The music just seemed to fit. The bees are surprisingly gentle as long as you don't block the entry way to the hive.  I used to put a chair off to the side and would just sit and watch the comings and goings.

I used to do that too in my country I had honey bees (hives) and i think this is the job that i enjoyed the most.

Now I miss those days being beekeeper.

Not so much communist, as communal, like an Israeli Kibbutz. In a hive, everyone works (except for the males (drones) and they're pushed outside to starve every winter. It's the utlimate justice, you don't work, you don't eat.

End of first season with this hive. The bees filled two deep hive bodies with their brood chamber and food storage and produced an additonal two supers of honey for me! I'm delighted and the bees are doing fine as of 31 Dec 2007. This was my most prolific hive.

I happened to be outside with the camera when the new bees were doing their daily orientation flight. After about ten minutes they all went back inside again.
