. I love Carl's voice but I almost feel they(the band) were too good to do these two sub-par tracks. They would of been better off doing their own stuff which far exceeds this crap
Wow, this is essentially Carl singing accapella. And what you get to hear is the pitch-perfect voice that always sung the perfect harmony in all those classic songs. Thanks for youtube God!

Love this song sung by Carl. And no chicken-shit lip syncing(I hate it sooo much when artists sing along to a song being played backstage!) either.....Carl just goes out live and belts out the song.....so fabulous a voice!
This is what I consider their best music. Beach music is nice, but this is different, which is what I like. I can Hear Music and Never Learn Not to Love is my favourites.
Love it! Beautiful. Carl's voice is just heaven. Denny's got a awesome voice too, under-rated. Then again, The Beach Boys as a band are WAYYYY under-rated.
I CAN hear music each time we talk. I wonder what I will hear when I see you again after 35 years? Those feelings have never left me. Thank you my Knight of My Heart. :=))
I could never understand how someone with a last name of "Love", i.e. Mike Love... Could instigate such Hate in people... What's up with this? Oh well, since I don't know the "History of The Beach Boys", I'll just listen to Brian, and Dennis sing. Oh, yeah, and Carl... I think technically, he had the most beautiful voice, of all the brothers. But, what do I know.
@BoogPow actually the first one singing is Carl Wilson, bruce is playing bass.

Love it!

Remind me again - what was Mike Love's role in this band ???????

He was there to do the dance mock sign language to reach out to the deaf community.
