  • @TheRimy22 take into consideration the amp makes up about 60 % of the tonal difference as long as you like the looks , feel and how it combines with your amp , BUY IT !!!!! its one of the best guitars you can find for the price espeicially if you get one second hand in good condition. oh yeah i have one and i can tell you its very versatile it can do anything.

  • can you play metal with a gibson sg ???

  • @TheRimy22 I don't know what you consider to be "Metal", but what i consider to be Metal was invented with an SG...think Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Judas Priest and back in the day at least (early to mid 70's), they were sporting SG's...some of them still are...if you like the looks and the feel and the sound, who care what anyone else thinks! And you can always change the pickups to change your sound a bit...although a stock SG sounds pretty rockin' to me!

  • @greengtrs metal is for me songs like from metallica or from mashinhead or megadeth ;)

i think changing picups is to expensive for me :D

but thanks for the anwser ... rock on =)

  • @TheRimy22 I'm not saying you have to change the pickups (which is cheap in the grand scheme of things), you don't and probably wouldn't even want to, it's just that you could...you have to be careful that you don't want what players are endorsing (because they are being paid millions of dollars sometimes)...Metallica started out playing Gibson's...not ESP's...I remember George Lynch (Dokken) almost losing his ESP endorsement (the biggest ESP endorser at the time) for using a PRS live. R.O.2! =)

  • You've got great talent man. A Gibson SG is the next guitar on my list, i'm trying to get one in Australia but can't find a decent one that sounds as good as yours, maybe its the amps...

  • @AdrianEVH96 Thanks! The amp definitely helps! Good luck with the search...

  • @greengtrs how heavy are SG's? i currently own a Les Paul model guitar, but they're very heavy, i was thinking of buying a SG but i don't know how heavy it is

  • @VoremGuitar SG's usually fall in the 6 to 7 pound area while Les Pauls usually range between 9 - 11 lbs...the newer weight relieved ones are probably more in the 8 lb range...i can't deal with the weight of most Les Paul's anymore...

  • Awesome jam ! man AWESOME

  • @Gubeguitar Thanks! Glad you like it...

  • Is it possible for me to tell what model I have or what year my sg is without knowing much about the guitar and where it came from? to me I can't tell the difference based on appearance...

  • You're great man! I like your style

  • @fakematteo Thanks so much!

  • Hi man, I own the same guitar as you, but to the question, whats's the song you're playing? You play amazingly good!

  • @EpicFilms11 I'm just jamming...I need to turn some of it into a song one of these days. Thanks for the compliment and for watching!

  • @greengtrs Nice man! Let me know when you got a song out of that cool jamming! ;)

  • i haven't seen a gibson sg through an Fender amp, but that sounds good. :)

  • What's the difference between this one and the gibson sg special faded?

  • Is Standard lighter than Special?

Does anybody here know the weight difference?

    Thanks.

  • @TheFILIPHENOM Not really...but no two guitars weigh the same (no two pieces of wood are exactly alike so there can be like a pound difference in either direction).

  • @TheFILIPHENOM I believe standards tend to, on average, weigh a bit more due to the additional finishing. However, as greengtrs says it all depends on the wood selected for each instrument, which is absolutely random. cheers

  • I've got an '08 and damn is it sexy. Wish it had P90s though

  • gotta few questions about this guitar.

    1. how tall are you and how much do you weigh? (just to get an idea of the size of the guitar)

    2. does it stay in tune good?

    3. on a scale of 1 to 10 where would you rate it?

  • just to let you know, your videos inspired me to get a p-90 guitar. i realize most of it is the amp but that growl from the gibson p-90s is awesome to me. the p-90s in this SG sound really close to the 62' you have too. at least through youtube.

  • @lookhowhighijump Thanks for letting me know...that's very cool! I love P-90's...they are probably my favorite sound...almost all of my favorite guitars have had them and I've used a PRS Deep Dish II Humbucker (which is made to sound similar) in a lot of guitars that didn't have them. My main PRS has the old Multi-Tap system with custom wound pickups to help me get that sound. And the amp is set almost the same on all my old videos...so any differences will be either the wood or the pickups...

