  • Hello is there anyway i can download this documentary ?

    thankyou for sharing

  • proud to be a member of Long Tan company at RMC in 2011.

  • The kiwis did what they were told.

  • @vochanvalley - you lost. pure and simple. but you won the war and a rice paddy to shit in. my father was a medic who went out into the rubber to look for wounded Aussies (and VC) after the battle. he said it took more than two days to clear the area and count the bodies. Our side doesn't lie to the public about casualties to our own forces

  • Oz2CDO - I have a picture of the long tan cross from 1993 (very unvisited then). I visited it on a moped, it had no plaque on it and was in in a state of disrepair. Half the village turned up to follow me around and rounded up an old guy who lived at the end of the plantation in a grass hut, who had the original plaque in safe keeping and brought it out. Great pictures of him, me and half the village, from kids to grands. Not sure if your interested in them - contact me rosswnelson@hotmail.com

  • I thought the correct name is Long Thanh, not Long Tan. This was a district belonged to Bien Hoa province, on the way go to Vung Tau.

  • Nice to see, for once, NZ and Oz fighting shoulder-to-shoulder.

Stunning film... very moving. Reminds you that there were more than just the bloody Americans losing their nation's youth in the '60's.

  • @1979777 We have always fought shoulder to shoulder with our Aussie mates.May hate them at cricket and rugby but when the shit hits the fan we will support each other with our lives.I served in the Nam when I was a young Kiwi. Now I am an old fart practicing in Canada I am so proud of our lads and the Anzacs in Afghanistan.

  • @1979777 Sorry but we did nothing at Long Tan, it was the Aussies who won the battle.

  • The Aussies and Kiwis were outnumbered and they still managed to kick those gook asses. 105 NZ Artillery cannons ran hot. Hats of to the Aussies and Kiwis who were there.

  • @Nopatienceanymore thanks kiwi arty. arty won the battle, along with the SLR and the M113s arriving at the bitter end. thanks....

  • @korearichie you are not looking at the bigger picture. Vietnam was just another post colonial area drama like so many other of the time. Australia had an active interest prevent the communist from moving south through Asia. you have to look at the that period of time to see our where our national interest was i.e. there were/are communist in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. there was a genuine fear that this ideology would then spread to Australia.

  • We DID Win this Battle...Richar Head!

  • For those antagonists (read "useful idiots") who dislike the essence of this story:

Perhaps you would enjoy your sick perspective in a Soviet gulag in Siberia; or perhaps among the victims of Mao Zedong's Cultural Revolution. Better yet, perhaps you are deluded that Ho Chi Minh was a nationalist, and not the communist who aspired to establish a communist dictatorship over the whole of Southeast Asia.

  • we go to war with USA to defend them so when the time comes they will come defend us for if we dont we may not be strong enough to defend ourselves and also the VC were killing innocent veitnamese women and children so do you call that admirable huh do ya

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, the battle of Long Tan made the Vietnamese respect the Australias, due to the sizable diffrence between the Australian troops and Vietnamese troops. The documentary focuses on the Australians, not the Americans and it also pays respect to the Vietnamese troops. I suggest you watch the documentary first before commenting. this is only a snapshot of it.

  • mate you need to be taken out and drowned in a bucket of piss

  • Does that include the 300,000 South Korean and Cambodian troops that fought along side the Army of the Republic of [South] Vietnam against the invaders of the North Vietnamese Army?

  • No. Don't expect any praise for the South Vietnamese troops or those from South Korea and Cambodia. This is a story of an Australian victory. They will not tell you that the US had to come in and save them. Question: Where were Australia's best friends? Nowehere. They were still in England. You will never see the English getting involved unless there is money to be made. They leave the dirty work to the US.

  • Thank you for this documentary. Its a great tribute to the men who were in Long Tan.

  • Go the wallabies!

  • yes, well tell that to the Aussie troops who buried the dead VC or what was left of them the next day.

