  • @VideoWatcher332 Actually, Ironically I just do happen to have experience with C++, SDL & Game Programming.

I wouldn't waste my time unless I could use it to put gas in my car, food on the table and a roof over my head. Steam & AutoDesk, Adobe...etc will avoid linux like the black plague because the GPL would force them out of business & existence. No thanks I'd rather dig ditches than write software for a living with no return.

  • Windows is so much better if you like to play games!

  • @ 0:04

It also comes with all the Apps you don't need. Ubuntu Users need to start rating and reviewing apps in the Repo cauze a good 60% of stuff especially in the games section is trash, they need more packagers.

  • @EnigmaXIII Feel free to write your own games and submit them if you think you can do any better.

  • I'm at a loss to say that you get Rhythmbox and Totem as media players in Ubuntu GNOME.

  • Love it.

  • @murderslastcrow Well Ubuntu was always going to be the Linux Distro I picked, but with Windows 7 Home Premium, I don't feel a need. I know which I'll be picking in the future though, should I ever decide to use Linux. :)

  • @murderslastcrow No it probably isn't as difficult as I had originally made out. I understand that was probably the purpose behind the software center. However when I used it a while back, installing stuff I needed was NOT provided in the software centre meant visiting a website and downloading a package, which told me to use commands to be able to unpack and install such things. If it was in the software centre then I see it would have been simple.

I'm enjoying W7 once more. No Linux for me ;)

  • 22 programmers that work for Microsoft didn't like this :D

  • That was extremely well made, catchy and flashy. Your transitions looked very professional and i actually thought it was a tv ad until I read the description. Good Job.

  • I love ubuntu but unfotunately the softs on ubuntu are very small .It;s a pitty.

  • I had Ubuntu, but I had to partition my hard drive. Apparently this messes up the hard drive sometimes. Anyway, it wasn't that clear how to do things on Ubuntu. I'm not saying it's bad, but perhaps I needed a manual. Sources on the internet seemed so vague.

  • @Snagprophet search on google for "Ubuntu manual", you will find a really nice manual as the first hit.

  • I just found this, and I am absolutely floored by the quality. I know that this is 3 years old, but kudos to you.

  • @kiddfroster Thanks very much. Your comment made me watch it again, and oh man. THE OLD YOUTUBE VIEWER!! How time goes..

  • @murderslastcrow I do respect the work of the developers of Linux, but they are so smart at creating something that they forget the less technical folk. I am quite tech savvy myself, believe it or not, but it's hassle, an less productive... time consuming if you will, to figure out certain commands, or alternate commands which are similar things like /dev/sda/1 or something like that, which turns out to be hda, or hdd, takes ages!

MAC OS has a nice GUI, seems simple to me. Hrdware sppt is OK.

  • @murderslastcrow I'm quite happy with Windows 7. Sometimes I just get a bit picky and fancy a change. I like the concept behind things like Ubuntu. But 9.6 drivers for my video card is too old, wireless support is still naffo (you still need to use shitty NDIS wrapper or what?) an it's just too much hassle.

  • @UKFX Try installing 2 Windows 7 side by side and see if that is any easyer. You mention a 9.6 driver, I am guessing this is for a ATI grafic card. You no longer need to manually install driveres for ATI card, but if you have a HD card you can install a faster driver under System-Administration-Additional drivers, here you can also install the wifi driver for problematic wireless cards with one click, easy and simple.

  • Great video. The only thing Ubuntu are not allowed to install by default are the "restricted extras" - but you can install the "restricted extras" yourself easily enough. The "restricted extras" package gives you thinks like Flash player, MP3 support and so on - all the things the copyright ****ers like to encumber with patents and licence agreements. I will never go back to using Windows, I like Ubuntu too much. :)

  • Or just use a desktop where the effects are built - in.. like KDE 4.4,

download either Linux Mint - (KDE Edition) Kubuntu, Mandriva, PCLinuxOS

are all nice. andd effects aren't something you need to add in, however easy !!

oh, and they're not brown ! - Have Fun.

