  • in my opinion it's a piece of good guitar playing... BUT it have no "blues soul"

  • this is too easy for me :DDDDD.......IT´S DAMN HARD!!!!!

  • We have had requests for the tab for this arrangement. Let us set the record straight. It was a labor of love and is NOT FREE. However, it ain't expensive. It is just $6 from Tim's store.

  • was mesmerized by this, amazing

  • Muito Bom...muito limpo o som..parabéns

  • Great playing to a wonderful tune

  • i hate fingerstyle blues...cos i can't play it...cue violins

  • Oh cool channel and contents. Excellent pickin'! U R doin' it to it. Yay ;)

  • o maluco toca mau pakas!!!aff

  • Hot Damn.

  • Serious! I was just peek'n round some corners and I came across this, and I says, what the fuck IS this?! Digs in like a shovel digs a grave for a rich white man in the soft sandy dirt of an old church.

  • Ya right.

  • very good!!!

  • Jaw-dropping awesome...

  • You better play! This is amazing

  • 33 people are supides

  • Really nice and cool blues :D

  • Totally awesome.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! SUPER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WTH 31 dislikes...seriously?

  • hello? God?

  • Classic! Some people say Tim plays this way to fast and sure if you want to be faithful to the original then a laid back tempo will do the trick. However, Tim always stressed that he came up with a new angle with this arrangement, a faster, more jaunty ragtime approach which I think is valid. Why should we put the blues in a box and say it must be done this way or that way? That kind of traditionalist thinking is the enemy of creativity and invention.

  • top notch

  • Une guitare qui chante le blues !!!! très beau .........!

  • Dang son! He got some SAUSAGE fingers!!!

  • 29 people disliked this. 29 people are crazy not to like this!!

  • cool with the 2 views in the picture! you very rarely see this on youtube, oh and nice playing btw!

  • fucking amazing

  • yeahh get the blues

  • THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Brillant playing!

  • nice stuff...!

  • Jesus! how did you learn to play this.

I always wanted to learn how to play the blues in acoustic...can recommend for a starter?

  • Just love it,about some singning with that!!

  • @agwtube im trying to learn how to solo blues like clapton and stevie. what do u recommend i practice or wat excerises?

  • @rileydd08 That's really a big question. Firstly you need to get really familiar with pentatonic and blues scales. Just google this and you will get a raft of free material. If you want to pay there are some truly excellent video course available at Truefire.com, well worth the money in my opinion. Here's a page truefire.com/blues-guitar-lessons/index1.html And of course listen and watch great blues players.

  • Awesome, mate.

  • I really like this.

  • man,this guy can play!

I bet he could play it even faster. It's almost like a classical piece, now.

The groove of the original is gone, but it's pretty cool!

  • amazing yes the "whole less is more" argument naysayers talk too much crap

There are countless Piano pieces that are pure TRAD Blues far busier than this as well as faster and this guy works out an amazing arrangement genius . innovation and people trash talk because it's not "slow" and " less is more" Looking at the tab is like a lesson in blues and counterpoint worthy of any instrument and something 99% of blues players could learn from.

Guitar or Piano who cares its deep deep blues

  • que increible cancion... kisiera saber kien es el autor de esta magnifica e impresionante obra de arte

  • Awesome playing!

  • What a right hand.....left hand too!

  • What a right hand.......left and too!

  • What a right hand.....left hand too

  • take out the blues tablature please

  • What do you mean. You want the tab?

  • any body that says this aint blues is just intimidated by this guys ferocius technique there are many shades of blue personaly i would call this deep blue...but having said that i think one should listen and enjoy rather than trying to classify because its badass...i mean even if it was called polka it still sounds good

  • ......I have just read agwtube's comments at some person who was obviously taking shots at The Mighty Tim Sparks.....I have not yet found that person's orginal remarks, but I gotta say as a guy who has no vested interest in Tim other than having the utmost respect for him as a player. and knowing him somewhat from e mail over the years and studying with him at a guitar week a few years ago.. well.. .the dudes blows pretty much EVERYONE on the scene out of the water.....in MANY genres at that!

  • Wow, what a lot of B.S. comments about this vid. To say this is not blues is to stand up and declare that you are an ignoramus. The blues is a lot deeper than Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B. King. Also, the tune isn't too fast - you're too slow.

