Actually, slave offsprings did carry the old world traditions. Go to Appalachia and you'll hear folks songs from Ireland from the 1600s. Dancing was a HUGE part of African culture amongst the newly emmigrated, and a means of storytelling, relief and survival. The style of dance, not to mention their genetic rhythm, has carried through to today.

Mm, not so. African traditions are still very much alive in the southern population of the U.S. Led Zeppelin ripped off, note for note, every good black bluesman. The blues is a combination of African rhythms and Irish/celtic influences. African art has influenced and infiltrated American traditions.