  • @murderslastcrow I mean, it cannot be main stream. If the package installer thing isn't up to scratch, or you want something not listed. You have to use "code" in the terminal. How is that main stream? It isn't is it. I've used Kubuntu as well around the same time I used Ubuntu and Xubuntu. The problem is, lack of hardware support. I don't want to risk my XFX Radeon HD 4870, or use graphics drivers which were made a year ago which have no optimization. My thought of using Linux is no more. Peace

  • Wow! Great! I wish that was on television. I subbed. :D

  • Great ad! Keep up good work

  • Thank you for the upload...

    :)

I am using kubuntu 10.04 LTS at the moment...

    Works great...

  • I hate how everyone goes! Stop using Windows, LINUX IS great. I love the way Linux looks. Ubuntu is my favourite. I'm rubbish at using Linux and I used Ubuntu 9.04 about 18 months ago... but either way it is not user friendly ENOUGH and hardware support is still naff-o. I like Windows 7's liteness but I'm not AS keen on the look. I prefer how Vista looked. At the time of using Vista I prefered Windows 7's look but not anymore and Ubuntu has a long way to go. As a Main OS. Ubuntu is 2 far behind!

  • nothing to say... except...... superb....

  • Search for Compiz in the ubuntu software center and install it, then activate the plugins Wobbly Windows, Shift switcher, and Cube reflection and deformation.

I think those are all the plugins you need to get the same effect...

  • Thats Awesome

    Great Work

  • The productivity in Ubuntu is amazing.

  • let's go linux

  • LOL Ubuntu games suck... there's no modern warfare 2 and stuff lol. And using wine isn't as good as the real there

  • @gamezonic yeah... like computers are only useful for gaming...

  • when 10.04 LTS comes out and is completely stable you should definitely do an updated one

  • please remake in hd :D

  • This is cool

  • Windows is for Moron... Linux is for nerd n genius.... haha

  • bence linux kendini bi bok zanneden kişilerin hava atmak içi kullandıkları uyduruktan bir yapıdır.

windows a bok atmak haddinize değildir.

  • @papanselaju I prefer linux over windows, but windows isn't for morons, it's for gamers. If you don't play games but prefer windows, then you are moron :D

  • Cool video. You should have showed off some different themes, otherwise the viewer might think that the crappy default theme is all that's available.

  • All you did was show off things that are built into gnome, openoffice, and compiz :?

  • Awful.

  • I suppose you back Windows Vista or 7, buggy as hell, using Mac PCs and racism in their ads?

    Wipe your ass!

  • best os ever!

  • Very good. :)

  • cool music dude ;)

  • Good stuff.

    Linux is the future !

  • @jeroeniskoning 2011 is the year of the Linux desktop!

  • Wow, i am surprised great commercial.

  • Great ad. Though it seemed like more of an ad for Compiz than actual ubuntu. You need to do a lot of customization to get those kinds of effects. Its not the ubuntu default so someone somewhere might be dissappointed.

  • Dude. People like Linux because it is anti0what ever you just said

  • Great video, it inspired me to have a go at making my own Ubuntu adverts as well.

  • Good stuff.

  • WOW!! THIS IS SO GOOD!!!! :O

  • nice ad!!! I always include compiz burn and cube effects with all my installations. people really love it.

  • What is the song called, what is the song called? Holy shit, what is it called?

  • The song is called 'Bouncing' and is from 'Alternative Rock Vol 1' on freeplaymusic (dot) com

  • I LOVE UBUNTU!!!!

  • AIR THAT SHIT!!!!!!!!! seriously put that on telivision. go get peeps to sponsor u and then they will air it of course you might have to do something for them like advertise their product or maybe even pay them

  • Compared to what? LFS?

  • This isn't an ad for Ubuntu it's an ad for Compiz. Ubuntu itself is nothing really that special as far as Linux distributions go it's just insanely popular with beginners. Not that there's anything particularly wrong with that, it's just Linux has become totally synonymous with Ubuntu nowadays. I'll take Slackware over it any day.

  • Slackware is bloated!

  • Umm. What? Are you high? Slackware is bloated to an extent of the programs you need on a amazing Linux distro.

  • It is old, lack simplicity and it is not initiative!

