Watched this in my drama class. Literally, every other child in that class groaned and was bored to death during this scene. I was almost crying. This music is absolutely perfect and Elaine Page puts SO much emotion behind her singing. I can almost feel her pain. And, Jemima sounds exactly like an angel. <3

We tend to compare ourselves too much to someone's greatness and when we don't live up to what we expect, we are hard on ourselves. All I can say is to shine with your own unique talent.

@fatheranthony4pope no, what alot of people think is that Grizabella is the glamour cat, you can see her in the first scene as a younger cat . and she left the jellicles, and tried to come back, but no one exepted her, so now she is old and alone, but when they finally exept her(at the end) Old Deutoronomy chooses her to be reborn into another jellicle life, so she can be happy again:)

@magna621 No, Betty Buckley RIGHTFULLY earned that Tony. Did you even see her perform it live? I've heard stories of the audience jumping to their feet after her performances every night. Her interpretation of the character was different than Elaine's- a more dignified, proud, and "glamorous" Grizabella. I personally think that she has the best climax of the song. She ain't considered the Voice of Broadway for nothing!

Actually, Veerle didn't do the singing for this movie version. They were afraid her accent would be too thick, so they had Helen Massey do the singing part for her.
