wow i played most of the games on this list all the time back then, but one i did forget about... STUNTS!!! thank you for the reminder whoever posted this video, i used to build tracks endlessly on my dads 1st laptop (thing was a tank!) on the most eye straining and damaging screen, and loved every second of it. that track editor had me hooked on level editors ever since.
Glorious list. There are only a handful of games that could compete with these, such as Lode runner, Digger, Tetris, Alone in the dark, X-com or TIE fighter. I'm not personally fond of platformers in general, although Commander Keen and Duke Nukem probably belong on the list, and Prince of Persia definitely does.
I don't think Commander King or Jazz Rabbit defined anything. Other than how shareware titles could copy the consoles. The other titles are pretty okay though..
@200scv The tune is a Hymn, Oh Little Town of Behtlehem with a sample of the movie theme from The Good the Bad and the Ugly. It was (I think?) used in the original Lemmings game.
I havent heard of half of these games, I wouldnt say a lot of these "defined" DOS gaming. Sierra dominated DOS, a good portion of the list should be Sierra games, like Police Quest and Space Quest, I didnt know a single person who played DOS games and didnt have Police Quest. Then there was a little game called Warcraft.
The best part of DOS gaming for me as a kid was the Sierra games. Kings Quest, Hero's Quest (before they had to rename it Quest for Glory), Codename Iceman. Stuff like that. I've found out that trying to go back to those games I just don't have the patience for them anymore XD. "Ask about Baba Yaga" Oh Spielburg how I miss thee. TT-TT
20 games are not enough to define a wonderfull age of criativity and design such as the DOS Gaming. Titles as Indy 500, Test Drive I, Bard's Tale and countless others franchises all have their part in creating such great memories that is worth to carry to eternity. Thanks for posting this video.
@dkyx that may be true, but the first Elder Scrolls brought a whole new generation into the rpg world with Skyrim being one of the most anticipated games of 2011
nice list. I'm sure I could nitpick, but it's a fairly representative list. Just a pinch heavy on adventure games, but that's to be expected for the era.
nice list. I'm sure I could nitpick, but it's a fairly representative list. Just a pinch heavy on adventure games, but that's to be expected for the era.
Man do I miss PC gaming days! The days where game developers were always 1 generation ahead console games thanks to better and faster software. Not like today where there's no such thing as exclusive PC games anymore. Developers will not release games on PC just because they wanna avoid piracy and release crappier graphic games for consoles instead.
YES! God, this takes me back! Monkey Island, Wolfenstein 3-D, Leisure Suit Larry, SYNDICATE!!!....
Ohh, I wish I could play these games again. I don't care how dated the graphics and sound are. If we can play ROMS and console-downloads of old NES and Sega Master System games, why not the old PC games?
@organs I may be late, but find DosBox. It's an open source DOS emulator, which also emulate graphic card and sound card. It also include a slowing down feature for games that run too fast on modern system.
I never found any MS DOS game that doesn't work on Dos-Box, though there is never 100% compatibility.
Also there is plenty of abandonware games, and also games like Battle Chess, Bio Menace, or Duke Dukem 3D that are now downloadable legally for free on the editor's websites!
simon the sorcerer 1 and 2 duke nukem 1 and 2 pharoahs tomb crystal caves electroman gobliiins god of thunder picklewars rodents revenge - windows but still a crazy game scorched earth spitwad willy and zool
aldo amazon snake biomenace all 3 apparently, didnt know there was 2 more alley cat captain comic dangerous dave c dogs elf 1 jazz jack rabbit skunny kart skyroads Legend of kyrandia all 3 - wicked leisure suit larry 1-6 monkey island 1 and 2 police quest 1-3
awesome, but you forgot... arctic adventure biomenace discworld full throttle hocus pocus indy jones FOA and TLC jetpack all jill of the jungle keen all lemmings loom microman - any1 play this, awesome game sierra mini golf - hit things and get reactions from the maps ftw one must fall both prince of persia 1 and 2 dr riptide secret agent sam and max hit the road simon the sorcerer teen agent - great point and click adventure game the black cauldron yobi's basic spelling aladin
I spent hours on Kings Quest 1, 2 and 3. Space Quest 3, Leisure Suit Larry, Prince of Persia, Commander Keen, Wing Commander 3, Wasn't fortunate to play Monkey Island properly. Lemmings is always going to be great. Wolfenstein I play abit, preferred Doom. Syndicate was cool but I found it to hard. Jazz Jackrabbit was fun too.
