there's almost always a box at the end of a dungeon to help you in a boss fight, so you should never have to face a boss as small mario. 6 hits of fire is equal to one jump on the head. Handy if you wanna pepper the boss from a safe distance but also takes longer.

ice is worthless on bosses other than to have 3 HP.

there are only some bosses in this game that are still difficult after you learn their pattern. not to say that i didn't make plenty of stupid mistakes and waste countless lives trying to defeat them.

You missed the 1- up near the third coin.

You forgot to get all the coins from the ring. There's a 1-up on the right side of the boss door and a fire flower on the other side of teh door

Exploring, also you can tell when there are secret passages ect. By certain details or notches. But my way of doing this is going through the level straight out and then running through it again but looking for secrets, star coins ect.

I just got Modern Warfare 2 but I'm far more excited for this game! One question, is it challenging at all on 1 player? Not that it really matters looks amazing at any rate. Is the classic control supported?

I'm not sure if other controllers are supported, I don't have a classic controller myself, only a Gamecube one. It's not that much more challenging on multiplayer as it is on Single, infact, single is probably harder.

That coin involves doing something with the pipe generating the blocking current and the spiked enemy above. I couldn't guess because those enemies are a pain in the butt so I would want them not be so much of a bother and water levels in general can be a pain.