  • @lookhowhighijump fyi, the pups in the specials (reissues, not the vintage specials) are humbuckers not P-90's.

  • i think SG's have the best tone/resonance of any solid body guitar out there, regardless of whether or not they have P-90s, humbuckers, or the old Melody Maker single coil (Alnico II) pickups. the clean tone is amazing, not to mention the overdrive. just my 2 cents.

  • @greenfish88 I think I'm inclined to agree with you...they all wind up sounding great...and the weight is nice and comfortable to play all night long...I'm just not crazy about the looks or the way they balance out...although I had one of the '98 Deluxe models with the Maestro Trem and the 3 mini-humbuckers that I really regret selling (I've got a demo of it here on YT). I wish I could keep them all!

  • i got the same guitar year 2006 for $500

  • @ greengtrs I have question, What's the playing feel's difference between a special and a standard? I'm not talking about sound or the pickups there.. but I mean the frets. Are the frets really high too on the special as they are on a standard? And does the special have more fret buzz?

  • Great Job You Rock!! Yeah i also need to know what gauge strings to use

  • @GreenDayDunn Hi and thanks! I use 009-011-016-026-036-046 usually known as a Custom Light set (the top half of a standard "9's" set & the bottom half of a standard "10's" set). My favorite cheap set is the D'Addario XL's (which is what I used here) and when I'm feeling rich or it is really important I use the Thomastik-Infeld's but I buy bulk as I'm a dealer and they don't offer a set with those gauges (you would have to buy 2 sets and make it yourself or $12 a set from me shipped in the U.S.).

  • @greengtrs k thanks:) But I called Guitar Center (which is where i got my guitar) And i asked the guy and he said it didn't matter what strings i used (I really don't think he knew what he was talking about) but i got D'Addario Regular Light Gauge. Do u think these will be good or should i just get custom light?

  • @GreenDayDunn Those will work fine...the low strings are the same...it's the high 3 strings on my set that are a bit lighter/thinner...you can always change and experiment later...and regular lights is probably what it came stock with. Have fun! Check out my string changing method video if you haven't already changed them yet...the tie method...it is quicker and helps keep them in tune better.

  • @greengtrs OK thanks alot for the advice:) Keep on rockin!

  • @GreenDayDunn Don't listen to guitar center employees. most of them dont know shit.

  • @Milkshakeguy yeah

  • @GreenDayDunn what guitar center?

  • you rock man...

  • @robisponja Thanks!

  • good

  • my first electric guitar was an SG. I loved the feel of the neck and the Heavy Sound from the pickups.. I think that the Scale length is perfect.

  • i own one of these and its amazing

  • oh, and im getting it in ebony , blacks my colour ;) hehe :)

  • when you bought this guitar , what gauge strings did it come with ? im just curious as ive been playing 10's on my les paul and im getting this guitar on saturday. i think i would play better on 9's as theyre easier to bend but it can vary sometimes. great video :)

  • @ACAlexHDC ...not sure what was on it when I got it...but I always use 9-46 gauge...the top 3 of a 9 set and the bottom 3 of a 10's set (9-11-16-26-36-46)...best of both worlds! And you can change the tension in how you adjust everything including how low or high you run the stop tail piece.

  • @ACAlexHDC .10 strings, i have the same guitar. it's amazing, i played the standard at a guitar shop and honestly from a long time guitarist's point of view, there was not much to differ in sound. i think the standard is mostly for a nicer look. it does have a harder rock sound though. for the money, idt its worth it.

  • great guitar, but if you put a duncan'59 in the neck pos. and a dimarzio norton in the bridge,a hell of a guitar!!

  • i have an epi g400,and it is great, but im getting a gibson sg soon.

  • The Epi G400 is a mid range guitar. And for the price its great. But the Gibson blows it away, completely; for tone and playability.

