That would be cool, but people would ignorantly argue that it's "too similar" to Halo even though in reality this game was a precursor to Halo and inspired many of the game design elements of it.
Seriously...how can people possibly think that marathon and halo AREN'T related? If you walk near a jackal, the sound they make is VERY similar to the sounds that the enemies in marathon make when you get close to them...(can't think of a better example right now..sorry. xD)
@LVAzippy Bungie stupidly made it so that Marathon takes place after Halo. Although I can understand a security guard having old power armor, it says that the Pfhor are the first aliens that humans ever find. Bungie could have made a really cool connection, but they ruined it.
As far as I see it, the enhanced landscapes/textures/weapons/HUD and Shots Fired are a complete necessity for all OpenGL players. I mean, let's face it. The original graphics aren't that nice on today's monitors, which isn't surprising seeing that it was made 13-15 years ago. Marathon mappers, you have my full respect.
If you look up the Cortana letters on the internet, you will see that Bungie doesn't necessarily hold the stance that they are not of the same game history. ;)
where does it say in game? ive played through a few times now and havnt found any solid proof. please prove it to me. PLEASE. I want to believe but as of now its just speculation.
i think his name's Vic... Yes, just Vic, i'm sorry if you were expecting something like Master General or General Electric or something. I've come to belive Vic might be like a SPARTAN-I or something, and earlier attempt of a super soldier, later followed by the SPARTAN-II project.
yes, they do happen in the same timeline, but Marathon is not the direct sequel to Halo 3, tehre's still a blank space in the story.
P.S.: No, the planet at the end of legendary is not the Marathon planet... Marathon doesn't even take place on a damn planet!!!!!!!! It takes place on a ship called U.E.S.C. Marathon!!!
yea you're right, but my point is... IT'S NOT THE FREAKIN' PLANET AT THE END OF HALO3. But yea people, listen to WWIIOLgeorgh, he's right too: The UESC Marathon IS a massive colony spacecraft built out of the martian moon Phobos.
i hate it how some FPS games never tell you your characters name. in DooM your the "Marine, in Marathon your some cyborg Security Guard with, of course, no name/alias, and in the first two F.E.A.R. games you're called "Point Man". it's just annoying. But what's more annoying is when they're silent protagonists. btw, how did that whole frog blast phrase originate?

if memory serves there is a hidden door in the upper left corner of the room. if you read the terminal Leela gives you maps and you can see the hidden door in one of her pictures. god i loved this game so much
I literally grew up to this game. I started playing at one and a half, and by 2 and a half, I was a proficient killer. It just never grew old. I nearly cried when OS X wouldn't support Marathon 2 without Aleph One. That's why I have a switch hooked up to my powerful G5 and my old OS 9 G4 Mac. I play all the games I grew up with on that.
my first FPS was DooM then in 2004 i rly got into Marathon and Halo but nowadays I'm trying to play all th e prized classics, most new games today are phail
You have to punch the terminal furthest away from where you have to escape first, and then the other one. Alternatively, you can shoot a grenade at it so you don't have to run so far.
i hit both the terminals but the when i get up there i reach a dead end, i have no clue where to go. theres like this opening high up on the wall that an enemy come out of but i have no clue how to get up there.
Marathon ruled, and the theme is amazing. Back in those days I played this game, C&C, Myth and Civ2. Did anyone use to play Damage Incorporated?? Doom was overrated.
SOOO much better than Doom and Quake and Duke Nukem. Dark Forces wasn't bad at all. But these games rocked so hard. I don't care that this genre of games has been done a thousand times over, these games are so awesome. Even being a huge Zelda fan, I'd still rather (re)play this game than bust out the new Zelda game, or any other RPG.
Faaaantastic stuff, I played it first in 95/96, couldn't have been much older than 10. Such an atmospheric game, scared me sh*tless at times. That music sounds a little corny now, but still brilliant! Does anyone know where I might find the Durandal/Infinity theme tunes? Besides tracking down a soundtrack CD?
Ahhh, the memories. I think that in a way this was the best of the three. I don't give Infinity as much credit because it was essentially the same game, but with a new map file - which was mostly outsourced as far as I know. The unfolding (and awesome) story I think also reached it's peak in this one too. Too bad it didn't have Alex Seropian's sweet background music though.
You're playing on Kindergarten?! Despicable lol.

I think I might agree with you, man. When you play Halo and Marathon it's soooo obvious, even though Bungie says otherwise.

"Alas, I'd have to say that, as of now, the only canonized parts of the letters are the fragments we pulled for use in the announcement trailer."
-Joe Staten in an old interview
So at least some parts may be cannon. And halopedia has got some really useful info on the letters.

yea cus they dont want people thinking marathon was the first [halo] they made and be liek bungie is crap and not buy the 360

Swizzlestix091 4 years ago
no, in Marathon you're a cyborg, a MJOLNIR Mark IV Cyborg, not MC.

A: the cortana letters in this game
B: a spartan named john which is mc's name

That's not entirely accurate. UESC Marathon is built from the Martian moon of Phobos.

Let me correct myself: It was Deimos that was transformed into the UESC Marathon, not Phobos.

The Marathon is in orbit around Tau Ceti IV, which is where Durandal takes place.
voltairepatrick 4 years ago
*Bzzt* Wrong. Level one, terminal one, it tells you that Durandal has taken you to Lh'owon. The entirety of this game takes place in that system.
fresnel149 4 years ago
The Marathon was destroyed at the end of M1, along with Tau Ceti.
aribenzane 3 years ago
although a marathon fan, what is the planet you fight on? (besides Lh'Owan?)
MrT0y3 4 years ago
Mostly Lh'owon. Durandal transports you to his ship, Boomer, about halfway through the game, but after that, you're back on Lh'owon.
Mattbluhalofan 4 years ago
thanks. so the players name in marathon is vic i hear?

ah. another rumor i heard a while ago that Vic was for victory
