i by-passed jaunty,as i was waiting for the full release of karmic, and beta was good for me,as for ext4,this is in theory fully fixed now,so going over to it should be ok.
gotbletu in the end you stated to use "ext4" rather than "ext3" I currently have my /home folder partitioned in an ext3. If I do a fresh installed with the OS in ext 4, but not the /home folder will that give me problems? BTW you are right about the grub thing.
can you make a video on how to dual boot linux with windows, where you install linux after windows and still keep the windows boot loader as the default
Grub looks crappy? I'm not sure if the kernelmods for your graphics card load until the "splash"... they cannot have fancy stuff when the drivers/modules are not loaded yet...
Pidgin Laggin ass? LOL. Is there something you miss from pidgin that empathy does not have? Vice Versa. Thanks for the review. Don't use Ubuntu, but some of your vids are helpful. Thanks.
You should report the dependency issues if you haven't already. They won't fix it for the final unless you do. I went through 2 releases waiting for them to fix a dep problem... then I filed a bug and it was fixed by LTS.1
Nice vid man as usual. I had issues with getting flash installed in Karmic beta and it doesn't help when you are a bit of a noob with Linux. But it felt really solid to me. Anyway, good vid dude. Keep 'em comin'.
I had a huge problem with Jaunty: nothing would show when I would boot up, and instead would show a bunch of blurred out/scratchy screens -- shit looked fucked up lol. Apparently it was my ATI Xpress video card and incompatibility with xOrg 1.6. Had to clean install 8.10 again.
That said, would you still recommend installing 9.10, or sticking with 8.10?
I *think* there's a workaround for the xOrg problem in Jaunty, but I don't know what I would do if it happened in Karmic.
I was waiting for ages for Kubuntu to get their act together so I could give KDE4 a good go, but since they didn't get it with Karmic I went Arch + KDEmod. I don't regret it one bit.

you can get some pretty nice grub splash screens (google it), it's not dependent on drivers/modules it uses the frame buffer.

I have an ATI 4650 HD and the linux drivers in 9.04-9.10 only gave me like 40 FPs with GLX gears. It was terrible.

Yeah that should work with Karmic.
RaiCoss 2 years ago
Haha, ok, well I'm just going to create a partition for it and then do a clean install and see what happens.

Good luck :P
