Well done video. I'm living in New Orleans, but I have to tell you, it was not a color thing, it was a class thing. The poor were being destroyed. I truly believe the levee was bombed in the lower 9th, but it backfired and the rest broke. 1,000's dead, many never recovered. New Orleans, still not repaired, people with stress syndrom on the streets, homelessness........
You all should read John McPhee's The Control of Nature. One of the essays is about the Corps of Engineers trying to control the river and how it may fall apart, destroying Morgantown and all points south. Fearsome stuff especially if our government hasn't improved its attitude.

There was a warning.. basically for the entire American Gulf Coast and some of Mexico's. The problem is that people were used to riding out the hurricanes of the past, some had nowhere to go or no means to leave, some didn't want to leave. What they weren't planning on is a complete failure of the levees, and subsequent failure of government assistance. Truly the worst mismanagement of emergency services probably in our history. Its some shameful shit.
What is so wrong, so sucks, besides the gov't not having a useable plan, is that most of the photos everywhere, were of black men and women and people from the poorer districts, the hardest hit. As if there was no rush because of this? I am a 45 year old white woman, grew up in Wisc. during the 60's and didn't know was going on in the south then. My parents said nothing about race! I live in Slidell and I think that people have dwelled on it and just show all this terrible footage of the days immediatly following the storm because folks in that particular area rode out the storm because they had no place to go or no car to get them there. Well done video. I'm living in New Orleans, but I have to tell you, it was not a color thing, it was a class thing. The poor were being destroyed. I truly believe the levee was bombed in the lower 9th, but it backfired and the rest broke. 1,000's dead, many never recovered. New Orleans, still not repaired, people with stress syndrom on the streets, homelessness........

There was a warning.. basically for the entire American Gulf Coast and some of Mexico's. The problem is that people were used to riding out the hurricanes of the past, some had nowhere to go or no means to leave, some didn't want to leave. What they weren't planning on is a complete failure of the levees, and subsequent failure of government assistance. Truly the worst mismanagement of emergency services probably in our history. Its some shameful shit.

What is so wrong, so sucks, besides the gov't not having a useable plan, is that most of the photos everywhere, were of black men and women and people from the poorer districts, the hardest hit. As if there was no rush because of this? I am a 45 year old white woman, grew up in Wisc. during the 60's and didn't know was going on in the south then. My parents said nothing about race! People were people. Will someone enlighten me about now's reality on that? Have most people gotten anywhere here

I personally don't agree, Flood works with this idea both literally and figuratively, being that people thought they were safe only to have everything washed away. Aenema (NOT AEnima) is more about cleansing everything that is bad in the world or more specifically Los Angeles. Thanks for the comment!

i remember we held a minute's silence after world trade center (in Austria), but we never did that for victims of Katrina or even the Tsunami, where more than 160 000 people died.. the reaction of the government seems to be as fast as rich the victims are. it's sad that America can't even help his own citizens and still tells other states what to do -.- it's horrible when i read comments that people deserved this, it's not their fault that America is a natural disaster

aside from cross's good point about our governmental structure, don't forget that the area was one huge welfare district, with ridiculously high unemployment rates and ridiculousy low property ownership. When asked why she didn't leave one woman said "cuz this is where my {welfare} check comes". if someone wants to work their way out, I'm glad to help (and I have), someone wants me and my taxes to do all the work for them, they can sit in the FEMA trailer til it rots around their lazy ass.

I live in Slidell and I think that people have dwelled on it and just show all this terrible footage of the days immediatly following the storm because folks in that particular area rode out the storm because they had no place to go or no car to get them there. I agree, though, come help us! We all need it, the gulf coast, st. bernard, slidell, the east and west. But I did think the vidoe was great and showed me alot of things that I hadn't seen before.

Wanna know why people didn't leave? People forget the fiasco of Hurricane Ivan in 2004. 15 hours it took to get from Algiers to Slidell (normally 30-45 min) for a storm that we literally got about 20 minutes of rain from. And we were told DIRECT hit. Some direct hit.<continued>

On a different note I didn't use AEnema because Flood is more about thinking you're on solid ground, only to find out that everything that is you can be washed away in a matter of minutes.
