My two favourite American actors are (1) the late Rod Steiger and the (2) is Al Pacino.
It's a pity that Pik van Cleef turned out only to be a one hit wonder as he would have developed nicely with experience. But then he wasn't American - was he? :-)
I liked Al best in Serpico and the Scent of a Woman.
