We have had requests for the tab for this arrangement. Let us set the record straight. It was a labor of love and is NOT FREE. However, it ain't expensive. It is just $6 from Tim's store.
Serious! I was just peek'n round some corners and I came across this, and I says, what the fuck IS this?! Digs in like a shovel digs a grave for a rich white man in the soft sandy dirt of an old church.
Classic! Some people say Tim plays this way to fast and sure if you want to be faithful to the original then a laid back tempo will do the trick. However, Tim always stressed that he came up with a new angle with this arrangement, a faster, more jaunty ragtime approach which I think is valid. Why should we put the blues in a box and say it must be done this way or that way? That kind of traditionalist thinking is the enemy of creativity and invention.
@rileydd08 That's really a big question. Firstly you need to get really familiar with pentatonic and blues scales. Just google this and you will get a raft of free material. If you want to pay there are some truly excellent video course available at Truefire.com, well worth the money in my opinion. Here's a page truefire.com/blues-guitar-lessons/index1.html And of course listen and watch great blues players.
amazing yes the "whole less is more" argument naysayers talk too much crap
There are countless Piano pieces that are pure TRAD Blues far busier than this as well as faster and this guy works out an amazing arrangement genius . innovation and people trash talk because it's not "slow" and " less is more" Looking at the tab is like a lesson in blues and counterpoint worthy of any instrument and something 99% of blues players could learn from.
any body that says this aint blues is just intimidated by this guys ferocius technique there are many shades of blue personaly i would call this deep blue...but having said that i think one should listen and enjoy rather than trying to classify because its badass...i mean even if it was called polka it still sounds good
......I have just read agwtube's comments at some person who was obviously taking shots at The Mighty Tim Sparks.....I have not yet found that person's orginal remarks, but I gotta say as a guy who has no vested interest in Tim other than having the utmost respect for him as a player. and knowing him somewhat from e mail over the years and studying with him at a guitar week a few years ago.. well.. .the dudes blows pretty much EVERYONE on the scene out of the water.....in MANY genres at that!
Wow, what a lot of B.S. comments about this vid. To say this is not blues is to stand up and declare that you are an ignoramus. The blues is a lot deeper than Stevie Ray Vaughan and B.B. King. Also, the tune isn't too fast - you're too slow.
And to stand up loudly to declare such ignoramnce.
Is this blues ala BB or SRV? Well maybe not. It is much closer to a ragtime or barrel house piano song from the 30s or so. Wish I knew more of those guys. Pat Donohue's Big Blind Bluesy has a similar walking bass line aspect, nodding to the piano.
TIm is basically playing piano on guitar in this one.....more to follow....even learning the first 4 measures has taken a good bit of time.
To respond to a naive comment out there, this IS blues playing. Just not what many associate as faux blues from rock and roll ala Clapton (great player, not a 1st generation bluser though). @raspat1 I partially agree. What's missing is the blues. This seems to be all technique, which is great by the way, but it is missing the emotion that makes the blues "blue". Just too up beat and happy.
