@cyberjar88 Yes she was. She's featured in the documentary called "Lipstick & Dynamite: The Story Of Lady Wrestlers". But she doesn't look like this now. She has long black hair now and is overweight now. She's in the documentary with the Fabulous Moolah, Ida Mae Martinez, and "Kill Em" Gillen.
Groucho was one of the genuine talents of the century. And in the scripted, spin-doctored environment of the 21st century he would not be given a stage. Long live Groucho!
@bgrodner However, the celebrities actually were not given all of the questions ahead of time in the original Hollywood Squares, just the subjects (they had specific questions for each star, so the black/Jewish celebrities would get questions about stereotypes, Charlie Weaver would get history questions, Paul Lynde questions which might hint slightly he was gay) and coaching on possible good bluffs. Many of the jokes, though, were off-the-cuff.
If you ask me the older Groucho got the more of an asshole he was. Yes he was funny and yes i respect him but i respect him as a man and not a comedian.
@MattisSoderstorm So, he was funny, but you don't respect him as a comedian, yet he was an ass hole but you respect him as a man? I think not even the Marx Bros could come up with a more zany and anarchic nonsensical statement! Groucho is and was a legendary figure, he did not change himself in any way, he represented comedy and was entertaining to the end.
@RichardMcKendrick No you are not hearing me in comedy there ate two people. The man, and the Comedian. Almost like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. see I respect Julius H. Marx but not the Comedian "Groucho Marx'' and who says he wasnt funny? I said he was but i just dont respect the comedian.
Groucho is the funniest f***ing man on the planet! I don't think there has ever been anyone who had such a quick wit. I wonder if, when Dorothy says "more sex," that part was cut out of other broadcasts at that time? The word "sex" could be said in a gender context, I think, but since she flubbed and completely changed the meaning, I can't imagine they would leave it there if it could be cut out.
In September 1959, Groucho was invited to be a guest panelist on "WHAT'S MY LINE?". It was either the most brilliant idea- or biggest mistake- the producers ever made (depending on whom you talk to), as he destroyed nine years of the show's reputation for being a "sophisticated" panel show in just thirty minutes. He and John Daly exchanged letters for several years, yet Groucho did not appear on the show again until 1962.
Amazing that she is a wrestler. Today's women wresters look very manly and lesbianish. This wrestler looks so feminine and pretty, more like a swimsuit model. Make you wonder what women are upto these days. Hmmmm.
What's My Line was a great show. I watched it as a kid. Groucho was simply the quickest, most witty person ever on television. No-one today can compare to him. Many of his You Bet Your life shows are available on DVD, some with the original Desoto commercials. I always watch them when I need a laugh, which is often these days.

How much are the panel coached beforehand? (As in Hollywood Squares where they know ALL the questions in advance and only APPEAR to be ad libbing.)
bgrodner 2 months ago
@bgrodner Absolutely none, from everything I've read--the panel members were simply that talented.

Have to admire Dorothy Kilgallen, who bravely plows on through her questions amid the gales of laughter and Groucho's interruptions.