  • @dgb111

    AGREED!!!

And to stand up loudly to declare such ignoramnce.

Is this blues ala BB or SRV? Well maybe not. It is much closer to a ragtime or barrel house piano song from the 30s or so. Wish I knew more of those guys. Pat Donohue's Big Blind Bluesy has a similar walking bass line aspect, nodding to the piano.

TIm is basically playing piano on guitar in this one.....more to follow....even learning the first 4 measures has taken a good bit of time.

  • great!!! thanks very much

  • wow....i want to put this guy in my living room as a permanent fixture. Beats what I hear on the radio by far.

  • To respond to a naive comment out there, this IS blues playing. Just not what many associate as faux blues from rock and roll ala Clapton (great player, not a 1st generation bluser though). Listen to some Robert Johnson, or Big Bill. Early blues, real blues, was intricate especially with the coming of ragtime influences.

  • awesome

  • very,very ,nice awesome playing.......

  • OH MY....SOOOO GOOD !

  • meh

  • And your name is Mozart, I suppose?

  • mehhh. Too many notes. Really intricate guitar playing but its missing some soul. The kinda sounds that want to make you twist your face into weird shapes. Too straight ya know. But then again maybe i just like it a little slower.

  • @raspat1 I partially agree. What's missing is the blues. This seems to be all technique, which is great by the way, but it is missing the emotion that makes the blues "blue". Just too up beat and happy.

  • " ONE " word " BEAUTIFUL "

  • freakin amazing, I'm learning this one too... got a loooonnnng ways to go after listening to you bro, sure is nice to know that all that practice pays off. Some folk just don't understand...

  • Incredible play! You know you've done blues right when you actually take the listener somewhere, which you absolutely did. Superb!

  • some one send me tabs for this?

  • Wow, I would give my left nut to play that stuff (but not my right)

  • Damn, hat's some bluz...luv i t' eath SOcalbluzgal Miz Kity

  • slick

  • Wow - that's some hot playing!

  • great playing buddy

  • This is one really hard song to play, I'm learning it now...I have all of the intro done :D but seriously, this guy knows how to play! Well done :)

  • Heard for a 100 times, gonna start another 100 and so on..... I'm madly lovin' it!!!

  • that is amazing picking. bravo!

  • Check out my acoustic songs at my profile :)

  • You just dissed one of the greatest acoustic players on the planet with your idiotic and fatuous comment. What do you know about guitar technique?

  • Grosse technique et aucun feeling, just bullshit!!!

  • plays both rhythm and lead and never goes off beat. BRAVO MAN!

  • Is your left hand tight and tired after playing this song?

  • must i have this kind of nails to play so good? :)

  • Absolutely 1st class - superb playing.

  • holy crap, this is awesome

  • I don't personally love it when acoustic blues is this fast, but I have to respect the quality of the playing. Really amazing.

  • Tim Sparks is an amazing guitarist and arranger,

but this version is WAY TOO FAST to have any feeling come across

  • (applause)

  • DMAN, I PLAY A 12 STRING & HAVE A BC RICH WARLOCK BEEN PLAYING 50 YEARS...BRING IT ON HOME, ....SO CAL BLUZ GAL LUVS YA.

  • DMAN, I PLAY A 12 STRING & HAVE A BC RICH WARLOCK BEEN PLAYING 50 YEARS...BRING IT ON HOME, ....SO CAL BLUZ GAL LUVS YA...

  • Wish I could finger pick. But not grow those nasty nails out!

  • nice :D

  • holeh moleh

  • Great!

  • Here's my little rendering of this tune (but I played it too fast for a river delta blues) mississippi blues by ddanze here on youtube

  • While this is a great version...You should hear Stefan Grossman play it.!!!

  • Nice Version.

It's a bit fast, but it adds that certain groove to it.

  • holy shit.

  • it´s too fast! definitely

  • I'm sure he's well aware of the "right" way to play a Mississippi blues. So what if he chooses not to follow convention? This is a great performance. He can do what he wants, I say.

  • awsome singing guitar, my alltime favorite....

  • i wanna know where the hell he learned how ta play like that !

