  • One dislike.... wow!

  • REST IN PEACE

    HUBERT SUMLIN

  • The doors covers this song

  • This is the BLUES BABY!!!

  • RIP HUBERT SMLIN

  • For the love of god please someone ,anyone, I need the guitar tab for this. I googled it but only found the sheet music which I can't read.HELP!

  • @Kylebristow I dont know the tab, so im just gonna stick with sayin this

The blues is pure emotion poured through the guitar. there is no right way to do it. If your talking about the lead parts, i heavily doubt Wolf/Sumlin planned what he was playing. Just learn the pentatonic, and once your familiar with it, close your eyes and let it all flow. besides, once you know the pentatonic, it will be easy to tab, but you probably wont need it then

  • I love this Version...funky

  • who didn't like this? oh i guess the back door man must had been over their house last week.

  • Its a cadet concept (chess studios) recording.

  • THIS has to be one of Greatest blues songs ever recorded. I would like to see a stripper do a pole dance to this . AWESOME!

  • I had an album that I bought in the early '70's... probably recorded a few years earlier. It was plain white with black text. It said: "This is Howlin' Wolf's new album. He doesn't like it. He didn't like his electric guitar at first either..." This exact rendition was on it (I know; I've quoted the opening for years, lol). Great song. Great recording.

  • He play dem crooked blues with dem crooked fingers. Make me cry.

  • A back door man could also be a man who gives anal.Just sayin!(the song is great)

  • That's the real stuff right there. The Wolf preaching at the beginning is awesome as hell. He's right too.

  • UH!

  • the meaning of a back door man is when the husband goes to work leaving out the front door he comes in through the back door

  • Will the Real Escape, please stand up. Not to be confused with real estate. That is why, it's a good idea to keep yer ears clean...lol. Always dug this tune, even though I used to have to play the Doors version, so a ha to my old crappy band of assholes....lol

  • Awesome stuff, I'd never heard this version ... Thank you, cojwat

    *___*

  • Is this about anal sex?

  • @slicknicknirvana not originally, i don't think. i think a "back door man" meant someone who slept with other men's wives at the time this song came out.

  • @fantacist Yes, because they had to use the back door when the husband came home

  • @slicknicknirvana only the doors version

  • This is from the THE HOWLIN WOLF ALBUM. It's the last track on the album and is either the best or second best on the album. The band -- I've always heard called the Electric Mud Cats. It was recorded in 1969 as kind of a sequel to Muddy Waters album from the previous year, Electric Mud.

On another note, if you like this track, check out "Built For Comfort" from the same album. In my opinion it is THE FUNKIEST song I've EVER heard! I play it on the jukebox at the bar I work at every night.

  • @Dalgobitches This seems to be answer to my question, thank you ! I've been avoiding those late albums, but now it seems, that they are worth listening.

  • @Dalgobitches thanks for putting me up on the built for comfort tune...Good looking out

  • Yes, the quality is beautiful.

  • This aint a chess recording, i'd say it's some sort of ail star jam, recorded late sixties. The drummer is definitely not one of the chess regulars, he does far too much.

    still, it's a good version

  • @gcd93 Hard to believe. This old cd from mid '80s is distributed by very reliable record company. BUT, you have to remember, that great Howlin' was in fact first artist at Chess with his earlier masters leased from Sam Phillips AND he was loyal to company until it fell down in the beginning of '70s.

So, I really think this is Chess recording, but when it has been recorded, that's the question ! And I'm on the same opinion, version is very good.

  • AWESOME quality! Thank's 1,000,000,000,000,000 for the upload :D :D :D

  • Just have to say that I love the depth of feeling in these songs........Incredible stuff.

  • Damn! this is dope...real music.

  • GOOD POST!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • If somebody knows more information about this recording, please tell it. I have picked it from Chess album (Chesscd6,1986) and there is no information when its been recorded and when or where original version has been released. Thank you.

  • @cojwat

This was originally written by Willie Dixon for Howlin' Wolf in 1960. It was released as a B-side to Wolf's "Wang Dang Doodle," which was released in 1961 under Chess Records. Hope this helped.

  • @MrAznazn Thanks, every bit of information is important. But there is still one thing I am wondering; at that time single recordings was typically 3,30 minutes or something - this is almost twice that long !
