Bands grow and change in line with their mentality and creativity. Continuing to write only what the fans want is the very definition of selling out. Anyone can be a Britney Spears & churn out the same old soulless crap year after year to sell records. True artists write what they feel represents them at the time.
Sorry but I'm fully on denega's side... there's a huge difference between growing and going for real music to pop bullshit. Frogstomp for me was a real slap in the face, my youth and now comes this... Very disappointed. It has no balls, it's not true and doesn't touch me. Too bad. Hope for them they sell more now...

I never would have known this was Silverchair if I hadn't seen this video - and while I've been a fan since I was 15 - since Tomorrow hit - I really like this. They're growing, evolving, unafraid to try something new, and it's good. Keep surprising me guys.
I loved Frogstomp, but the band is changing. Not only is it changing but it is getting better. Young Modern has been their best and most original album. It actually raised my opinion of the band considerably. Some people are just too attached to the past.

Silverchair's music has always been great. My personal favorite is Neon Ballroom and their new stuff is a little different but I appreciate the beauty in the songs.

As was said, this band have grown up and so has their music. it doesn't make it a bad thing but people don't seem to like change. For them it was a progression to the haters they sold out to modern music.. personally i love them and have done since the early 90's but everyone is entitled to their own opinion

Daniels voice worries me a lot, he used to be flawless live and you listen to other vocalists who've gone longer abusing their voices. theres never been that much of a change. Daniel has corrupted his voice through more than screaming and incessant touring, and its a shame because he had such a natural sounding voice, even in falsetto sections.

Man thats stupid, their not sellouts because their first 3 albums sold far more than diorama and young modern. On the US Billboard charts frogstomp reached number #9, freak show #12, and Neon Ballroom #50 while Diorama was #90 and Young Modern was #70. They were actually far more mainstream when they were playing heavier, darker music.
What a great development they made in the last years. I love their great stuff since Diorama. What a graet artist Daniel Johns is. I hope I will have the chance to see them live soon.

They all three created their sound and it's changed but that's what happens. Yes people grow up, they were 14 when they started. They wrote Dioarama at like 22 yrs old or something? That is genius! The Dissociatives for a side project for Daniel and Paul Mac and for Daniel and the band releasing some tension maybe but they are still Silverchair. Yes I miss the crazy insane ending of Faultline but this is a natural progression from Diorama.

He should change the band's name, the name is associated with the sound, they no longer play rock n 'roll... imagine if Van Halen was playing pop songs like Justin Timberlake and keeping the band's name "Van Halen", they'd lose my respect. That's what's happening to these guys, they are playing a Coldplay pop sleepy style with the name of a band that once was a powerfull rock machine.

don't get me wrong, i love old silverchair, (definitely more so than newer) but come on, this song is pretty incredible. yes, they have changed, and that's what this song is about. it was bound to happen. i mean, they've been together for 18 years, it was only natural. and i do believe much good came out of it. not to mention, it means daniel has gotten a chance to show his great falsetto! basically, if you don't like it, at least respect it.

30 years from now, i think bands and producers alike will struggle to find a gayer name (and content) for an album than 'Young Modern".. 'Frogstomp', 'Freakshow', 'Neon Ballroom' and even 'Diorama' were all awesome and i was a huge fan. Paul Mac came into the picture and turned Daniel Johns into a fag, Their certifications for each album proves this.. In conclusion, they should have quit while they were ahead..

As was said, this band have grown up and so has their music. it doesn't make it a bad thing but people don't seem to like change. For them it was a progression to the haters they sold out to modern music.. personally i love them and have done since the early 90's but everyone is entitled to their own opinion

Some can relate, some can't...He is not making music to become rich and famous. Daniels voice worries me a lot, he used to be flawless live and you listen to other vocalists who've gone longer abusing their voices. theres never been that much of a change. Daniel has corrupted his voice through more than screaming and incessant touring, and its a shame because he had such a natural sounding voice, even in falsetto sections.

I understand people grow up, that music changes..but this band seems to have put everything that inspired it in the first place under the rug, and forgot about it. Man thats stupid, their not sellouts because their first 3 albums sold far more than diorama and young modern. On the US Billboard charts frogstomp reached number #9, freak show #12, and Neon Ballroom #50 while Diorama was #90 and Young Modern was #70. They were actually far more mainstream when they were playing heavier, darker music.