  • if i cannot have a gibson sg i will have an epiphone g400 which is the closest thing possible for a lower end guitar.

  • How's the neck is it fast?

I play my shit squier...had a go at my friend's epi SG and god damn, the guitar felt so light and i was flying thru the neck, t'was smooth as butter.

  • I have one of these, and it puts those epiphones to shame. The neck is amazingly fast, but still has some substance to it.

  • The gibson SG Special feels so awesome, now i know what u meant : D

  • Dude, I just ordered myself Gibson 2006 Special Ebony. I would want to know how does it feel to play it when i'm used to play Fender Strats, any idea? : )

  • You will love it if you can get past the initial shock. They are a shorter scale than a Strat so bending notes will be easier...but it's a huge difference in so many ways...it will take some getting used to. Don't try to compare them, just put your Strat away for a month or so so you can get used to it...it took me years to be able to pick up any guitar (that I wasn't used to) and be able to get comfortable quickly on it. Fender's and Gibson's are like opposites but I love both.

  • Real big thanks! I really like the way u explain things, from your own view. Great stuff! Keep going!

  • ehhh. some people think marshalls and boutiques are the only way to go. I on the other hand, would love to own this amp. How do you like the avatar cab? I need to get one.

  • I love them! Check out my latest video...I just posted it in honor of your question! Thanks for watching!

  • I've been drooling over Sg's for the past couple of weeks, I really want to pick up a special used for like 700 bucks, hopefully I can find something similar to this in a guitar store near by its exactly what I want. Sg's feel so much better than every other guitar to me, nothing can compare.

  • y no pearl

  • Nice work, just brought an 05 SG special exactly the same and I also have the Supersonic head and cab, awesome amp so versatile.

  • -.-" I hope u don't know what u'r saying.. the record sounds like this cause the camera is in line with the amp -.-" is not the fender amp the trouble :P

  • The real trouble is that this is one of my first 20 videos which were done on a cheap Nikon Coolpix camera set on video mode...that and the levels were too high for the little built in mic. I love this amp...I've sold, played on, and owned a lot of amps over the last 35 years...this is my favorite for getting lots of good sounds (clean, slightly over-driven, and totally distorted) all in one amp. It makes just about anything you plug into it sound great. Some will hate it though...I don't care.

  • another amp would be good

  • I have lots of amps...

  • I like it! Never thought a fender amp could sound so badass!

  • bro i got a special edition 2005 epiphone sg

  • get a marshall amp

  • Got one! It's a much coveted Studio 15 1x12 tube combo that is awesome. It was my main amp for years after having been through just about everything. I thought I would sell it when I got this (which I use 95% of the time) but haven't been able to bring myself to do so yet. I'll do a demo with that one soon...and my old Laney AOR-50.

  • sg+ur playing=fuck yeah!

  • Well thank you! I love guitars like these...all mahogany...simple...tone, tone, tone!

    Thanks for watching!

  • Awesome playing!! Care to tell me what kind of strings you use?

  • i got the same sg its good but not awesome

  • at 30 seconds, he looked like he wanted to use the whammy bar, lol but there wasnt one there, right after he did those natural harmonics

  • Hi...my name is Howard...and I'm a "bar" addict...

Only a few people have caught that...I was reaching for "a" bar...

    Thanks for watching!

  • man this is exactly my style of playing keep it up

  • Thanks!

  • nice gtr i own an 2x12 avatar just like your´s but loaded with celestion limited edition 70´s anniversary and it sound´s amazing just think hendrix, zeppand vintage sound´s im buyin´g and sg special faded this year for my gig.greeting´s amigo

  • That SG sounds like a Les Paul , meaty, smooth.

i have never lked the SG much, but I'm getting it.

  • i have to disagree, they really sound different. the sg is more like a smaller, angry guy ^^

  • Someone like an Angus Young ya reckon? Frank Zappa used to play an SG a lot-a lot. Depends on the amp settings too i would say-it's a subjective thing....

