Buck really has great control of that guitar. It's amazing how he can add all of this embellishment to the original tune. His apprentice did well too.
@zachwithacape If you like to travel , boc will be in walker mn, 6.4.11. that is somewhat close for myself to go and check out , though Ive seen boc all over the nation , its my belief boc will tour until the very bitter end, go see their website!!
im 19 and i recently got into BOC and saw them live in September of 2010 i hope i get to see them a few more times before they separate or retire cause bucks in his 60's but anyway these guys are a truly great and very underrated band there is more to them than burning for you and dont fear the reaper.
Watch Buck's face while he is playing one of his infamous guitar solos. This man LOVES what he does. The fact that BOC is NOT in the R&R HOF is nothing short of criminal.
no, I am not joking. I don't care how the cat plays.......BOC doesn't need to add another lead player to this lineup. It's like saying Van Halen or Led Zepplin needs another guitarist......Buck and Eric have a classic sound and when someone comes in and "modernizes" it, it'll never have that original vibe.
Buck Dharma injured his arm and for a while, it was uncertain as to whether or not he would ever be back. According to a report I read back in the Summer, he still has some dexterity issues.
Love BOC. I think by the time this album came out they had become more of a fan based band, not pop top 40 radio band, and at the time classic bands weren't getting airplay on stations that would constitute radio "hits". It is a shame that current radio only features the top 10 popular songs chosen by over-texting next generation kiddies that don't know how good BOC really is......blah, blah, I will shut up now.......

Doing my best to not let this live version ruin my decades of previous enjoyment of this song... Richie Castellana, please go away. If you must stay, then catch a haircut, snag a shave, and skip a meal. Your manboob jiggle at 6:09 sickened me. Next, Mr. Unknown Drummer, I thought you were a drum machine (yes, that boring) until you unexpectedly, and without reason, sped up the tempo at 7:15. Were you as bored as the rest of us, hypnotized by the ratty-sounding snare? Buck & Eric, thanks forever.
Thanks chucksaden ! Better than the record version Hm, might be if the "funky" bass was slightly up. It was a pretty inventive track for the guys back in the days. Though I never could quite figure exactly what it's about (English is not my first language anyway, but nonetheless :)
This is a love song, as only Blue Oyster Cult could write one. The cryptic lyrics are about a man who has tried 3 times to break off a relationship, only to come back to his lover each time. The song ends with the man vowing that "the fourth time around is the last time around," leaving the listener to draw his or her own conclusion as to whether it will turn out any differently.
pdbail you should have left your comment ! It feels more like a Buck Dharma love song - all in melancholy and feeling. I admire good lyricists as well and BOC had great words most of the time (well... Not the B. Harrigan stuff maybe !:))))))))
You know, I always loved this song, but my respect for Buck Dharma just went up about 10 notches as a guitarist. I mean, I always liked his work and thought he was an underdog like Ronnie Montrose, but I found his playing on the outro solo quite tasty. Too bad Rock Radio after 1984 TOTALLY forgot this song and all you hear across the nation is Godzilla and Don't Fear the Reaper. Both great songs, but their catalog is so deep it's a shame that only the fans seem to remember this great track.
Unbelievable! I just saw them at The Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA on September 27th with Rudy Sarzo on bass. They rocked my ass off!!! It sounded so incredible.
This the second or third video I've seen with Rudy Sarzo, where's Allen Lanier ? I saw them in April 2006, with Lanier, and the second guitarist in this video was playing bass. They still sound good, but nobody in the band can play the keys like Allen. I hope all is well with him.
Listening to this song, I realize how this planet is need of more great music like the type BOC puts out. May these gents rock into the catacombs of eternity!!
WOW beautiful version! They're playing it really good! They sound great! I'm surprised to see Sarzo...equally surprised how good he's playing it...I know he's great but that's way more sophisticated than a Whitesnake bass line.
Guy in the middle is a tour bassist, i can't remember his name but he's played on tours with White Snake and Ozzy as well. He was awesome, in Winnipeg he played the bass intro to Crazy Train in a break during Godzilla
Guitarist is Richie Castellana. He was a bassist, but moved to guitar when Alan Lanier left. I think his solo in this tune is great. ON bass is the great Rudy Sarzo.
Start the video again. Eric's the one who introduces the song. The video pans to Eric playing keys. I had an unstable tripod, so you didn't get a lot of pan.
I actually saw an early version of BOC as The Stalk Forrest Group at a high school dance in the early 70's for like $2.00!! Wish I had grabbed the promo poster I remember seeing now!
I just saw them recently and the song of the night WAS SHOOTING SHARK. I've been a lifelong fan of BOC and have seen them around 10 times. But yes, the live version kicked ass.
Great stuff from the one of most underated guitarists and bands in my opinion. Excellent song, very underated even in their own catalog and one of my personal favorites Thanks.
The last time I saw BOC Bobby Rondinelli (formerly of Rainbow) and Danny Miranda were in the "hired gun" slots. This is the first time I've heard Castellano and Radino play. These guys are great! And they really fit with the band! Thanks for posting these clips.

ksmit, You are joking, right?! If you've never seen Richie Castlano play then you better. Between Buck and Richie, there's no better combo.
CTDFTR 2 years ago
Need a replacement for Allen, someone who can do keys and guitar .. and .. you pick up someone as good as Richie, why not take advantage of him?
Eric still plays guitar too .. he just alternates with Richie now as they take turns being exiled to the keyboards. And it's GOOD.