Ubuntu and RedHat are the market leader not Slackware!

  • no os is truly better you just pick the 1 with advantages you like and disadvantages you can deal with

Ubuntu(Linux) had been known to be very stable, very few known viruses(very few),Free which is always a +,Highly customizable, as well as a few other things I'm unaware of since I'm still learning

Disadvantages - very few comercial games as well as a lack of decent (non shooter)native games, not all hardware is compatible while most is

was going to do one for windows but the character limit

  • well, actually there are a lot of decent native linux games.. the trouble is finding them. :P

  • thats why your supposed to try the live cd to make sure everything works correctly on your computer

  • Noob.

  • 1. The updates can easily install themselves in the background.

    2. Barely any programs worked on it? Was that because you tried installing Microsoft products or something? Maybe tried installing things from your USB? Every program you have most likely exists -better- with a different name. And since it's Ubuntu, it's probably free.

You should be more patient, I switched to Ubuntu after 4 years of Windows. I wouldn't have any other OS. Get used to it and you will never turn back.

  • ur an idiot

  • awsome man...plain awsome..

  • Linux for multitasking and general use. Windows for gaming.

  • agreed. i tried to get some games to work using WINE but it just doesn't work. if you ever try it u'll see what i mean.

  • Nice video. When I saw the part at 0:02 I was thinking, "Oh no, not another video where the maker uses a word processor to communicate to the viewer..." but 0:02-0:16 was an amazing idea! Overall a great promotional video. Keep it up.

  • Have fun with your Mac. At least we have half a brain.

  • Yeah, congrats, sean1256. Glad to hear you have money to spend on sleek looks and not much else. Ask server admins about Linux. Over 60% of servers run Linux. Oh, and you'd be happy to know that your Mac runs on Darwin, a modified BSD kernel. Bet you don't even know shit about what "BSD" is. I use it on my home servers for fun.

  • Macs are overpriced and their target audience are brain dead computer "users" like you. Have you figured out how to turn on your mac yet? Dumbass.

  • a version in Spanish and another in Portuguese would be great!

  • linux ftw

  • good video but badly needs to be updated... that version of ubuntu is at least 2 years old

  • Is this version similar to the new Unbuntu Net Remix? I've been pondering purchasing a Netbook, and if this is what this new version looks and feels like. Sign me up!

  • this version is 7.04 (at most) which isnt even supported anymore... ubuntu net remix is a modified version of ubuntu 9.04 designed for small screens

  • were do you get it for windows

  • you dont get it for windows, you get it INSTEAD of windows.

although there are ways you can run it aswell as windows, but we wont get into all that.

  • Ubuntu is very popular linux distribution with tons of support by many computer users, it has a learning curve but with every version its becoming very user friendly, although compared to windows its a bit harder to work at times, when it runs perfectly you get a system that runs at a quarter or 1/8 the ram and uses processing power a fraction what windows uses, but when something goes wrong you will be messing around with command lines to fix it, all in all its a very stable and portable

  • and you can see in the video since its linux and is very light on resources you can dedicate that free resources with amazing visual effects with out having a completely top of the line computer, although if you have top of the line computer it will just run better =). The only downside is games mostly which i think is why alot of linux users have a dual boot system (having windows and linux in the same computer)

  • although there is alot of projects running around to try to get games running on linux and there are quite a few windows games that run on linux, (WINE), and in some programs you can even share their databases with windows OS (since Linux - Ubuntu can see all parts of the hard drive) =) -- all in all viva ubuntu! :D

  • Ubuntu is an OS, Windows is an OS, Ubuntu is a better OS.

    Get Ubuntu

  • Ubuntu better than WIndows and Mac mainly because it's free and software licensing is a thing of the Past

  • DUDE contact me I have something i want discuss with you about this ad. I think you will like my idea. Seriously........

  • I had a go at making my own advert, though I think yours is better :)

  • Where can i get that skydome!? :0

  • THE BEST OF ALL IT's FREEEEE

  • it's free as in free beer and free as in freedom.

  • Very nice ! I reckon this can be polished and be made official? This is very good!