  • well of course, of course, but overall it really seems to me the sg has more mediums, i also think it makes it less polyvalent ... and i am playing a sg. both are still dream guitars anyway

  • hell yeah.

  • Comment removed

  • How much does that guitar cost??

  • Long gone...but I think you can get them for about $600 - $800 used and $1000 new. I sold mine for about $600 from memory in a no reserve auction on eBay (which is how I normally sell my guitars unless someone sees it here and gets in touch with me before I list it).

Subscribe to get a heads up on my new listings...

    Thanks for watching!

  • great playing!

  • Thanks!

  • i was just bored so i wrote random stuff and thanx for checking out my channel

  • gugran

  • Translation please...

Nice album artwork on your channel page by the way...I saw that tour (and the one before that for the "If you want Blood, You've got it" live album where they opened for UFO).

  • awsome guitar. got the same sg;P but mine was made in 2008

  • I have like exactly the same guitar like you, except it says Epiphone on the headstock. I bought it half a year ago for 300$ and it also has the dot inlay and the huge pickguard, but it had other tuners, I replaced them by gotohs..

the problem is, I really don't know the name of. it's definitely not an Epiphone SG special, neither a G400, neither a G310, or a faded, OR a worn cherry!

    help!

  • It might be a gothic...?

  • just look on the back of the headstock

  • thats a sick guitar and guitar player

  • Thanks!

  • evis on as igirt unt von gugran vicadf :)

  • How about a translation?

    Cheers mate!

  • start the video at 0:22 =D

  • What happens? I don't see anything.

  • lOl, theres a ghost that pops up from behind him really quick...lol..

Just kidding, I like the music he plays on that part its sexy..=D

  • That sounds really good man, you're making the thing scream! Nice one :)

  • this video should would be better in a better cam man

  • This video is really old...I've had a new Cam for about a year now...I think only about 20 or so of the earliest vids are with this camera (set on video mode). Thanks for watching anyways!

  • they dots on that fretboard are pure discusting. i would'nt pay the money for a gibson special when the gibson standard is 100 times better. you should just save ur money and buy 1

  • What do you think improves the sound of a guitar more...wood or mother of toilet seat (that's right, Standards don't have real shell inlay...)? And for what you pay out for better looks, you could buy another nice guitar...

  • wow. you must be reeeeealy picky to pay 400 more dollars for different markings on the fretboard.

  • thats the stupidest thing i've ever heard!!!!!! any REAL musician would know that the SOUND of the guitar is 1000000000000000 times more important than the fret inlays!!!!!!!! are you that dumb? besides he could get different inlays installed if he really gived half a shit as much as you do...obviously you know nothing about music this guitar is great the way it is

  • you SUCK, dude. get a life

  • If you say that about guitars then what do you know about playing one? You should know that looks have nothing to do with a guitar. I would play the worse looking guitar ever made as long as it played good and sounded great.

  • Do you think it is worth spending a little extra money to get this guitar or to get the epiphone g400. I know that this is better but is it worth a $350 difference?

  • Yeah. I would deffinetly say that it is worth an extra 350 bucks! Go Gibson mate!

  • gibson is worth it. trust me, i have an epi sg and gibson sg, and it is 100% worth the difference

  • Thanks for ur imput, i will deffinatly consider it., but i dont know if i can get enough money before i go out of my mind with my current guitar.

  • check out my vid of my 2 guitars. but trust me. u will spend money on an epi and be sorta happy, or wait a bit and be INCREDIBLY happy with a gibson. trust me. WAIT!

  • Epiphone is a no no lol from what i hear anyway.....Im sittin in the middle of epiphone and the SG Sig series...

    Me dont know :(

  • trust me go with the gibson

  • it really all depends what you really care for, the sound on a gibson one WILL be better and be better made, while the epiphone one will still sound great just not as good. If you really want the difference there is plenty on ebay that could get you it in great condition without the 350$ diffrence

  • I can't wait until I get mine, I love wine red SG's.