  • great documentry i saw it at school

  • vochanvalley you are an idiot, what do you want us to say?? that we lost the war that Vietnam won? well we did! there, are you happy? the Vietnam was was a mistake like all wars and the least both sides can do is respect each other and i think that the Australians did a terrific job in long tan defeating 2000 VC and NVA with only 108 men, that is an incredible feet, yes the Vietnamese did win battles like this against allied forces so well done to them! so cant you just except that we beat you?

  • And for the record here are the people we interviewed for the documentary and our research and Vietnamese Government staff were in attendance:

Former Vice Commander D445 Battalion - Major General Nguyen Minh Ninh

Former Commander of Company 3, D445 Battalion - Colonel Phan Thanh Binh

Former Commander of Company 2, D445 Battalion - Colonel Nguyen Duc Thu

Chairman of Vung Tau Province Veterans Association - Phan Chien

  • The Fact Sheet outlines the VC and NVA units who fought the battle and their numbers. It is compied from captured VC and NVA documents and diaries, intelligence reports and interviews by the Australian Army Historian who visited Vietnam and interviewed Vietnamese Long Tan veterans with support from the Vietnamese government.

The official body count is 245 VC/NVA dead. This is how many VC/NVA bodies the Australians recovered from the battlefield over the 2 days after the battle.

  • You just keep reaching new depths of stupidity. It wasn't 'THE WORLD' fighting the Germans at Tobruk. See what that great German Erwin Rommel had to say about the Australians. Do a little research(real research, not the anti-american websites and TMNT comics you browse through now) and get a life (not a virtual one). I can't be fucked arguing with you anymore, its getting late down here in the good hemisphere of the world. Good day to you, sir, and all braindead liberals.

  • Losing? Goverment giving up. If you actually knew anything about the subjct of this video you'd know that Australia never lost a battle in Vietnam. Long Tan, 108 Australians, 2000+ VC and they still came out on top. I could mention all the times the mighty Germans had their arses kicked by the Australians (Tobruk, Hamel, Pozières etc etc) but I'd be here all night.

  • 'It's not the Germans fault, blame the sadistic dictator' If that line didn't work at Nuremburg it isn't going to work here. And have you exhausted your knowledge of Australia already? Kangoroos and British convicts? Its a sign of stupididty in Australia when someone trots out the old convict line. You're just embarassing yourself know.

  • Besides, if you hate Australians and the Vietnam War so much, why were you watching this video in the first place? Sounds like you were just trolling, trying to make yourself feel important, and trying to wash away the pain of being a hopeless loser with nothing better to do than watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles tell everyone how clever you are and how much you admire the Nazis. Fuck off, and please, give up the dope smoking. It damages brain cells

  • So Australians fighting in South Vietnam against South Vietnams enemies were murderers, but your beloved 'ordinary German troops' fighting in the European countries they invaded aren't (and don't forget the copious amounts of executions of the local Jews along the way). I hope you see the stupidity of your comments. Still, what's the point of arguing with eurotrash? Its like banging your head on a wall, but less fun. Like I said, no one cares about the deranged ramblings of an 'expert' like you.

  • Every nation makes mistakes in its history. The Vietnam war was a mistake for Australia and the US. Its too late to give a shit about the politics that sent the men to war, but when you call Australia Americas bitch it's like your pissing on the graves of the 508 Australians who died in Vietnam. If you don't agree with the politics of a 40 year old war, then good for you. The rest of the world doesn't care.

  • Yeah, Australia was never invaded. But thats what they believed at the time. And if believing an American political theory (that was actually proposed originally by Winston Churchill) makes Australia America's bitch, what does that make the rest of the world? Last time I checked Europe was the US' bitch. Australia was never a quivering mass of human sheilds begging for America's protection like NATO is. And what the fuck is...up with...all the...full stops?