  • This was alright... I can't get the flame effects to work on the new CCSM, that's why I originally went with Sabayon and Beryl.

The thing with my desktop is that I have it so that there are different wallpapers on each workspace. I have 8 workspaces just for the wallpapers... it is Asuka themed (from Evangelion).

I dual-boot with XP and U8.10. It's awesome, but CCSM needs to be a bit more USER FRIENDLY... just like with many Tux programs, lmao.

    7 days til 9.04!!! :D

  • I use Ubuntu 9.04 Beta on both my pc's and if i want to do something i need Windows for. Reboot and 45s later i am ready.

If Everything worked with linux such as games and programs, microsoft whould make programs for linux. But microsoft has bought the market so no other OS can really get a big stand.

I say Stopp Buying Windows and get Linux instead.

At My work a have convinced several customers to try Linux and no one has come back to complain or ask anything.

  • Great job!

  • Absolutely excellent!

If I could I'd shake your hand!

Beats "I'm a PC" or any of the other crap advertisements endorsed by Microshaft.

Don't use Linux? Get on the band wagon, everyone welcome.

  • shake

  • What you are hiding: You have to configure Compiz for your self..

  • and that's reaaaaally hard. :P

  • it really isn't hard at all just install compizconfig-settings-manager and everything is pretty straightforward

  • I was joking about the hard part I hope it was clear :P

  • I really like it!

  • everyone hates windows to hell...

the only reason we use it is because everything's only compatible with windows...

very few with everything else =_=

    if Conficker wipes my computer

(which has vista), im definitely getting ubuntu to put on it. (also considering i lost the fucking disc ._.)

  • Not everyone hates Windows. Majority dont praise it, but not everyone "hates" it. I'm one of them, because I'm just not stupid with computers, basically :P

  • note: freeplay music's music

idk which one it is but i know its freeplay's

  • lame

  • This is a great video I would love to see a High Def Version of it, as it is you can't full screen it, without blur.

  • Nnnyyeas it can.

  • erm, i dont think ubuntu can ever run games to such high a standard as windows too my knowledge, mid u OSX does play WoW so i suppose it could due to it being built on some of the same code, but ye u get me lol, ive been using ubuntu since 8.04 now using 9.04 beta

  • How's 9.04 doing so far? I've been thinking about checking it out...

  • it in the beta now and it damn good, new themes and stuff and quicker boot up and shut down time, i would say its pretty stable now however id w8 the last month (:

  • I totaly agree if games were out for linux as they are windows then i would be using ubuntu its just a better operating system and i already say FUCK YOU BILL GATES

  • Wow! Great job on this video!

  • come pubblicità nn la vedrei proprio... è troppo lunga... xD

    no cmq è carino

  • Comment removed

  • @Simplythebestmovies: Very well done video. If Ubuntu had TV ads, this would probably be the one. Although you might have to make 30 second ones. lol

    @ tolazyk

Hey actually it is really easy to use Linux as long as you get a pretty straightforward distribution. Ubuntu is great and pretty easy to use. My parents enjoy it over windows and my sister picked it up with no instructions. And if you need that XP look and feel, you can just use some themes.

  • The only thing I am jealous of is the 3D cube and the window giggle-effect. It's pretty cool, but I heard you have to speak computer to use Linux. Too bad.

  • ubuntu, linux for human beings.

you should also be jealous of free software, no defrags, no crashes, smooth running, and more. even the computer illiterate can use ubuntu.

  • ubuntu is awesome and so is its cousin Linux-mint I have Ubuntu on my Compaq and Mint on my I,B.M net vista furthermore I can down load ubuntu software to linux mint with ease. and vis versa Another thing my two computer can talk to each other a lot better when I went the Ubuntu Windows X.P rote.

  • I like it !! good!!!

  • might try it when i buy new comp, since this looks likes it needs a nice video card

  • No it does not. It has lower requirements than Windows Vista and the same as XP. If you have a really old one use Xubuntu as it has about the same requirements as Windows 2000.

If all else fails and you really want a Windows feel I suggest you use LinuxMint because it is really similar. And it comes with more drivers than Ubuntu.

  • =) =)

  • 20 - 40 min, like a windows aero, who is the first? windows?or linux?