  • Me too and Sunburst Les Pauls

  • do you have problems with tuning?

also... are your tone and volume knobs stock?

  • This one was all stock...and I didn't have any tuning problems with it...part of that is how you restring your guitar (the "tie" method works best) and how you stretch out the strings and even how you tune it up...I'll try to do a video on that stuff one of these days...another tuning issue can be how sell the nut is cut...and if the string slots in the nut are lubed (with say graphite) and "broken in".

  • your a knob stock.

  • I'm sure that's the latest and coolest "English" put down..but would you mind translating that one please?

  • oh! i wasn't saying that about you or your playing. there was another comment saying something about a knob stock so it was in response to what the guy said. Nothing to do with you.

  • i have that guitar and i love it.... its perfect.... is not that expensive and is very cool...

  • Great playing, Great guitar, Great tone, impressive =]

  • wow nice playin man, that just standard tuneing? er what?

  • Thanks! Yes...standard tuning...about the most adventurous I get is to drop the low E to a D occasionally...anything else and I just get confused.

  • lol i have my guitar (originaly) tuned to drop D but I've messed with it a little bit, and it just sounds insane to me, Im gunna make me a vid playin either back in black solo, or the trooper :\ lol hard choice

  • I look forward to hearing it/them...I used to pkay both of those songs back in the day (pre-1985)...

  • lol thanks man, sweet I think everyone learns to play a part of back in black at sometime :)

  • wow :)

I can hear that this amp and guitar have much to give:)

  • hmmmm has a very country ring to it. i donno if my ears of fucked or what.

  • It could certainly fit into what is now Country...and I have a healthy respect for Country players...there are some amazing players in Nashville! I remember reading in an interview with Ritchie Blackmore (some 25-30 years ago) how impressed he was with a lot of those guys. I myself listened to anything that had guitar in it and a lot of stuff that didn't...if it had a groove and a hook....or emotion to it I listened.

  • what song do you play from 0:30 ?

pls write me a message :Dmust know it

  • That's just a piece of a song I'm working on...there are a few different ones in this video actually. I usually don't play anybody else's material here without saying so or telling my viewing audience to guess what it is...you could try to guess some of my influences, but there are many, many, many.

Thanks for watching (and the compliment)!

  • I just got that guitar and i was thinking of putting pickup covers on it. What do you guys think?

  • It's going to change the sound...not saying for better or worse...just that it will affect the sound and maybe the output a bit...which you could compensate for by adjusting the pickup height. It would probably look cool though. If you have a few extra bucks try it (you can always undo it) and report back here with any review or opinion...

    Thanks for watching!

  • is this sg special good for high gain, I mean is it good for metal?

  • Wasn't the first half of this demo high gain enough? As far as I'm concerned, a lot of what I played could go over a "metal" backround...I guess it depends on what you consider "metal"...I've played "it all my life and while some kids think the definition might change according to their new favorite band...the term covers several decades worth of music...

So yes...it's good for high gain metal...you just have to play the right stuff with feeling and on the right amp (set to "11").

  • not as good as u could get... the pickups aint high output which is normally what metal guitars need. To be honest its really down to ur amp u just need to knock the gain up a bit more. u might wanna take a look at the esp ltd 1000's. they cost a little more but are much better for metal.

  • haha

you wanna know my solution to my 'not quite high enough gain problem'?

    buy a nice pedal!

ha thats what distortion pedals are there for =)

just so you know some distortion pedals are really noisy when used wth other pedals, the amps distortion, etc.

a good example is my big muff pi

    great pedal

    really noisy

in this case you can buy a good SUPPRESOR pedal! (if you want to fork out the dough =/)

  • sweet the is cool

  • i just scrolled down and saw the other comment about the strap. hehe. thanks for the advice! beatti5, you're an idiot.

  • Thanks for the compliment and for watching!

