  • You're playing on Kindergarten?! Despicable lol.

  • Truly a great game. You seem to have the darkness really high (as in brightness low).

  • damn i miss this game. these were my PowerPC macintosh days ....iMac G3 FTL hahaha

  • Bungie should make a new marathon game with updated graphics and everything. I would totally buy that. :D

  • That would be cool, but people would ignorantly argue that it's "too similar" to Halo even though in reality this game was a precursor to Halo and inspired many of the game design elements of it.

  • Seriously...how can people possibly think that marathon and halo AREN'T related? If you walk near a jackal, the sound they make is VERY similar to the sounds that the enemies in marathon make when you get close to them...(can't think of a better example right now..sorry. xD)

  • @LVAzippy Bungie stupidly made it so that Marathon takes place after Halo. Although I can understand a security guard having old power armor, it says that the Pfhor are the first aliens that humans ever find. Bungie could have made a really cool connection, but they ruined it.

  • As far as I see it, the enhanced landscapes/textures/weapons/HUD and Shots Fired are a complete necessity for all OpenGL players. I mean, let's face it. The original graphics aren't that nice on today's monitors, which isn't surprising seeing that it was made 13-15 years ago. Marathon mappers, you have my full respect.

  • MARATHON. This is the kind of game that even after twelve years, I still want to play. ;)

  • marathon=halo trilogy

  • I think I might agree with you, man. When you play Halo and Marathon it's soooo obvious, even though Bungie says otherwise.

  • If you look up the Cortana letters on the internet, you will see that Bungie doesn't necessarily hold the stance that they are not of the same game history. ;)

  • "Alas, I'd have to say that, as of now, the only canonized parts of the letters are the fragments we pulled for use in the announcement trailer."

-Joe Staten in an old interview

So at least some parts may be cannon. And halopedia has got some really useful info on the letters.

  • yea cus they dont want people thinking marathon was the first [halo] they made and be liek bungie is crap and not buy the 360

  • Frogblast-

    Just download Marathon Durandal?

  • Where can I get this mp3? my god i've been looking everywhere....But nice vid.

    FBTVC!!!!7777777

  • This is kind of a strange question....but when I download this, is it a full-screen game? or does it open up in a window.

    thanks.

  • Be a real man and change that difficulty to total carnage.

  • master chief name is john

  • and dont forget, Marathon takes place a good 200 years after the events of Halo

  • Can you site this information anywhere official?

  • it says it in the games. i know for a fact halo takes place in 2552-2553, and marathon 2748 or something like that.

  • yeah, bungie might be making a new official Marathon game (for 360?) but their pretty much done with Halo for a long time

  • where does it say in game? ive played through a few times now and havnt found any solid proof. please prove it to me. PLEASE. I want to believe but as of now its just speculation.

  • Bullshit.

  • not bullshit.

  • YOU KNOW WHAT'S BULLSHIT?

    aribenzane.

  • agreed.

  • does anyone know where i can download this for free for windows xp??

  • source(DOT)bungie(DOT)org/get/

  • Does anyone know where you can download the marathon 2 theme?

  • yes, marathon has many connections to halo..it takes place AFTER halo :D

  • No. It doesn't. The games are completely separate.

  • uh lol

  • Cortana letters. Look. Them. Up.

  • ***** HALO 3 SPOILER *****

at the end of legendary. dont u see master chief floating towards the planet that marathon is based off of? so is the guy in marathon MC now?

  • no, in Marathon you're a cyborg, a MJOLNIR Mark IV Cyborg, not MC.

  • so technically hes a robot... my friend says that master chief is a robot i dunno why and wuts the "cyborg's" name? if he has 1...

  • i think his name's Vic... Yes, just Vic, i'm sorry if you were expecting something like Master General or General Electric or something. I've come to belive Vic might be like a SPARTAN-I or something, and earlier attempt of a super soldier, later followed by the SPARTAN-II project.

  • noo... master cheif is a genetically enhanced soldier in big armor. hes human

  • does marathon have connections to halo?

  • yea, a lot

  • examples? isnt it a sequel to halo 3 because there are

A: the cortana letters in this game

B: a spartan named john which is mc's name

  • yes, they do happen in the same timeline, but Marathon is not the direct sequel to Halo 3, tehre's still a blank space in the story.

P.S.: No, the planet at the end of legendary is not the Marathon planet... Marathon doesn't even take place on a damn planet!!!!!!!! It takes place on a ship called U.E.S.C. Marathon!!!

  • o i c thx for clearing that up

  • That's not entirely accurate. UESC Marathon is built from the Martian moon of Phobos.

  • yea you're right, but my point is... IT'S NOT THE FREAKIN' PLANET AT THE END OF HALO3. But yea people, listen to WWIIOLgeorgh, he's right too: The UESC Marathon IS a massive colony spacecraft built out of the martian moon Phobos.

  • Let me correct myself: It was Deimos that was transformed into the UESC Marathon, not Phobos.

  • whatever you say, all i remember is it was a martian moon, i'm not sure which one.

  • Im glad we got some marathon discussion goin on here ;3 I think a new vid may come soon... stupid schoolwork

  • The Marathon is in orbit around Tau Ceti IV, which is where Durandal takes place.

  • *Bzzt* Wrong. Level one, terminal one, it tells you that Durandal has taken you to Lh'owon. The entirety of this game takes place in that system.

  • The Marathon was destroyed at the end of M1, along with Tau Ceti.

  • although a marathon fan, what is the planet you fight on? (besides Lh'Owan?)

  • Mostly Lh'owon. Durandal transports you to his ship, Boomer, about halfway through the game, but after that, you're back on Lh'owon.

