I have a great deal of respect for Dr. West and his work but perhaps he is being slightly hard on Obama, for him to gain his post, he had to appeal to everybody, not just black people. He did comment on the history of black America during his inauguration and I felt he did so very eloquently. Remember that Obama is not a civil rights activist per se, nor the second coming of MLK. He is a skilled and successful politician. Dr. West is right to apply pressure. It will help bring change.

Sure, however, Obama had to capitalize on the Black solidarity behind him to arrive at his win, while he was trying to appeal to and neutralize general white anxiety. It's this anxiety that runs this country and its leaders on a grand scale.