I have grown to love SG's despite that problem...I love the lighter weight and the sound and resonance because of it.

beatti5 won't see the comment as he's no longer allowed to come over and play...if you can't play nice...

  • great playing btw. you've got soul, brother

  • hey i've heard that the special is a little top heavy

    is that true?

i've owned an sg before, an epiphone, but an sg nonetheless, and it was kinda top heavy so the neck would sink down if you werent holding it while standing.

it really annoyed me so i tried using a les paul. and its a great guitar, its just that i enjoyed the weight and the thinness of the sg.

so now im thinking of saving up and buying one of these but not if its gonna have that same top heavy thing going on.

  • fake!!

  • No...this is REAL...mistakes and all...and I'm not copying anything here...it's all just what comes to mind at any given moment! Maybe if you spent the energy you do on your own guitar as you do on your shoes...you could post a "real" video response.

  • oh man you're a loser

  • Go drool over your new Nike's...

  • Haha!!! I just got it! Nice!!! Nike's.... lol.

  • it only has neck dive issues if your strap is too smooth :p

I use a Levi's Cotton guitar strap, and those things won't let any guitar eat floor.

  • True...I have a bunch of straps and some won't let it fall...that's good advice for anyone listening/reading that owns a double cut Gibson (or other "headstock heavy" guitar)...rough backing on the strap helps...

  • what do you mean by rough backing? leather?

  • Anything that catches on your shoulder...I have one with a section of lambs wool padding and that sticks in place and I have a suede leather strap that is smooth on the side that shows and rough (natural) on the back...I'm afraid I don't know any better word to describe it. It's a Franklin (brand) strap I got at Guitar Center from memory. I hope that helps.

  • lol at 0:30 he looked as though he was reaching for a whammy bar that wasnt there. Awesome riffs bro!

  • haha, definitely, good spot :-)

  • That's funny...I was reaching for a non-existent bar there...as my main guitar since 1991 (the one on my YouTube channel page) has one and I am so used to using it.

    Good eye...

Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching!

  • dude you rock man... i have a question. does tht gtr have neck diving problems?

  • Thanks! No "problem"...I just can't let go of the neck at all, because if I do...the headstock gets real hungry and wants to "EAT FLOOR" really fast...lol It's worth all that though because the tone is sooooooo pure!

    Thanks for watching!

  • dude ive got the same guitar and it is a little neck heavy but its still sick. i dont notice it anymore

  • awesome guitar awesome playing! how much did this beast set you back?

  • Thanks! I believe I bought it for about $500 used and when I sold it I got $600...the moral of the story is buy used...unless a few dings bother you...I like mine a bit battle worn...especially old Gibson's!

  • cool, so i guess your in america?, im in uk and that would be about £250 right?, i think lol

  • same, I like the way the nitro clear coat slowly wears off leaving this nice smooth almost rubbed look. I ordered A Les Paul traditional and should be arriving within the wek, and I cant wait to grow old with it! =]

  • Ahhhhh the Purple one Lucky lucky lucky what a gorgeous sound

  • Must be the lighting or your computer screen...it's just the Heritage Cherry one. It was a really nice guitar though...

    Thanks for watching!

  • yep i have an epiphone great sound for a less quality guitar but im getting a gibson sg special faded very very soon

  • I'm just wondering, if you have all this great equipment, why can't you invest in a half decent webcam and microphone to record? cause the quality of the recording sucks :p

  • Because I spent all my money on all the nice stuff (ok...on my kids...). That was then anyways...I've been using a new camera since the very next video...basically for the last 3 months or last 18 videos...I can hardly listen to the old stuff because of the poor quality...but people seem to like them (the videos) and I like to see the improvements and progress I'm making...I'm all about trying to improve...helpful criticism welcome! Thanks for watching!

  • i have the same guitar... AMASING! i absolutly love it! also, nice work, great guitar

  • Thanks!

  • SG + Fender amp? now, you don't see that too often. sounds alright, though.