  • How did Vietnam have nothing to do with Australia? In the 1960's the government believed in the domino theory. Hence, they believed Vietnam directly influenced Australia. Australia was fighting wars against communists for decades before getting involved in Vietnam. Look up a little thing called the Malayan Emergency. The Australian involvement in Vietnam had more to do with being scared of communists than being America's bitch. But I'm sure you knew that already, 'hehe'

  • Another pathetic piece of Eurotrash trolling videos so he can vent his anger over America. If you want 'sucking America's dick' go watch a video about NATO. Australia may have lost the Vietnam War. So what? So did your beloved Third Reich. And 'hehe' isn't a word.

  • explain how we lost the wars?

vietnam kill ratio 1 us 23 nva/ vc

  • explain to me how they were lost?

respect for what? starting a war for no fucking reason and the holocaust? the germans ended up getting fucked either way.

    go read some history books.

  • Yeah, a nation that lost both world wars you fucking neo nazi. so you could say the US

fucked the nazi war machine twice.

no one has lost in afghanistan, somalia or iraq.. you know fuck all.

  • haha well, we've made an impact in war.. not like you cunts who did fuck all when hitler raped your country.. holland.. pffft.

  • The Domino theory...

  • HA, why the hell were the yanks there?

  • Historical footnote.... In 1919 Ho Chi Minh went to America to ask Woodrow Wilson for aid/help against the colonist French. America afterall is the champion for self determination and democracy according to the constitution. But having a foothold and influence in Europe after WW1 it was seen as more important not to piss off France.... after all, who needs rice anyway. Vietnam could very well have been pro American.

  • I recently stayed with a family from Vietri (north of Ha Noi)and the man of the house was a machine gunner with the NVA. He welcomed us into his home, fed us like we were kings (even though he couldn't afford it) and heaped praise on the Australian soldier. A very humbling experience. Best country I've been to in 10 years.

  • and thank fuck for the aussies!! from a brit soldier

  • we've been in just about evry war along side of the americans and brits

  • lest we forget cheers

  • Giap got his ass shot off here My respects to all who fought for their countries RIP those who fell

  • God Bless Australian and American troops where ever they Fight......

    come home safe ......

  • dont forget the south korean forces ROK and the ARVN

  • EG iraq America have killed more brits then the ra heads

  • new zealanders were also involved the kiwi artillary thingy ma bob they played a big role to the aussie survivel

  • i'm aussie...yea new zealand artillery is among the best, i think i remember them doing the close quaters covering in korea for the aussies to?? I think aussies trust the kiwi's with there life as history shows, as for american artillery hmmm lol

  • And in battle we trust Aussie's with ours!

    ...Lest we forget

  • giap lam lom cho va congsan co may man qua voi nuoc nga va hai lua qua chet nua vo van, neu khong o khong biet

  • This is aussie infantry...

Aussie also involved in this conflicts

    YKWIS

  • Yes the US were defeated in Vietnam however, D Coy 6RAR won an outstanding battle against a very determined VC opposition. Hell on earth for all involved.

  • The Us defeat in VN is the most terrified humiliation in US history! It's always the horrific end for Foreigner invaders in VN land, the mogols (thee times in 13 century), the chinese (many times), the french in 1954 and us in 1975, china again in 1979!.. It's not surprising!Viva VC and gen Vo Nguyen Giap - the winner- greatest gen in all times!

  • you are just right about it, it's the vietnamese spirit. Never kneel down before any anemy :D. Viva VN, Viva VO Nguyen Giap.

  • Giap veiw point might be defferent than this,

  • shutup.

  • The greatest General of all time was Omar Bradley and he was a 5 star (special) American General! Giap is NOTHING.

Giap only won because we pulled out and the Americans. We didn't surrender, we pulled out. That's why we lost.

  • Agreed, But do you agree that Omar was the best INFANTRY General? I mean, for the most part, Generals specialize in different areas, right?

  • Too true...

  • I would have said that the best General ever was Sir John Monash. I mean he kicked some serious German arse in WW1. And he was Australian. Or Rommel. Or Alexander the Great. Hell, they're all good