  • what guitar do you play , is that Takamine ? very very nice...... I like it.

  • AMAZING video

    BUT!!

it is way way WAY too fast!

Mississippi Blues man, come on, real sloowwww and lazy

  • he doesn't really seem to vary tone or dynamic at all, anyone thinking the same? and it doesn't sound blue played like this - more like a boogie, but thats not a bad thing.

  • I would agree--too fast. I can see Tim's skilled, though, so it's not 'sour grapes' on my part (I can play it, too, so that helps the criticism). A slower version *would* be more enjoyable to listen to. I wouldn't say those who're saying it's "too fast" are strictly adhering to a dogma, more so simply stating how difficult it is to enjoy something at warp speed which is clearly intended to be played at a lilting pace.

  • fat hands

  • too bad it's a kinda ugly tune, but it does show how to weave in some blues riffs in

the common E key. why you rush it so i've no idea. that flavor of blues should be played to a blues tempo. not dogmatism. e.g. how could you and your partner

ever do a blues swing to that temp? nope.

  • Its a totally cool version I'm learning this piece and when I sing it fast it sounds shit .

When I don't sing and work phrases up in tempo it sounds good fast or slow.

On its own as an instrumental I like it faster but with the lyrics due to the story it NEEDS to be slow, check the words out or hear the original and you'll see also if you are learning it sing the first verse while you play it and you'll probably prefer the way you sing and play it as a slower version.

  • incredible..this is waht we should call REAL music

  • what a beast, check out my 26 best blues and jazz guitarist"s video

  • so fabulous

  • I dunno. Stephan Grossman's version has so much more feel. This is good for the pyrotechnics, I guess...interesting to see what CAN be done with the tune.

  • excellent pickin'

  • Awesome !!!

  • You can learn this version with Tim's ROOTS RAGS & BLUES video instruction CD ROM. It's at truefire.com. Have fun with the pickin'...

  • porca puttana!

  • amazing!!:-)

  • JUST WOW

  • Dogmatism is the enemy of invention.

  • mississippi blues isn't a guitare style wich have to go fast, you've got to play slower to feel the real delta blues.

  • Blues is not just a scale, its a mood, but good technique.

  • jojojojojo

  • 5 stars for technique! However it would sound better to me if played slower so the sashay of the piece comes through.

  • Comment removed

  • Super bendy strings.

  • DANG that's one heck of a manicure on the right hand but still makes an awesome sound :)

  • Now this is talent! Excellent! Excellent! 5 Stars!

  • get gel nails.

  • Very fine picking. -Ron

  • this is the sickest playing i have ever seen :) respect!

  • this vid shows ppl with sausage fingers can still be successful at guitar as well rock on

  • OK..so to play like that you have to grow finger nails???

  • Decide which fingers you'll actually use, then go down to the local beauty parlour and get some acrylic nails put on only those fingers. They wear as they grow out, so they'll last about a month - if you're careful with them - they're hard and brittle and so can chip and break. Tell the nail girl what they're for and she'll make them thicker. I've been using them for years. The best solution.

  • Are you serious??!!

  • Well, in my case. my wife is a nail tech, but yes - Tim in this vid has them. Check at the local music store and see if anyone knows who's doing them.

  • damn i wish i could play like that. he has sausage fingers too. double respect for that.

  • wuauuu

    excelent man

  • ok purists, you have a point on the speed - but consider it a different piece altogether, sit back and marvel. It's ...... fantastic. I have listened to this version a number of times and can't even get close. I love the original...slow and bluesy ----- but I love this too, jazed up and funky......just great, and technically impossible.....except for the talented few. Love the blues.......and the variations.

  • I like this version, a bit fast but definitely a new take on this song. The tabs are on Sparks website for free, I am enjoying playing it. He adds some new parts which is nice as most everyone else tries to play it like the original, good change of pace.

  • Could you give me an exact link to the free tab? I tried my best to find it. Thanks a lot!

  • slick

  • cool stuff

    Peace

  • also, but i do think it'll be way better slower.

  • tabs?

  • blues has no tabs

  • I dont like this kind of blues too much but I would love the technique to build into the stuff that I prefer!

  • Dudes, is it standard tuning of some kind of open tuning?

  • Standard

  • Class

  • Very good