  • this is simply amazing video you made congrats !! XD

  • OSHT looks better then windows 7 and xp lolzor but except not much games :(((((((((((((((((((((((

  • You can play games... If you knowhow to configure wine, or get a subcription to Cedega...

  • I use wine on my Ubuntu, but I feel that the frame rate is slower for my games, and my graphic card isn't that bad...

    Even Ragnarok lags... >.>

  • Hate to break it to you, but games for Windows will always run better on Windows. Let's just hope that game developers will port their games to Linux someday...

  • that was relly good

  • this looks like a mac and windows OS smashed together

  • lol it probably is :P

  • how...

    DARE YOU!!

  • how dare me what?

  • call ubuntu a mic of windows and mac

  • How do you drag the windows down?

  • Great video!

  • You must have a spanking graphics card. I tried this, & it slowed down so much I had to reboot the computer.

  • your video card must be very very old. my 6 years old(i think, may be more) geforce mx 440(nvidia) works perfectly without slowing down the computer or what so ever.

  • very impressive, i need to get ubuntu on my ps3 when i get a usb keyboard

  • THat is one awesome ad u made props man!

  • I'm downloadin tht on my pentium 2 computer in my room right now. lol I have XP on it and it's pretty slow. I'm hopin linux wont take up as much ram... I'll find out i guess

  • Linux and Mac FTW

  • Unfortunately, if you want to remove Ubuntu from a windows dual-boot, you need a bootable windows disc for your version. OEM users will have to recover their windows or borrow a disc. I had to and I was annoyed.

  • Awesome man, which version is this? 7.04, 8.04...?

How do you do some of those effects, such as the grouping, file searching, and the magical pixel dust stuff when you close a window?

I have 8.04 with compiz and I can't find that stuff

  • you need to install compizconfig-settings-manager.

Open your terminal and write this:

    sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

then after the installation, go under 'system''compizconfig settings manager'

    enjoy.

  • I already have compiz (Quote: I have 8.04 with compiz) , what is the name of those effects?

  • You have the effects already, but need to install the config program.

  • I wanna try out ubuntu, but can i use XP after that? Plz respond

  • Use the Wubi installer voor windows to install Ubuntu as dual boot ;)

  • Yes, in fact, you can use it without making a single change to your computer! With the Live CD you run the OS off a CD, sure it's slow, but you get a good feeling of the system. Besides, you can install Ubuntu on one partion and XP on the other. That's how I went from Vista to Ubuntu.

  • linux and open ofice free what du you neeed

  • this was an excellent video. i bought ubuntu the other day pre loaded on a memory stick because i have the acer aspire one with the 512mb ram so i cant download it but this video convinced me to buy it

  • If it weren't for the trouble I keep having with my Wireless drivers... *sigh*

I'd run Ubuntu on this machine.

  • I had that problem with Redhat - solution? Wires =P

  • its like a beefed up version of xp

  • sweet ad dude! i am thinking about putting linux on one of my computers and it sort of looks likes mac and vista put together

  • amarok sucks - songbird for the win

  • It's almost like vista but free and better!

  • yeah and not a hog on your resources

  • Ubuntu seems to be very stable and looks very amazing, but what's with the support for Graphic Cards, Soundcards, Printers? Please help me, thanks in advance

  • support for all you've mentioned, the only issue with linux at present is normally when it comes to wireless drivers

  • Currently use Ubuntu on my laptop and worked with my ATI 7500 C and printer out of the box. The only thing that doesn't work with it is the wireless drivers.

  • No! Stay away you windows people! You don't really want Ubuntu! It's not better in any way! It's ours! Only we understand it! It's really difficult to learn! You won't like it at all! Honest! Our precioussss!!!!!

  • holy crap dude...im geting ubuntu NOW!

ps, can i have a dual operating system like say i had windows vista , i loaded ubuntu on , can i switch between them in startup? plz help me

  • Yes. In fact, at start up on your computer, a menu will come up and you can either pick Windows Vista or Ubuntu.

  • and what about compatiblitliy...like a windows presention works on ubuntu and vise versa?