  • thanks. so the players name in marathon is vic i hear?

  • I think Vic is just the colloquial term. They never really show his name. He's just known as "Security Officer".

  • ah. another rumor i heard a while ago that Vic was for victory

  • i hate it how some FPS games never tell you your characters name. in DooM your the "Marine, in Marathon your some cyborg Security Guard with, of course, no name/alias, and in the first two F.E.A.R. games you're called "Point Man". it's just annoying. But what's more annoying is when they're silent protagonists. btw, how did that whole frog blast phrase originate?

  • "Frog Blast the Vent Core" was what Doug (the voice of BoB) came up with when they asked him to say something really strange.

  • frog blast the vent-core? I forget what that means

  • I'm stuck at the part after you get the three defense security chips. There's a room thats red on the map and if you walk into the room the floor moves up and crushes you and the door shuts after you five seconds after you get into the room, can anyone help me?

  • this is on Marathon not Marathon 2

  • Not the movie my question if that gets anyone angry I just explained it here sorry for triple posting but I forgot some things did't want anyone to flame me...

  • if memory serves there is a hidden door in the upper left corner of the room. if you read the terminal Leela gives you maps and you can see the hidden door in one of her pictures. god i loved this game so much

  • I literally grew up to this game. I started playing at one and a half, and by 2 and a half, I was a proficient killer. It just never grew old. I nearly cried when OS X wouldn't support Marathon 2 without Aleph One. That's why I have a switch hooked up to my powerful G5 and my old OS 9 G4 Mac. I play all the games I grew up with on that.

  • my first FPS was DooM then in 2004 i rly got into Marathon and Halo but nowadays I'm trying to play all th e prized classics, most new games today are phail

  • wut does phail mean?

  • gears of war and mass effect or good shooters

  • Been a long time since I heard the main theme music from the game, I've only played the demo.

  • the whole trilogy is up for download now just search marathon trilogy on google

  • I got stuck on the level with the 2 terminals that you had to destroy then escape the rising lava. I always did it wrong and got stuck. Any advice?

  • You have to punch the terminal furthest away from where you have to escape first, and then the other one. Alternatively, you can shoot a grenade at it so you don't have to run so far.

  • i hit both the terminals but the when i get up there i reach a dead end, i have no clue where to go. theres like this opening high up on the wall that an enemy come out of but i have no clue how to get up there.

  • Marathon ruled, and the theme is amazing. Back in those days I played this game, C&C, Myth and Civ2. Did anyone use to play Damage Incorporated?? Doom was overrated.

  • I played Civ 2, Myth, Marathon and DI. I still do, often!

I much preferred Marathon 1 to the other two, though. Maybe because I grew up playing Marathon 1 and I basically know it off by heart.

  • I feel so lucky to have grown up with this game. It amazes me how much Bungie still supports it after so many years.

  • Bungie does not support it. Everything new is player made since they released the source code.

  • @SSP Bungie is still very proud of it

  • SOOO much better than Doom and Quake and Duke Nukem. Dark Forces wasn't bad at all. But these games rocked so hard. I don't care that this genre of games has been done a thousand times over, these games are so awesome. Even being a huge Zelda fan, I'd still rather (re)play this game than bust out the new Zelda game, or any other RPG.

  • marathon's storyline is awesome, they should make a new version with deluxe graphics, I'd be the first one buying it

  • if you go to the site i put up, someone is working on replacing all the textures and weapons to update the graphics....

  • Faaaantastic stuff, I played it first in 95/96, couldn't have been much older than 10. Such an atmospheric game, scared me sh*tless at times. That music sounds a little corny now, but still brilliant! Does anyone know where I might find the Durandal/Infinity theme tunes? Besides tracking down a soundtrack CD?

  • aleph one includes it in the sound files... sourcedotbungiedotorg

    replace dot with . ;3

  • Ahhh, the memories. I think that in a way this was the best of the three. I don't give Infinity as much credit because it was essentially the same game, but with a new map file - which was mostly outsourced as far as I know. The unfolding (and awesome) story I think also reached it's peak in this one too. Too bad it didn't have Alex Seropian's sweet background music though.

  • Holy Crap! Marathon=Best Friggin Game Ever...

    (And before that, PiD)

Its just a little sad that nowadays any ten year old with a xbox and a copy of Halo can say that theyre a hardcore Bungie fan...

Whatever happened to the VidMasters and the Hardcore Fans?....

    Not Sid Was Here

  • I've been wanting to record Marathon footage since I first got it! What recording program did you use?

  • *points to fraps banner along top of screen* ;3

  • How many times have I started that game and heard the music and it STILL gives me chills. reveroF nohtaraM

  • Bungie makes all the greatest games, always quality

  • delfincleric8 XD

    YEAH THE SAME!!

    HALO ROCKS!!!

  • this was my first shooter game, now the shooter game what I play is halo, from the same factory of the game, bungie y esas manos

  • the first marathon had three enemies left out

  • sweet! I love doing it in Total carnage..

Not only has infinity been released as free, but the whole series has.

  • Ah, this brings back memories.

  • i have it set to kindergarden so it looks quicker, and more action pack =P i actually play on normal most of the time...

  • S'pht don't die that easily... You have it set to kindergarten!

  • Classic, you guys know that marathon 1,2, and infinity have been released as freeware, right?

  • i only played a trial version, but that was even better than halo!!!!

  • Absolutely amazing game. Thanks for the original music, i love it.

  • This game was my life at one point. F'in amazing.

  • same XD and still my favorite.

  • same =P

  • This game was the ever first FPS game that I played
