Great starter video for us beginners. I have this heli. I haven't tried flying it for about a year and got it out the other day. The heli went full throttle as soon as the gyro connected with the transmitter so I turned the transmitter off to avoid crashing. Now I can get the heli and radio to connect at all. Any sugguestions? What did I do? Thanks!
First, make sure you have charged/new batteries in your transmitter (tx) and receiver (rx)/heli.
Then take out both crystals(in the rx and tx) and inspect the contacts, if you don't see anything, install and remove them about 10 times just to make sure the contacts are clean, it could be a loose connection. If you see crud, clean it with a pink eraser.
Before trying to connect, make sure your idle up is down, and throttle stick is down.
Another thing before you connect, disconnect 1 of your 3 motor leads, that'll keep the heli from spinning up full throttle while you test it out.
Now turn on your tx first(ALWAYS!), and then plug in your rx(heli's esc, since it has a bec on it). It should connect and your gyro light should go blue(make sure you have head hold mode on). Your servos should become responsive to your sticks.
If it still wont' connect, your antenna wire might be broken in your rx or tx.
You can check your rx/tx antenna by opening up the rx and tx and making sure there's conductivity to the tip, just strip it a bit and use an ohm meter to check from the solder point to the tip.
It sounds like you started up in idle up mode.
Make sure your top left switch is up for HEAD HOLD mode, and your top right switch is down for NORMAL MODE operation(Variable throttle), instead of IDLE UP(That means full throttle).
I asked you to unplug 1 wire. The motor will twitch instead.
@DavidSunshine867 Well, I gave these options a try and still no response from the heli--just red/blue on the gyro. It worked several months ago and randomly spooled up out of control the other day before I shut it down. Could something have suddenly failed by chance? I'll walk through each of your recommendations again just to double-check....Thanks for your help!
@DavidSunshine867 No, it's the 72 Mhz above. When I turned it on the other day it connected as usual but I guess some of the switches were incorrectly set so it throttled up right away so I simply turned the radio back off. I checked the proper switch settings on-line and went back and now it won't connect. It's got me puzzled as well but I am new at this. I just want to learn how to fly it.
In the 2 months I've been watching videos about helis while trying to make a decision, this is the first one that really shows the movements up close for the swash plate & blade pitch the slow/fast movements with the TX sticks.
If you're looking for a beginner heli, this is it. If you're looking at more of an extreme 3D capable beginner heli, then you'll want to get a CopterX 450 Pro or better. Check out the RTF CopterX kits at ehirobo, they're not bad, pretty good quality for your money.
This heli is good for those who want to stay with sport 3D(That means just loops and flips, nothing crazy like tick tocks and backwards funnels).
Haha thanks, I only found the manual tho, you'll be the one to read it and set up your radio properly, when you start flying, then you'll be KICK ASS! haha.
Hey David, im having a issue with my e razor 450. The tail keeps spinning around when I give more throttle to it, i can't figure out how to correct it. so how do I fix this issue? Can you please help me with this?
I don't have the 2.4ghz radio, but I imagine it's similar.
You should look up how to set up a trex 450, finlessbob has great videos that teach you all the basics, after watching those, you'll know exactly how to set it up!
Your question is specifically on the 2.4ghz transmitter, and it does have it's differences, but the principles are the same. Check youtube for some good 2.4ghz dynam videos as well, I think I've seen some good ones.
I also have the e razor 450, and im having problems adjusting my trims so that it could fly correctly. But I have the Mode 1 transmitter, so there's anyway could you help me or post a video on showing to adjust and correct the trims of a mode 1 transmitter as the same as this video???
I was wanting to know if you could give me a list on the wires for the servos and where they go on the reciever. I have an erazor 450 72 mhz, and had to replace the servos, i forgot to mark the wires to which channel they go to and cannot figure out where each wire goes on the reciever. If you could tell me where those go and what servo wire goes where and what direction that would be fantastic, thank you
it soo much cheaper in the US than the UK it costs about $150 on xheli and thats about £90 but if you order it in the UK its £200 thats about $400 WTF anybody know why?
Hi Dave, I followed your Vedio instruction but I could not get the 11 degrees + pitch even with the PLT knob turned all the way to the right. Any suggestion what I did wrong? Thanks.
Hmm, switch over to IDLE up or 3D mode, and set up your head mechanically (pop off and twist the arms to change the lengths) FIRST, set it up to get -11 and +11, after that you can get -5 to +11 in normal mode.
Right now, you might get something like -15 to +7.
Search my videos for "Crash Course in 120 CCPM Setup", it shows how you can set up ur head properly.
Your head should be set up similarly from BOTTOM to the TOP.
David, I just want to say God bless you men. I've bought this exact EXI450 for 6 month but could not set it right after my first crash until I saw your Vedio. My name is Michael and thanks.
Hi Michael, you're welcome! Glad I could help, anytime! I didn't know that the EXI had the same radio setup. Is it exactly the same radio, just a different name?
If your swash isn't level, your servo arms and connecting rods need some adjusting. I'll try to make a video on that. But for now, search for "crash course on 120 ccpm setup", it's a quick and dirty video.
Hi Dave I am having a little problem with swashplate ,I can eye ball it level but not so sure on how far up or down the shaft to adjust it I had a pretty good wreck and replace a lot but it seems to be limited as far as adjusting pitch, any ideas?
Hey Art, I really wish I could help you out............
And I can!!!
A friend asked the same question a couple years ago, and it all boils down to the servo arms and all the control rods' lengths. I made a quick video for him to watch; it shows him how it should be set up to get the swash working right.
I'm going to have to make a new video, cuz that one really sucks, but it'll help you.
Search crash course on 120 ccpm, you should be able to find it.
yes Dave but the video was great .I recently bought the razor 250 with 2.4 ghz controller and its quit a bit different than than my other one think I've got a lot to learn about this controller ,but it's a cool little heli
I'll get a video on as soon as I can get outside still kind of crappy here in Pa. thanks again Dave
Can you tell me where all the servos connect to the receiver? I'm trying to hook up the servos to my receiver but i can't figure out where they all go. And what are the names for each servo? I have the E razor 450 with the Dynam 2.4 ghz receiver and remote. Can you help?
Sure, I found the 2.4ghz manual here: h.ttp://ww.w.mycoolheli.co.m/files/Dynam2.4g-6ch.pdf
On page 5, it shows you the setup, the diagram is wrong, it's shown backwards, but your receiver should have the labels so follow those. Ail and PIT are your back 2 servos, controls left and right, ELEV is your front servo, controls the forward/backwards of the swash plate. If you watch my "Crash course in 120 ccpm setup", you'll know what you're aiming for.
Connect the gyro wires to Rudder and GEAR or AUX2. The 1 wire will connect to GEAR or AUX2. 3 wire to RUDD. With the radio on and rx powered up(Unplug motor!), turn ON the RUDD MIX/GYRO SENS switch, and rotate your V1 knob to 0!! You will not want RUDD MIX. The V2 knob is your gyro sensitivity, turn it full 100%(clockwise) and your gyro should turn blue, that's head lock mode. Flip the RUDD MIX/GYRO SENS off, you've saved your settings to 0% and 100%. You can fly like that.
With the gyro at 100%, you'll have some tail wag, to get rid of that, turn the switch ON, set V1 to 0%(Don't forget that, or your tail will go all over when u use the throttle stick), V2 to maybe 80%, turn the switch OFF to save those settings. Maybe do that from the beginning actually. Confirm your tail reacts like in my 120 CCPM video.
If your swash and tail react like in the video, your heli is ready to fly pretty much.
Thanks for this I was lost without it I have the 250 crystal system like yours this is my first heli, I've been flying rc planes for 40 years I'm 66 so I'll be going over your video lots before it sinks in.

@WVrocksWV
Hope that helps, give that a try and let us know how it goes.
The motor should only twitch if it tries to throttle up now, it won't be able to spin very much if at all with only 2 wires connected. It's safe.
Cheers,
David.

@504GENUWINE
Hi, do you have the exact same radio?
If so, there are 3 important things to check for:
1 - Make sure in heading hold mode(Switch UP!), DO NOT use rate hold mode EVER.
2 - Make sure your rudder trim is 0, and NEVER changes, put a piece of tape over it, otherwise it'll change, and your tail will spin.
3 - Make sure you have the gain wire plugged into the proper port! (Otherwise it's in rate hold mode.
I'm not sure if you have rudder mixing, but TURN it OFF.
Hope that helps!

Awesome video..Would like to know, what is the range for the 72Mhz compared to the 2.4ghz thanks dave
hotwheels69er 9 months ago
@hotwheels69er
I can't say, I've never really tested it.
I've heard that the 72mhz radios can go 1 to 2 miles away, line of sight.
And the 2.4ghz radios have claimed to go as far as you can see the model. I'm guessing it's equal or greater than 1-2 miles.
You won't need the extra distance unless you're using FPV video tx/rx.
All you need to know, is that it'll go as far as you can fly it and still see it. (Unless you're using high powered binoculars somehow.)
